Pure Energy is the slogan the City of Reykiavik has chosen to represent it in it's marketing abroad. Pure Energy does not only refer to the city's enviable distinction of having an abundance of renewable sources of clean energy, Reykjavil<'s plentiful sources of green, geothermal energy ensure clean air and unpolluted water. Reykjavik's Pure Energy also refers to the vibrant culture and Reykjavik's fun filled nightlife. Lately Reykjavik has become known as a uniquely creative city through its buzzing music scene with growing number of annual festivals and internationally acclaimed artists. ln latter years,The Reyl<iavik Marathon has coincided with Reykjavik Culture Night, a huge feast of art and entertainment in downtown Reykjavik. Combining these two even$ thereby emphasizes the thought in Reykjavik's slogan, Pure Energy. ln the daytime, energetic runners press themselves to their limits in one of the most difficult of events, and artists stretch our imagination with their presentations in the evening. The yearly Midnight run took place on the 23rd of June,which is called J6nsmessun6tt and is the longest day of the year, in Laugardalur Reykjavik.The distances were l0 km,5 km and a 3 km fun run.The weather was good and a total of about g00 runnersr from toddlers to experienced runners, started at l0 pm and ran into the Reykjavik night.After the run people followed tradition and rolled around in the morning dew, because according to an lcelandic myth you are supposed to dream of the man/woman you will marry if you do that on J6nsmessa night. Birkir Marteinsson was the first male runner to finish in the I 0 km run, his time was 35:35, but Martha Ernstd6ttir was the first female on 36:52. ln the 5 km Arni Richard Arnason was the first male and his time was lg:04, the first female was Hronn Gu6mundsd6ttir, her time 20:47. All the participants got a medal after finishing their distance and had a change to relax in the hot-tubs in the Laugardalur swimming pool.

The Ultra Marathon took place on the l6th of July for the 9th time. Many runners think this is the most enjoyable run we have here in lceland because the route is exceptionally beautiful and very demanding.The race route is called Laugavegur and is in the highlands so the runners have to climb mountains, cross rivers and run in the snow.The distance is 55 km and is from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork.This year there were 130 participants, which is an all time record, there of 48 foreigners from l2 countries. Only three runners did not make it all the way so 127 finished the race.Andrew Shaw from the UK was the first male runner to finsish the race, his time was 4:44.36. Jackie Bale, also from the UK, was the first woman and she
