Con un largo camino transitado en el Taekwon-Do, Vicente José Pérez González VII Dan, asegura encontrarse más que satisfecho con el trabajo que se está realizando en Venezuela.

¿Cómo fue el desarrollo del ITF Venezuela desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad?

Comenzamos en 1982, en el Estado de Vargas, en donde ni siquiera había un gimnasio de Taekwon-Do. Ahí empezó todo, después con el correr de los años fuimos ampliándonos. Llegamos a tener 16 gimnasios con sus respectivos alumnos. Fue un trabajo muy duro y poco a poco llegamos a la realidad de hoy en día.

¿Cómo se encuentra la Federación hoy en día?

Con las cuestiones políticas que están ocurriendo en el país, algunos de los gimnasios empezaron a cerrar en varios lugares de Venezuela. Hoy en día tengo muchos alumnos en distintos países como Chile, España, Argentina. Lamentablemente el ciudadano venezolano empezó a emigrar, cosa que antes nunca hacía. También sufrimos fuertes inundaciones, todo esto hizo que de los 16 gimnasios que teníamos quedarán solo dos. ¿Cómo funcionan esas 2 escuelas que están trabajando hoy en día?

Las escuelas esas que hay abiertas hoy en día, trabajan con mucho amor, mucha pasión para mantener el legado del General Choi. En la parte deportiva somos muy perseverantes, muy competitivos. En el último torneo que se hizo de manera presencial en Argentina, llevamos 80 competidores, es más, salimos campeones. Pese a todos los contratiempos que tenemos en el país, el Taekwon-Do sigue creciendo. Estoy muy satisfecho con el trabajo que se está haciendo. Yo les digo a mis alumnos que deben ser apasionados en lo que hacen, lo tienen que sentir.

How was the development of the ITF Venezuela from its beginnings to the present?

We started, in 1982, in the State of Vargas, where there was not even a Taekwon-Do gym. That's where we started everything, then over the years we expanded. We got to have 16 gyms, with their respective students. It was very hard work and little by little it was what it is today.

How is the Federation today?

With the political issues that are happening in the country, some of the gyms began to close in various places in Venezuela. Today I have many students in different countries such as Chile, Spain, Argentina. Unfortunately, the Venezuelan citizen began to emigrate, which he never did before. We also suffered heavy flooding, all this meant that of the 16 gyms we had, only two remained.

How do those 2 schools that are working today?

The schools that are open today work with a lot of love, a lot of passion to maintain General Choi's legacy. In the sports part we are very persevering, very competitive. In the last tournament that was held in person in Argentina, we had 80 competitors, what's more, we were champions. Despite all the setbacks we have in the country, Taekwon-Do continues to grow. I am very satisfied with the work that is being done. I tell my students that they must be passionate about what they do, they have to feel it.

¿Cuál es el ADN de un taekwondista venezolano?

Somos muy competitivos. Nos pueden poner a quien sea adelante que nosotros vamos a darlo todo. Una vez en un Torneo, a un alumno lo golpearon fuertemente por la espalda, quedó lesionado, y siguió peleando hasta el final. Con esto quiero decir que los venezolanos somos competitivos.

¿Cómo ve al Taekwon-Do en Venezuela? ¿Cuál es su futuro?

Cuando yo competía mis alumnos me veían competir y tomaban ese ejemplo para progresar. Ahora ellos son instructores y sus alumnos los miran a ellos. Es como una cadena, con engranajes. Ahí va la pasión. Siempre en este país va a haber buenos competidores. Porque hay buenas bases.

¿Cómo se proyecta la formación de instructores?

Cuando el General Choi estaba vivo, nosotros íbamos mucho a los Seminarios, a aprender. Después hacíamos uno a nivel Nacional y ahí volcábamos todo lo que habíamos aprendido e íbamos formando a los instructores, si era buen competidor le inculcábamos que podía ser un buen instructor. Tenemos dos muy buenos instructores que nunca han competido. Y ahora seguimos de la misma manera con los virtuales. Siempre estamos presentes. La mejor estrategia es siempre estar al día, participar siempre.

¿Cómo es manejar todo de manera virtual?

Siempre estamos en contacto. Tenemos una buena directiva y yo creo que esto es lo que hace que estemos fuertes. Hay muchos instructores que están haciendo muchísimo esfuerzo. La Federación está muy fuerte en Venezuela y lo va a estar por muchos más años. Me gustaría retomar la manera de dar clases presenciales, ir a torneos, seminarios. Esa sensación de estar tomando clases con la persona al lado, la verdad no tiene precio. Quiero agradecer al GM Néstor Galarraga que ha hecho un grandísimo trabajo como amigo y como instructor. Son muchos años que nos conocemos, desde el Mundial Juvenil de Polonia en 1982. También a todos los instructores de toda América. Pienso que con todas las ideas que tiene el Gran Master vamos por el mejor camino.

What is the DNA of a Venezuelan taekwondo player?

We are very competitive. They can put anyone forward that we are going to give everything. Once in a tournament, a student was hit hard from the back, he got injured, and he kept fighting until the end. By this I mean that Venezuelans are competitive.

How do you see Taekwon-Do in Venezuela? What is your future?

When I competed, my students watched me compete and took that example to progress. Now they are instructors and their students look at them. It is like a chain, they are gears. There goes the passion. There will always be good competitors in this country. Because there are good bases.

How is the training of instructors planned?

When General Choi was alive, we used to go to seminars a lot, to learn. Then we would do one at the National level and there we would put everything we had learned and we would train the instructors, if he was a good competitor we would instill in him that he could be a good instructor. We have two very good instructors who have never competed. And now we continue in the same way with virtual ones. We are always present. The best strategy is to always be up to date, always participate.

What is it like to handle everything virtually?

We are always in contact. We have a good board of directors and I believe that this is what makes us strong. There are many instructors who are putting in a lot of effort. The Federation is very strong in Venezuela and it will be for many more years. I would like to resume the way of giving face-to-face classes, going to tournaments, seminars. That feeling of taking classes with the person next to you, the truth is priceless. I want to thank GM Néstor Galarraga who has done a great job as a friend and as an instructor. We have known each other for many years, since the World Youth World Cup in Poland in 1982. Also all the instructors from all over America. I think that with all the ideas that the Grand Master has, we are on the best path.
