Parent Information rientation isn’t just for students. Because you will play an important role in your student’s college experience, we invite you to attend the program as well so you can learn about IU’s resources, programs, and support services. During New Student Orientation, you will attend a few sessions with your student, and you’ll attend some sessions apart. Our family sessions include information on housing, financial aid, and ways to partner with the university for your student’s success. You will also hear from a current faculty member and learn much more about Indiana University Bloomington. We understand that “family” does not mean only “parents.” Guardians, spouses, and other significant supporters are always welcome to attend. However, please note that New Student Orientation is not designed to accommodate young children. Although Indiana University communicates primarily with your student, we take the relationship between the university, parents, and students seriously. It will be helpful to know what your student will be receiving and what he or she needs to do before 6

New Student Orientation and the start of classes. Please review the “Countdown to IU” checklist on the back cover of this guide to ensure nothing is overlooked. Please resist the temptation to make the online reservation for your student. Because your student will need to set up passwords and carefully read through each step, it’s important that he or she completes this process. While signing up, your student will have the opportunity to provide us with your email address so that we can send you a copy of the confirmation email. Encourage your student to do this so we may keep in touch with you too.
