1. INTRODUCTION 1.1.

Essay Scope and Purpose

The main goal of this essay is to create a business model which primary target is to provide plagiarism prevention services, class management tools, and paperless digital grading products to education institutions around Croatia and the neighboring countries that share the similar language (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. This essay will demonstrate the new concept where the universities and high schools buy licenses to submit essays to the website, which checks the documents for unoriginal content. 1.2. Data Sources and Collection Methods The data sources for this particular assignment will mostly be exerted from the Internet since similar practices are already present and used by several universities and high schools over the world, mostly in English speaking countries. Therefore using their practices and methods in order to improve the education system in Croatia should be recognized by great interest from other universities. 1.3. Essay Content and Structure The essay will demonstrate how the universities will by using this method take a more proactive approach in supporting faculty and students so that the academic work and content is original. This resource will allow both students and instructors to check whether the written work is of the highest integrity when it comes to the originality of text. 1.4. E-business Model – Short Description The Universities and business schools in Croatia and neighboring countries should see predaja.hr as a support tool that is going to assist students as they learn about proper citation and giving credit to others while the student crafts their own thoughts into written form. By checking the originality of text, students

3

and instructors can work together to improve the student's work and limit the dangers of plagiarism. Also the professors will be given the opportunity to easier gather the assigned assessments from students. Students will have to upload and submit their papers online by a certain deadline. This means that the student does not have to see the professor personally to turn in his or her paper, which is of great advantage since there are classes that have up to 100 students and more. As already explained before this will be a license that the universities will have to purchase in order to use the service. The service will then check the similarity and in addition to student papers, the database contains a copy of the publicly accessible Internet sites. It also contains commercial pages from books, newspapers, and journals.

2. STRATEGIC BACKGROUND 2.1. Mission To enhance, promote and sustain the quality of university’s educational programs to the highest standards at the national, regional and international levels through effective policies and tools the method is providing. 2.2. Vision To embrace the (predaja.hr) concept and assimilate it as part of the curriculum. So, that all universities in Croatia and neighboring countries use it. 2.3. Project Goals The project goal is to gain recognition by professors within one year so that they are willing to adopt the model as part of their long-term teaching process. To arise student’s awareness on how to treat intellectual rights so that the students become more self- reliable and open minded. This would stop or decrease plagiarism among students and signal the professor that the student has really done the project on its own. And also to become credible so that professors can 4

heavily rely on the program and embrace it. Therefore within 3 years we are looking into making it mandatory for students to turn it their work through predaja.hr as a common part of their curriculum.

3. Business Model 3.1. E-business Model – Detailed Description Both in the educational and professional life people care about results and measure other individuals accordingly. Therefore ethics play a big role in achieving the desired results. We all know there are lazy and hard working students who do not want to or cannot devote enough time for a certain assignment and disregard their potential. Plagiarism is seen in both cases nowadays. By students who want to get by easy and those who want to excel in their academic work. The concern is also double sided because the plagiarism is becoming easier because of the presence of Internet, and since the amount of data is expanding it is also getting harder for the professors to detect academic dishonesties. Not to mention that academic exporting has become very common and popular among students, and for instance students who study in Zagreb can send their peers their papers that study on a different university in Croatia. Thereby the student just needs to change the name on the assignment and turn it in, and the probability of the professor not finding out is very big. However this model (prodaja.hr) would be a profit company and its business plan relies on charging universities and schools an average of 4kn per student per year. Thereby there is nothing illegal about fighting plagiarism; indeed it is of societies interest. The process and how it works is that once a school or university subscribes for predaja.hr service, the next step is for students to submit their work for grading. This is much more efficient than to bring the essays to class, leaving the professors with huge piles of papers. Once the student uploads and submits the paper, the predaja.hr will analyze it before forwarding it to the professor and 5

