The Longhorn Drover is back! We are pleased to unveil the ITLA’s new online magazine for your reading pleasure. Thank you to Communication Chair, Russell Hooks, for his work in bringing our new communication format to the ITLA. If you like this new format, please consider advertising. The rates are very affordable and the distribution list is growing at a fast rate. Welcome Cori Garcia of Rafter M Ranch, who has accepted the position of youth director for 2019. Cori has many years of experience with youth and has great plans to bring our youth association to the forefront. The Garcia ancestry influenced the start of the Milby Butler herd and I am excited for the influence Cori is going to have on the ITLA youth program. We have met the request of the miniature longhorn industry to become associated with the ITLA. The office is set up to accept registration applications for miniature longhorns and we have added classes for miniatures on the show circuit.
Welcome to the ITLA board Mr. Terry Brink from Oklahoma representing Region 6 and Mr. Mike Tomey from Indiana who joins the Board filling the Immediate Past President seat. breeds. We’ve been breeders for 10 years and became more involved in the show side of the longhorn industry about 5 years ago. I have been blessed with numerous opportunities to help our youth in the longhorn industry. My show kids call me “Show Mom” and it’s a title that I’m honored to be given by them. Most of the breeders and youth exhibitors that we have met along the way have become our “Longhorn family”, and we are blessed to know each and every one of them. Howdy! I would like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Cori Garcia and I am very excited to be your 2019 ITLA Youth Director.
I was raised in Hico, Texas on my family’s 250 acre, 3rd generation cattle ranch that was established in 1964. I have been around the cattle industry my entire life, and learned most of what I know from my Mom and Dad, D.L. and Mary McCoy. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Rick Garcia, for 20 years. We have a son, Cody Garcia, that spent most of his time in the show ring with longhorns, but is now a Junior at Texas A&M University, where he is a double Ag Science Major, a member of the Corps of Cadets, and in the Air Force ROTC.
I look forward to meeting everyone and hearing your ideas as we work together to help our ITLA Youth program be the best it can be for the kids of the Longhorn industry. Sincerely, Cori Garcia Rafter M Ranch Hico, Texas 2019 ITLA Youth Director
We built our current home in 2009 at Rafter M Ranch to help with the daily up keep and herd management for my parents. We sold our commercial cattle not long after that due to long term drought conditions and started raising Registered Texas Longhorns because of their ability to thrive in harsher conditions than most other 11

The ITLA office has been working on several new changes and additions. One of these changes is we are now selling shirts and hoodies with ITLA Logo. Go check them out at www.itla.com. We also offer different items as well. These items are a great way to show your support of your association. December and January have been consistent months with registrations and transfers coming in at steady pace. We are excited to announce that the ITLA will be hosting a Luncheon for those that will be attending the Millennium Futurity in Glen Rose. The ITLA Headquarters sit on the hill just above the Expo Center. We hope you will plan to come up the hill between 11 and 1pm on Friday May 10th to join us for lunch. We look forward to visiting with everyone and showing you around the membership owned ITLA Headquarters. We are making plans for the 2019 Championship Show and Convention in Sulphur Springs, TX. We are excited about what each day holds for your ITLA. Madeline McGuire Office Manager
The ITLA show committee is kicking off the year with two big projects underway. This year our committee will be going through the ITLA Show Rules book, making any necessary changes and updates. It has been several years since we have done this. Any exhibitors who have any input on this, please feel free to contact me. At the request of many members at the general membership meeting in Oklahoma, we will be working towards a judging clinic this year. Folks liked the online format we used in the past, which makes it great for people all over to participate! Exciting news for miniature longhorn breeders! The ITLA board unanimously approved a class list to incorporate minis into our longhorn shows. There are 6 classes for females, 1 class for bulls, and one class of steers. The miniature will be judged by the
same criteria we are currently utilizing for standard size cattle. The miniatures are expected to make their debut in the ITLA show ring at the spring show in McKinney, Texas. Welcome to the ITLA family! Early plans for the 2019 Convention in Sulphur Springs are shaping up quickly. Our ITLA website has been updated with information on hotels, events and sponsorship opportunities. Mark your calendar now so you don’t miss this year end favorite! If you are planning any shows or events, please make sure you utilize the events page on the website to promote your event. Lots of folks are watching to see what longhorn events are happening. Look forward to a successful show season in 2019! Lizz Huntzberry ITLA Show Chairman
