Agile Project Management By Dr. Frank Aguilera

What is Agile Project Management and why do we need it?

Designer: Kathia Rubi

Consider a project, perhaps for software development, with time-sensitive constraints and requirements evolving constantly. Next, consider the ever-changing business environment, including innovation, complexity, size, uncertainty, growth, and globalization, with rapid changes in getting a product to market. For this project, traditional project documentation would be an extreme burden and could even doom it to failure.

The views expressed in articles are those of the writers only and not of ITU or the ITU Journal. ITU Journal is not responsible for accuracy of information cited in the news and events. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit submissions, with contributions capped at 400 words. Plagiarized submissions will be discarded.

The project team itself assumes the responsibility for determining how to best achieve the product goals (as established by the product owner). Team members collaboratively decide which person should work on which tasks, which technical practices are necessary to achieve stated quality goals. In an agile project, the entire team is responsible in managing itself--it is not just the project manager’s (‘team’s coach’) responsibility. Common sense is used over written policies. This fall semester, ITU will offer a course in Agile Project Management.

ITU Student Commencement Speech By Charitha Valluri

Charitha Valluri was a software engineer in India prior to coming to ITU to pursue her MBA. She currently works with the ITU Business Department as a Business Analyst. Charitha provided a student perspective at the commencement ceremony. As a new MBA graduate, she shared these points: We received a high caliber of education from the friendly professors and staff at ITU. Life is a wonderful journey in which we determine our own choices. ,I,ZURWHDERRN,ZRXOGWLWOHLWÂś/LIHLVQ¡WDERXWĂ€QGLQJ\RXUVHOI,W¡VDERXW FUHDWLQJ\RXUVHOI¡7KHĂ€UVWSDJHVZRXOGWKDQNP\SDUHQWVIRUORYLQJJXLGDQFH my husband for believing in my ability, and Dr. Amal Mougharbel for her support and encouragement. 2012 Distinguished Faculty Award By Dr. May Huang

Dr. Eric Chen received ITU’s 2012 Distinguished Faculty Award at the May graduation ceremony. Dr. Chen has supervised the ITU Electrical Engineering (( 'HSDUWPHQW¡V$UWLĂ€FLDO,QWHOOLJHQFH $, 5HVHDUFK/DEVLQFH$Gditionally, he taught courses in “Parallel Computing,â€? “Machine Leaning,â€? and “Computer Algorithmsâ€?. He leads research efforts in building self-motivated robots, using the most cutting-edge technologies. His gesture-control information system has been submitted for a US patent. His 3D image processing utilizes a tablet computer to connect live recordings to animation editing software. Dr. Chen has guided students building a computer cluster using obsolete parts, and demonstrated its use when teaching his “Parallel Computingâ€? course. this occasion, I would like to provide a few pointers that I have learned Dr. Ramesh Konda Speech On from my experience. These are three basic principles that I recommend: By Dr. Ramesh Konda

1. Show up to all your commitments. Whether it may be for class, or work, or any appointment. 2. Take care. During your work and/or future studies, you will receive feedback from your peers, managers and others. You should take care to understand both their positive and negative input. 3. Improve your skills. For many tasks, there may be new and better ways of doing them. Always try to learn and improve your skills, so that you can positively contribute to your employer and to society. This will result in improved passion in whatever you are doing. I would like to leave another suggestion with you today. If time permits in your future life, get involved in professional societies and community organizations. You can learn a lot from these sources, as well as contribute to society and your community. Through our involvement, we can pass on our learning and legacy to future generations.
