Editor’s Letter The flowers, the garlands, the lights, candles and festive colors remind us that the Holidays are here. They symbolize peace, hope and serenity. We bring wreaths and garlands, flowers and trees into our homes to usher in the spirit of Christmas. A tree decorated with bulbs and lights, the piney scent of potpourri and the warm light of burning candles remind us that this is a time of thoughtfulness and kindness, of family and forgiveness, of good cheer and generosity to those in need. Today, families are busier than ever, remember to slow down, make time for our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers. Never forget all of our soldiers, near and far that are fighting for our freedom. Please remember the soldiers that are dedicated to our freedom and whom have sacrificed for all of us. To their families, we pray that they will return home soon and safely. We all have so much to be thankful for. On behalf of our entire staff and sponsors of IT’s YOUR HOME, Happy Holidays and a Very Happy New Year! May this New Year bring you hope, peace and serenity.

THE ClEaning angEl

By: Donna Ferrante

My name is Donna Ferrante, and I own The Cleaning Angels. We are a cleaning service located in Pasco County. We also service Pinellas and Hernando Counties and now expanding into Hillsborough County. I am originally from Gorham, a small town in the white mountains of New Hampshire where hard work, honesty and dependability are part of our everyday routine. Being half Italian and half French Canadian makes for perfection in every way! I come from a family of entrepreneurs. My family has an Italian restaurant that is in its 65th year of business and is going into a 5th generation. The dedication and success in my clean business is due to the closeness of my wonderful family. I am proud and honored to say that I am following in the footsteps of my parents and grandparents. “We know how to cook, clean and we give 100% to the business.” Besides the influence of my family, I attribute the success of my company to a determined attitude, a tremendous amount of ambition and meticulous attention to detail which is all accompanied by an unstoppable drive. After fourteen years of cleaning on my own, I now have a team of great girls that I refer to as “My Cleaning Angels”. Move over Charlie, Donna has angels too! We are not the everyday cleaning service, as many of my competitors are; we are an extremely detailed cleaning service using the basic principles of mutual respect combined with good old fashion elbow grease, the angels produce homes with a heavenly sparkle. Our customers love our back to basics, old fashion cleaning techniques. From top to bottom, corner to corner, and everywhere in between. As owner of this business, I know what my customers are looking for and what they expect from a cleaning service. They want a detailed cleaning, but also one that is affordable. I make sure that my “Angels” have enough time to spend in each and every home. We go the extra mile such as removing the knobs from your stove, cleaning the light bulbs on your vanity, getting in between the tight space of your washer and dryer, the dust that accumulates above your medicine cabinet, and even the tracks of your sliding glass doors. If you would like a FREE estimate, allow us to make your life easier by giving us a call today. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, move-in, move outs, and commercial cleaning.

We see our doctor routinely to maintain our health, our dentist to maintain our teeth, and our mechanic to maintain our vehicles. Another routine checkup to add to your list is to make sure you see your air conditioning contractor to maintain the air conditioning system in your home. Preventative maintenance of your air conditioning system can add years of life to the system, lower electric bills, and help save on future repair bills. • Check thermostat settings to ensure the heating and cooling system turns on and off at the programmed temperatures. • Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause unsafe operation of your system and reduce the life of major components. • Lubricate all moving parts. Parts that lack lubrication cause friction in motors and increase the amount of electricity you use. It can also cause equipment to wear out more quickly, requiring more frequent repairs or replacements. • Check and inspect the condensate drain (when in cooling mode). If plugged, the drain can cause water damage in the house, affect indoor humidity levels, and breed bacteria and mold. • Check system controls to ensure proper and safe operation. Check the starting cycle of the equipment to assure the system starts, operates, and shuts off properly. Inspect, clean, or change air filter. A dirty filter causes energy costs to be greater than they should be and can damage your equipment, leading to early failures.

Do you find yourself with a lot of leftover boughs once you've trimmed your Christmas tree? Instead of just throwing them away, be creative this year and make your own holiday wreath. Here’s how:

Wrap thick metal wire around something circular to make the wreath's shape. You can use a bucket or a pail, for instance. (You can also use a wire coat hanger and shape it into a circle, then you can use the top hook part of the hanger to hang your finished wreath)

Take your leftover tree boughs clip into pieces about 6”-8” long (they don’t all have to be the same size. You want it to look natural. Then place them on the wire frame to make your design. (Wire ties work great to hold all in place)

Once you have completed the hard work of tying on greens, it's time to decorate your wreath. You can wire on all sorts of adornments: pine-cones (plain, painted or cover in glitter), small bells and Christmas ornaments of all kinds. You can also use ribbon to tie on decorations, such as cookie cutters, or wrap the wreath with a special garland. You also can glue on holly, berries and fruit.

