The Arts & Music Scene Music & Theatre Experience engaging local performances and touring troupes this spring at venues large and small. The spring performance selection of the Blackfriars Playhouse at the renowned American Shakespeare Center in Staunton — the world’s only replica of Shakespeare’s original indoor theater — includes “Romeo and Juliet” and “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” In nearby Barboursville, Four County Players, a talented community theater, brings us the classic musical “Chicago” until March 31.

Also this spring, The Paramount Theater welcomes a variety of musical acts, including “National Theatre Live in HD: Saint Joan” and Eric Owens in April. The Live Arts Theater presents many unique shows, like “The Realistic Joneses” in April and May. If Carrie Underwood wasn’t enough, country fans will also be excited to see Florida Georgia Line at the John Paul Jones Arena. Additionally, Stevie Nicks will be performing in March and Def Leppard will be perfoming in May. You can even see Riverdance at the John Paul Jones Arena in April. Another large venue in Charlottesville, The Sprint Pavilion, will host must-see performers, including Ween on April 20. For a smaller music venue, visit The Jefferson Theater or The Southern Music Hall & Cafe. In April, you can see Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt at The Southern and Parachute at The Jefferson. The Ash Lawn Opera and Victory Hall Opera also present amazing musical performances this season. In March, see Victory Hall Opera’s Sprint Wireless Pavilion “Schumann Ghost House,” and Ash Lawn Opera’s “Middle March in Spring” at The Paramount Theater. The classical music lover can find plenty of performances in Charlottesville as well. The Charlottesville Municipal Band celebrates its 95th season this year and will host a Dogwood Festival Spring Concert and Performance in April. In addition, the Charlottesville Symphony will continue its Masterworks Series with “Cheung Chau” in March at Old Cabell Hall on the University of Virginia’s campus.