provide an originality report on the paper. The aim of the report is to show the professor which portions out of the paper have been taken from the predaja.hr database. The instructor will also be able to see the original content that they believe the student has plagiarized, and can request the copy of original paper without the original student knowing about it. The instructor has the chance at the end to compare the papers and thereby bring its own decision and not just something that is suggested by the computer. 3.2. E-business Model Values The main value of this e-business model is to contribute to education improvement and diminishing the trend of plagiarism. Also it is very convenient for the professors meaning they will have more time to put in doing more productive things with students instead of policing them and checking whether their work is authentic. 3.2.1 Uniqueness When it comes to e-business uniqueness, nothing similar to this project exists in Croatia and the neighboring countries. Throughout the World many universities try to educate students on protecting intellectual rights. This e-business model will work great because it will be convenient for professors to collect the assignments from students and also to check the originality content of the work. More of the content would be turned into the digital form and thereby it would be easier for the professors to keep track of them. That would minimize errors and potential of assignment losses would be minimum. 3.2.2. Advisory Board This is a long-term mission and in order to make it successful it is necessary to employ and bring in the best people with high integrity for academic honesty and people who have experience in teaching. Also part of the advisory board should be universities that are already successfully using this platform. •

3.3. Project Organization This project is organized in a way that the students will turn in or submit their papers by uploading essays to predaja.hr. The hierarchy will be imposed since there always was one in the education system where the student reports to the professor. The professor is the one who will judge the content of work based on the information provided by the program and its own input. Founder Ivan Knezovic (CEO), 1 sales manager, 1 product manager, 1 platform manager and 3 persons in the operational support (data warehousing and management, application developer, informatics) will manage the organization within the company predaja.hr

4. INNOVATIONS 4.1. Innovation List -Online plagiarism screener -Educational improvements and better knowledge on intellectual rights -Online tools for paper submission with deadlines -Submission process available 24/7 -Using smartphones (IOS or Android) to submit papers 4.2. Project Innovations – Detailed Description 4.2.1. Online plagiarism screener The whole purpose of this e-business model is to fight plagiarism and introduce the platform to all universities to prevent academic dishonesty. The plagiarism

7

screener will check the papers and send an originality report to the professor.

4.2.2. Educational improvements and better knowledge on intellectual rights In a long term the platform (predaja.hr) should diminish the students will to cheat and force him or her to put in more effort and time in a certain assignment. Also the students will gain a higher moral value and ethics by respecting intellectual rights and give credit to people who deserve it. 4.2.3. Online tools for paper submission with deadlines The predaja.hr platform will not just be a plagiarism screener but also a type of a cloud system where the professor can post class notes and collect papers in a manner where the students have to meet certain deadlines. For instance if they are late with the submission they will not be able to turn it in anymore or there will be point deduction from the assignment. 4.2.4. Submission process available 24/7 Students will be able to turn it their work right before the deadline. For instance if the deadline is until midnight, they can turn it their work a minute before. Otherwise they used to turn in their work when the scheduled class meets during the day. 4.2.5. Using smartphones (IOS or Android) to submit papers Nowadays we live in a world of smartphones, and people constantly used them everywhere they are, therefore this app will also allow students to turn in their work by using smartphones. In that way they can always check professors comments and feedback as well and see their grades.

5. REVENUE MODELS 5.1. Revenue Model List 8

-License purchase from predaja.hr -Premium account for students 5.2. Revenue Models – Detailed Description 5.2.1. License purchase from predaja.hr Universities and high schools buy licenses to submit essays to the predaja.hr website, which checks the documents for unoriginal content. Business plan relies on charging universities and schools an average of 4kn per student per semester. 5.2.2. Premium account for students The way this would work is that student would pay a premium price, for instance 100kn per academic year, and they gain access to the database of assignments. Thereby they can see the assignments from their peers and colleagues who previously attended the university. Thereby they can gather ideas for their own work instead of spending a lot of time on research.

6. CLIENTS 6.1. Main Clients Main clients are going to be universities and high schools that will charge their students through tuitions in order to buy the license from predaja.hr. 6.2. Main Clients – Detailed Description 6.2.1. Client 1 Our main clients are universities who will be purchasing the license in order to use the platform predaja.hr. As already stated above the initial price would be 4kn per student per semester.