Consider the wreath your holiday spirit and decorate it in whatever style suits your family.

Last but not least, hang the wreath, slip thin red ribbon around the top of the wreath frame (a bit of green wire is less conspicuous), and hang it from a screw, nail or hook. If you use a wire hanger the base to your hook is already in place.

Music Does Matter

Listening to music is a good thing. Music has so many wonderful effects on our body, mind, soul; mood and psyche that this world would certainly not have been a good place without. Music in children is of utmost importance. Every parent is worried about their child’s intelligence. The effect of music in children is amazing. Studies have shown that children who have exposure to music tend to have more intelligence than children who have no interest in music. This is because the brain gets stimulated by the rhythm and tone of music. When our local 5th graders were asked why they think music matters to them and how music makes them feel‌. They replied: Music is creative and fun! Music is influencing and makes me feel smart! Music allows me to express my feelings! I love music because it shows me who I am! Music connects my feels and emotions! So this holiday season find time to sing a little song and sing out loud. Surprise your child and have them unwrap a beautiful instrument and give them the gift of spirit and inspiration!

OLD TIME  By Kristin Vogt

o you remember how the "Holiday Season" filled with hectic schedules once brought smiles, joy and excitement to our lives and a sense of disappoint of it being over and gone? How children and adults all over America would look in the TV guide to see when the Tree lighting at Rockefeller Center would air. Going shopping to find that perfect holiday outfit and planning a family vacation. Writing your wish list and mailing it to that one address... The North Pole. Or celebrating Hanukkah, a whole 12 days of excitement and gifts. All the moms baking goodies in the kitchen for hours for the holiday parties at school. Parents and grandparents standing in lines for hours to buy those ever so popular items! My grandmother now 82 years young still reminds me of that one year her and my grandfather stood in line at Toys R Us for hours upon hours waiting for the next shipment of Cabbage Patch Kids to hit those selves. Every gift you opened was a surprise, you never knew what was under the wrapping paper and when you saw the first glimpse, your eyes would light up and your little heart would beat so fast trying to get out of the package! Then after all the holiday excitement all of America would what for December 31st and Dick Clarke at Time Square. Children all over would fight just to keep their eyes open till midnight to count down and watch the Apple drop and scream "HAPPY NEW YEAR" and all the adults would raise a glass and make a toast to all wonderful things to come in the New Year!

ow we dread the added stress, hectic schedules and all the crowds. Instead of baking goodies for holiday school parties, we have to go buy them at the local grocery stores. No more waiting in lines for hours waiting on the hot items, we just go to and have it shipped to our doors. Most of the time we know or at least have an idea of what is under all that wrapping paper. And as for Dick Clarke and Time Square, we can all still have a dream... Can't we?

This year make sure you thank all the moms,

dads, grandmothers and grandfathers for all the hard work, time and wonderful memories they created for you as a child during all those Holiday Seasons when times were not so easy. And during this time where many of us don't have it so easy with economy and hectic schedules of life as we know it today, try to add a bit of the past in your holidays. Cut out shipping and handling fees and go stand in line. Get one special gift that's not on the list and make it a surprise of the year. Instead of going out for New Years Eve, have a gathering at home and bake all those fun goodies with the kids and scream out as loud as you can "5,4,3,2,1.... Happy New Year" when the ball drops from Time Square! Then lean over and give your parents, grandparents and children a great big hug and kiss and be thankful for yet another beautiful "Holiday Season" together and begin the "New Year" with a wonderful start. Just remember, you’re never too old to bring back all the "Old Time Holiday Traditions" to your home!

Have a joyful and safe Holiday Season from our home to yours!

From Pumpkins to Peppermints

and then onto CHAMPAGNE! This is the season for food, family, and New Year’s resolutions. And on everyone’s top ten list is something about their image! Here are five great tips to remember when you are heading to a holiday dinner or New Year’s party.

