Daiquiri Beebe, business owner and realtor at Abby Realty, has been serving members of the Huntsville community since 2016. Beebe got her start in the real estate business nearly 17 years ago in Arizona, before coming to Texas to raise her family. While trying to make money for her growing family, Beebe found working in real estate to be her best option, as the schedule is flexible and didn’t require a college degree. “One of the reasons that I do this is so that I can support my family and be there for my kids. And add on to that, for them to be able to see me be successful is pret-
ty great,” Beebe said. “To go from being a home-school mom making no money to being pretty successful with my business, it’s pretty cool and my kids see that.” Beebe shows her children and her community that she cares for the people that she serves, as she makes buying and selling residential real estate as painless as possible. She explained that many of her clients are advanced in age and are seeking to move closer to their families for love and support. This is where Beebe steps in and guides them through the process. “Being able to make that easier and smoother for them, it’s a lot of fun. And just the fact that they can get through a transaction without stress,” Beebe noted. She not only does this for her elderly
clientele, but everyone, as she knows the process of buying a new home can be emotionally taxing for anyone. “I try to make it as stress-free as possible for my clients, because I don’t want them to stress. It’s emotional enough to buy or sell a house, because you’re either attached to the home or it’s your first purchase. Just being able to hold their hand and walk them through it is really the best part of it,” Beebe said. Beebe is also a member of the Walker County Referral Cooperative, a group of local business owners who work together to grow their businesses. Through this group, she is continuing to serve her community by raising money to donate skateboards to children when the Huntsville skate park opens.

Clint Wilson has been the owner and operator of Cowboy Contractors since its inception in 2000, and has since become known as the best company for remodeling your home in Walker County. He also noted that he has electricians, plumbers and HVAC specialists working under him to help better serve his clients. Wilson started in construction at a young age, learning from his father and applying his knowledge in the summers between school years. Not only did Wilson’s father provide him with advice, Bob Osborn, James Patterson and Don Johnson showed him what it meant to be a contractor and a business owner. With their guidance, Wilson was able to eventually venture out on his own and start his own business. Wilson continues to be inspired by those around him, as he works alongside amazing craftsmen and
office managers, who keep the business on track. He finds that without these team members, Cowboy Contractors would be nothing. The support of the Huntsville community is also a pillar of the business, as Wilson seeks to support and assist local veterans and EMS workers in need of his services. “Without our customers and our community and the people I work with, we wouldn’t be where we’re at now. We wouldn’t be anything at all,” Wilson said. This line of work has proven to be fulfilling for Wilson, as he is able to look back at his work and reflect on what he has done. “In the business we’re in, we can
actually turn around and see what we’ve accomplished that day. That’s a very fulfilling part of it,” Wilson said. Finally, Wilson finds the service that his work provides to his fellow community members to be the most worthwhile part of his job. He
looks forward to helping people and making an impact on their lives. “What it all boils down to is we’re helping somebody. Whether it be the pipes busted during the freeze or we’re building them a patio on the back of their house,” Wilson added.

Dana Williams, the marketing and sales director at Carriage Inn, has been a staple of the assisted living facility for the past four years. She started there as the business office manager and quickly moved to her current position within her first six months of employment. Williams and her colleagues provide residents of Carriage Inn with independent and assisted living quarters. She explained that independent living is similar to retirement life, only with more readily available support and all-inclusive rent. This includes meals, housekeeping, maintenance, activities,
transportation, lifeline pendant, all utilities and basic extended cable. The only things not covered in the rent are personal phones and internet access in the apartments. “In an independent facility, we take the hassles of home ownership out,” Williams said. “Our residents don’t have to mow their lawn, they don’t have to clean, they don’t have to cook. We just take that away, so they get to live their life the best.” Those in assisted living receive all the same benefits as those living independently, in addition to a personal care plan and assistance from the on-staff nurse and care staff. They assist those who require aid with dressing, showering, managing medications and other tasks that
grow more difficult with age. Williams got into senior care after her mother told her that everyone should have a senior in their life. Since hearing this, Williams has a passion for working with the elderly. She finds that helping the families of new residents find solace Is a rewarding part of her work. Williams enjoys meeting with them and helping ease their worries as their loved ones move on to the next stage in their lives. “There’s always a little place in my heart for somebody who has to move on to that next step in life. Just being the person that they can talk to — and I can assure them that it’s going to be okay and all that — that’s a special bonding moment,”

Quickly making an impact in the Huntsville community MIKAH BOYD FOR THE ITEM
John Enterline opened Jersey Mike’s in Huntsville in February, making him a franchisee after working for the company for 19 years. Since its opening, Jersey Mike’s has provided quality subs, with each sandwich crafted fresh upon order, and all the ingredients handsliced and sorted in the store. “Everything is fresh, made to order and we bake our own bread inhouse every single day. We’re trying to do things the old-fashioned way and the right way,” Enterline said. Enterline started as an hourly worker for his local store in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2002. He found
employment there after learning of an open position from his friends, and has since then been able to work his way up through the ranks to the position of franchisee. “That’s how we get employees, we recruit from the good existing employees. Do they have friends and do they know somebody looking for a job?” Enterline said. He went on to explain that his managers are compensated properly to help them thrive, instead of simply getting by. The managers of the store, Maria Cavazos, Jacob Chapman and Grae Enterline confirm this statement through their workplace enthusiasm. “We’re not just a sub shop. We’re a family,” Cavazos said.
Interacting with members of the community and creating bonds with customers are the most rewarding parts of the job to Enterline. “The best part of the job is being able to know the customers and building that first name basis with people. We want to know what they want to eat before they even walk through the front door,” Enterline added. Jersey Mike’s has started building these relationships since the grand opening of the store, with an early fundraiser with the Huntsville VFW. This community support is common in all Jersey Mike’s locations, as each franchise store works to stay true to their roots as a community deli.
“We love to give back to the community in any way that we possibly can, so whether it’s donating food to some causes or having a percentage of sales on a given day go
back to a charity or school program. Anybody in need, we want to know who it is, and we want to do everything that we can to help out in the community,” Enterline said.

Yummy, Yummy remains the top spot for Asian dining MIKAH BOYD FOR THE ITEM
Yummy Yummy Mongolian Grill has been a hotspot in Huntsville since opening in 2011, with success of the business largely due to the encouraging work environment created by Angela Rowland. Before Yummy Yummy came to Huntsville, Rowland worked for the parent company and appreciated their effective and sustainable business model. This appreciation led her to follow the company as they came to establish the Mongolian Grill and continue to work for them as the general manager of the restaurant.
In her current position, Rowland helps advertise the business and bring in customers. In order to do this, she uses her creative mind to come up with different advertising strategies and promotions that appeal to all potential patrons. Rowland explained that making Yummy Yummy a great place to work is one of the most rewarding parts of her job, as happy workers lead to better service. As manager, Rowland also seeks to maintain a healthy work environment for her employees. She has found that keeping the work environment friendly and problem-free for employees en-
ables them to focus on keeping customers satisfied and encourages them to return. One of the ways that they keep their patrons coming back is by providing a wide variety of items on their menu. “There’s something for everybody, if you don’t like raw fish, we have the grill,” Rowland said. Rowland elaborated on this, saying that they feature items such as quesadillas and cheese sticks to cater to even the pickiest of eaters, while still providing quality Asian food to the community. With this variety, she hopes that those who may have overlooked the Mongolian grill in the past will give them a try.

Community is the central part of Clint McLaren’s world view.