9

6.2.2. Client 2 This would be a premium feature where students pay certain fee in order to access the platforms database to look for similar papers they can draw conclusions and take ideas for their papers. 6.3. Markets and Website Language Even though the platform will be used for screening papers written in Croatian language the platform will be in English and Croatian language. We also need to keep in mind that there are Erasmus students coming from all over the World and the platform needs to be adopted for them as well. 6.4. Client Registration The client would have to register online for the service, or in case with the mobile application the person would have to download it first to their smartphone and then register and sign in for usage. 6.5. Registered Client Benefits The client’s benefits would be that the student could access its own papers and at anytime anywhere and start working on them, without having to carry a flash drive.

7. PARTNERS 7.1. Main Suppliers and Associates Since this is an e-business platform that targets students only it is of high interest for the predaja.hr service to partner up with the universities and high schools and to have close ties because they are mutually helping and benefiting from each other. The universities and high schools are gaining on it through educational improvements. Therefore it would be of high interest to gain recognition from the 10

professors association. 7.2. Supplier Description 7.2.1. Supplier 1 Our first and probably main supplier would be a company creating banners and billboards that we plan to post around universities hallways so students can see what predaja.hr stands for and what the benefits are. 7.2.2. Supplier 2 The company Infobip would be the other supplier since they have expertise in with the cloud technology, and they would be supplying us with the cloud base necessary for our data collection. 7.3. Associate Description 7.3.1. Associate 1 Universities would be the best associates since we are trying to sell our service through them and in that way they have the role of an intermediary supplier. 7.3.2. Associate 2 The professors are in this case taking the role as service promoter and marketer. Professors are the ones who will teach the students how to use the platform and assign the syllabus through the use of predaja.hr.

8. COMPETITION 8.1. Main Competitors -turnitin.com -grammarly.com -university database screener 8.1.1. Turnitin.com Check students' work for potential plagiarism by comparing it against the world's 11

largest comparison database. Provides smarter grading because it gives students legible, timely feedback while saving instructors grading time. 8.1.2. Gramarly.com Grammarly provides another set of eyes to help perfect your writing. Grammarly’s patent-pending grammar checking technology reviews and improves your text, correcting grammar, spelling, word choice and style mistakes with unmatched accuracy. Give Grammarly 60 seconds and see what pesky grammar errors you missed in your text! 8.1.3. University database screener This is the old school way of relying on the already existing technology that universities already using in order to fight plagiarism and it do not offer any other tools as the other two above.

9. WEB HOSTING AND DOMAIN 9.1. Project Web Hosting In order to finance the entire e-business project I would need to gather funds from various investors or ask for a loan on my own. The money is mainly directed towards the large database the program needs to have and to pay the programmers to maintain the program. Therefore in one way this could be used as a cloud system for teaching purposes where professors could post their class notes and students could directly access them and upload their own files as well.

9.2. Project Web Domains 12

www.predaja.hr is an available domain that will be perfect for the use in this business project. I have checked for the domain through www.posluh.hr, and it was available (as you can see on the image above). The reason I chose this name is because it is catchy and students will immediately associate with it, since it means in Croatian turn it in or submit it. Thereby every student will be able to participate in the system.

13

10. CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM 10.1. Possible CMS for Project 10.1.1. Angel Colleges and universities worldwide choose the ANGEL LMS to deliver powerful online teaching and learning experiences. ANGEL provides the comprehensive LMS features institutions need in a simple interface that promotes adoption. A recognized innovator, you can count on ANGEL to deliver on the promise of technology to improve education: Get Perspective – into learner performance and behavior, Take Action – automatically with ANGEL Agents, See Results – with industry-leading assessment and learning outcomes management. 10.1.2. Moodle Moodle is a learning platform designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalized learning environments. Powering tens of thousands of learning environments globally, Moodle is trusted by institutions and organizations large and small, including Shell, London School of Economics, State University of New York, Microsoft and the Open University. Moodle’s worldwide numbers of more than 65 million users across both academic and enterprise level usage makes it the world’s most widely used learning platform. 10.2. Best CMS for Project – Description There are various content management system providers suitable for this particular type of e-business. But in my opinion Moodle would be the best learning management system since they support all the tools in order to ensure a fast and seamless experience for administrators, instructors and students. It is a great CMS provider for learning because it incorporates originality check,

14

feedback and grading, grammar checking, instructor access and student access. Moodle is a PHP based platform.