1. If you wear something snug on

your waist you’ll be less likely to over indulge. Resist wearing your stretchy pants!

1. Make a list of all the things you like about yourself and the things you want to improve upon.

2.Give yourself an improvement budget. You do not need to spend a ton to look the way you want to. 3. Set & Write Down 30, 60, and

90 day goals of things you can do to help yourself mentally, financially, and physically.

4. Take 2 hours and

clean out your closet, for real. Put things that don’t fit in a bin—your goal may be to lose weight to get into them but in the mean time get them out of your sight. They are just taking up space and will not inspire you to “get thin” they will just remind you that you are not where you want to be. Trust me—when you get to your goal weight you’ll want new things anyway. Also—if it fits and you haven’t worn it in a year, get rid of it.

Now when it comes to the New Year it’s always a great time for a new you! You get to reinvent yourself if you want to. It all begins with your attitude! You have to love yourself the way you are in order to become the person you want to be. A few tips to get yourself ready for the New Year is to do a personal self and closet inventory.

to complete outfits. That way you can take it with you and power shop instead of browse. Browsing leads to over buying, buying mistakes, and wastes a lot of time.

6. Work on your goals daily.

You have to ask yourself at least 6 times a day, “Is what I’m doing right now getting me closer to my goals?” Change is a conscious effort! It has been said that it takes 21 days to replace a bad habit or create a new one. When it comes to looking great for a party or starting the new year out fresh, you can do it all by choosing to be happy with yourself and by making good choices. Image isn’t everything, but when you feel great on the outside it really does help the inside.

Eating Healthy This Holiday Season

When the holidays arrive, the temptation hits. Mom's famous dessert, Aunt Suzie’s delicious appetizers. Cakes, cookies, rich entrees and fatty side dishes adorn the holiday buffet tables. It can be a healthy eater's nightmare. But if you prepare yourself with the right tips and tools before you go to a holiday party, you may find that saying "no" to another bite of cheesecake is even easier than you might think.

Some little secrets to keep you on track and your body healthy: Limit yourself to three bites of any dish that you're desperate for. In this way you get the taste and satisfaction of eating something rich and delicious without all of the calories. When eating rich foods, eat slowly, savor every bite so that your brain knows that you have had enough and you are satisfied. Eat at home before you go to a holiday party or to a family event. Choosing a healthy meal of protein and vegetables will make it less tempting to indulge at the unhealthy buffet table at your holiday party. If you give in, choose foods that are fiber-rich. You will stay fuller longer.

Your drink of choice should be water, flavored

water, apple cider, club soda or diet soda. Alcohol is high in calories. If you really want to partake in a holiday libation, limit yourself to one per hour and drink a glass of water in between to cut your caloric and alcoholic intake over the course of the night. Bring your own food to the party in the way of an offering to the hostess. Ask her ahead of time if you can bring an appetizer or dessert, and then choose a healthy. Then you know for sure that there is a healthy dish for you to enjoy. Just think, you’ll have a head start on your New Year’s Resolution!

Living Your Dreams

The Importance of “Goal Setting” Living your dream can be something different for everyone. It’s the journey that gets you to the achievement of the dream, whether it is to become independently wealthy, or independently healthy. What drives you? What motivates you? Purpose? Passion? Do you have an unwavering desire for success? Why? The journey we are referring to is the way to self discovery, by first of all making the choice to dream, and asking yourself one thought provoking question: “If you have already achieved the financial success and security, and acquired all the materialistic “stuff” you ever wanted, would you be doing exactly what you are doing now?” If this thought provoking question leaves you with a satisfactory YES (your extraordinary self) and content with who and where you are in your life experience, Congratulations! If the question leaves you somewhat perplexed, or you may have never given it much thought, perhaps its time for you to consider there just might be something missing. It all begins with “the choice” to dream, a vision, a passion that you feel deep down within your spirit and pit of your soul.

will feel when the goal is achieved. Believe with all your heart “success” is the only option. Kick your mind, body and spirit into gear so you are healthy. Remember to ACT. A healthy mind body and spirit brings balance and harmony so you are ready to jumpstart Your dreams. We associate our action plan as “dancing the dance of life” whether you are tiptoeing like a ballerina, moving with a slow rumba, swing dancing in every direction, or stepping into a passionate tango. In fact one of our elixirs in life is to DANCE! The best of all worlds, when it comes to exercise. Cardio, metabolism boost, strengthening and toning all the muscles groups, relaxation and it is FUN!!

