Subic Bay, Zambales – It was an exciting road trip up North and what greeted us is the serene beach side and picturesque mountains of Zambales, inspiring in every way to start off the year right. The 2019 Board of Governors (BOG) together with the IIEE National Secretariat Department Heads kicked off the year with the annual team building last January 18-19, 2019 at the Camayan Coast, Beach Resort, Subic Bay, Zambales, bannering the IIEE theme: “IIEE@44: Distinctive Journey in Advancing Global Competitiveness” The two day event commenced with the IIEE Orientation and training for the new BOG, the topics tapped were: Revisiting Leadership, Primer on Regional Governance, Roberts Rules, Chapter Operations Manual, Accounting for Non-Accountants by Punongbayan & Araullo. It was certainly informative as the influx of exchange of insights and ideas

On a beautiful Saturday morning at the beach front, the BOG and Department Heads teamed up for some action – the team building games spearheaded by the group of Camayan Resort. Let’s admit that this is one of the most awaited holidays aside from Christmas day as we enter a new chapter of our lives – a new beginning. The celebration is felt all over the world, having countdowns everywhere; massive fireworks display that wherever you look, you can see colorful display of lights in the sky. It is midnight but the noise is almost unbearable because of the parties, the sound of firecrackers, and other props that the people are using to celebrate the New Year. Indeed, a celebration for all of us, for our families around the globe. What’s funny about this time is that almost everyone is dedicated to change, many people are hitting the gym, give more time to exercise and be fit, some decide to spend more time with family, to give more efforts on their daily tasks, but after few weeks or even months, they are back to being their usual self, back to their previous lifestyle. These are some of

their endeavors that are not meant to be done as expected. New Year is also dangerous as the rate of fireworks related accidents elevate during this time. From minor injuries and sometimes it even leads to death. Even the hospitals are displaying their horrifying apparatus that will be used to treat those kinds of injuries, some people still continue to use fireworks and firecrackers knowing serious consequences if they will be careless. Some people are shooting their guns during this time to make loud noise which has a huge consequence where some people might be hit by a stray bullet. Others are burning flammable materials like tires to light up their area which create negative effect in our environment.

New Year is really a special holiday, but let us not wait for it to come just so we can start our resolutions, everyday is a new day, everyday is a chance for us to be better, to show more love to our family, to exert more efforts in our daily tasks. And for those who use fireworks and firecrackers every New Year, please refrain doing it. Instead, light up those fireworks in an area far from the mass and use it with precaution to avoid accidents. Let us celebrate new year happily and safely. Happy 2019 to everyone!