11. Marketing Plan 11.1. Project Marketing Plan Marketing for predaja.hr will not be done in ways of commercial purposes in order to increase the amount of customers and etc. Because the plan is to sell licenses to Universities that will then spread and share the idea and concept among students. Therefore the word to mouth model would be the most essential contributor in raising student’s knowledge about the e-business model. Social media are a powerful tool among students and it is easy to reach them through facebook, linkedin, twitter and etc. Therefore the predaja.hr will have its facebook site, linkedin account and of course Google AdWords are also part of the marketing plan. 11.2. Project Key Words Predaja.hr keywords would be: predaja, online predaja, plagiarism checker, plagijati, provjera izvornosti. 11.3. Social Networks Advertising The social networks advertising would be given to a professional company that possesses expertise in advertisements through social networks. For instance Infobip company would be a good choice since it is a local company and they know what the local customers are looking for. And in that way Infobip would take the advantage of the given situation. Plus they also have expertise in cloud systems that our e-business model will require. 11.4. Marketing Plan Table 1.10.2014 – start a marketing campaign at the beginning of October by incorporating the predaja.hr platform as part of the efzg.hr official page. Because 15

a lot of new students who are applying for universities will go to the universities home page and they will notice predaja.hr through pop up ads. 1.11.2014 – start doing hefty facebook ads so that students become aware of the seriousness of the concept the universities are trying to implement. 5.11.2014 – start posting big banners on hallway walls so that students see what it is whenever they are passing by or waiting in lines at administration office (referada).

12. MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES 12.1. Mobile e-business Since we live nowadays in a dynamic world and we expect to get everything done from our pawn a mobile application for predaja.hr will be necessary so that students can turn in their work from their smartphones while they are in a tram, walking in a park and etc. It would be convenient for the students to know they can turn in their work at any time and at any place instead of waiting for their professors at certain office meeting hours. 12.2. Mobile Application for Smartphone Description and Functionality The mobile app would be pretty simple and it would offer you all the features as in a desktop version but obviously adapted to smartphone app standards. The mobile application would be compatible for iOS and Android software platforms. The students would be able to check their uploaded work and grades, and the mobile app would also remind them ahead of the approaching deadlines.

15. PROJECT STARTING COSTS For now we have conducted a rough estimate of the starting costs needed for the e-business (predaja.hr) to lunch. So far the costs are classified as: hosting, domain, advertising, hardware, software, mobile app and company registration. In my opinion the costs should approximately be not more then $43,450. Figure 2: Starting costs

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Item Hosting Domain Advertising CMS Hardware Software Mobile application Company registration TOTAL

Cost/year (US dollars) $100 $100 $15,000 Free $10,000 $15,000 $3,000 $250 $43,450

16. Website Prototype

21

16.1. Premium feature for students who pay the premium

16.2. Project Website Structure Description Our website structure is pretty simple and blank without any pop up ads or anything because we want it to look apealing and easy to handle for students and professors. It is structured in nine sections: Overview, Originality check, Online grading, Peer overview (only available to premium accounts), Ipad availability, Integrations, What's new, Demos and FAQs. Most of them are self explanatory and in my opinion are very easy to handle with. This will make the educations process more fun, available and improve the quality in general.

17. Conclusion This is a new concept and platform at the Croatian market. It should be incorporated easily into universities and hopefully it will become something students see as an advantage in their curriculum rather then a 'police body' put in

22

place to punish the cheaters and lazy students. It offers various features as stated above and it shold be ready to lunch within cople months from now. The Economic faculty of Zagreb would be the reasearch facility for this platform in order to see the benefits and weaknesses and to test how students react to it.