Here are a few secret tips on our GOAL SETTING:

1. Decide what outcome you want. Have a “crystal clear vision”.

It could even be a dream for that special vacation, a new invention, it does not matter! Or you may be searching for a dream. Whatever it is, if it is something you are wanting, YOU have the power to MAKE IT HAPPEN! NOW!

In today’s business Environment, how can you afford to not have a website? A website for your business will be working for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is most likely the least expensive tool you can employ to market your business. A website is a cost effective complement to the advertising that you do with brochures and in periodicals. The cost for the development of a website is a onetime charge. Beyond the development charges, the cost of keeping a website operational is minimal, typically $50-$100 per year. A website will complement your print advertising by letting you describe your business in complete detail, providing information to your potential customers that you could not afford to cover in a publication. Websites give you the opportunity to use unlimited graphics, photographs, dynamic content and animation. Do you sell products? How much more can you add to your bottom line if you are selling your products directly from your website? E-commerce on a website opens the doors of your store that never close. When you are sleeping, you website is still open and working to make your business more profitable. A website is easy to update to keep current with your changing business environment. These changes can be made quickly and easily either by yourself using a built in web page editor or by your site designer. This quick change advantage allows your customers to know about your changes immediately.

Celebrate… Remember…

Fight Back! By Kristin Vogt

The American Cancer Society Relay For

Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a life-changing experience. At Relay, every person in the community has a chance to celebrate, remember, and fight back. And every person who participates joins others around the globe as part of this worldwide movement to end cancer. Everyone’s reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease. You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime. Celebrate - The Survivors Lap: Relay starts with a Survivors Lap - an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. The Survivors Lap is an emotional example of how Relay participants are ensuring that more lives are saved each year - like those of each individual on the track. We also recognize and celebrate caregivers at Relay For Life. These individuals give their time, love, and support to friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers who face cancer. At Relay, people understand the frustrations and joys of being a caregiver, since the effects of cancer reach far beyond just the person diagnosed.

Remember - The Luminaria Ceremony: After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk a lap in silence. As people take time to remember, those who have walked alongside others battling cancer can grieve and find healing. This is a time that truly highlights the importance of defeating this disease. Fight Back - The Fight Back Ceremony: Last, there is a Fight Back Ceremony, where we make a personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer. That personal commitment may be to do something as simple as getting a screening test, quitting smoking, or talking to elected officials about cancer. By taking action, people are personally taking steps to save lives and fight back against a disease that takes too much. Celebrate, remember, and fight back are themes that link all Relays events together, but you can learn more about national event standards and recommendations and more about how to structure your Relay’s planning committee using a suggested three-tier approach by connecting to the documents below. As a cancer survivor, I know that Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society has and did change my life, not just for myself, but for my children and family as well. My first Relay was shortly after my fight began, a few of my dear friends I met through PTA at my children’s school participated every year for one of the other moms who had cancer in the past

and was a survivor. I joined hands with them on team Wizard of Oz and was enlightened to a whole new world. During the Luminaria Ceremony I was getting tired and I hurt so very bad (I had a treatment that week) my friends stood by me and I walk all the laps with my candle flaming high and during those laps a lady by the name of Candi came up to me and grabbed my hand with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face and said “You can do it, you’re not alone... we can do this together”! Candi Brenda, Debbie, Mary and I walked together, laughed together and fought together that night and it wasn’t just team Wizard of Oz that was with me for those 24 hours of Relay, it was a whole community holding my hand! All of those ladies are and always will be near and dear in my life and will forever hold a special place in my heart and soul. I urge you to try Relay for Life at least once and gather everyone you to know to join the journey with you, especially if you or someone you know has ever been affected by this horrifying and trying disease... I guarantee you will find your Candi, Debbie and Brenda to hold your hands too! Relay For Life is a community event. If you have been a part of a Relay for Life event, you already know how amazing it truly is. If you have never had the joy and opportunity to join and participate, it is a “Must Do” on your 2011 “To Do List”. You will not only help make a difference in so many lives, but you will take part in working together on a Cancer Free world! To take part in a Relay For Life event in your community contact your local American Cancer Society or visit them on the web at
