What Makes a Cell Phone 'Smart'?

Hi, it's me, Vita. I have an Irish proverb for you today: " Girls need beauty a lot more than brains because guys can see a lot better than they can think." Like it? :) Opening Office 2007 documents with Office 2003 I know some of you are still working with Microsoft Office Suite 2003. After all, the times are harsh, and "if it ain't broke..." The problems start when you receive a document from someone who has upgraded to the 2007 or the 2010 version. Or do they? At first sight, you are unable to open the document. But... The screen on a smartphone is often much larger, with higher resolution and the overall handset size is normally larger so as to accommodate the increase in hardware. On the downside the battery life is often less than on a basic phone, often needing to be recharged daily. Music players are also likely to be higher end, with better sound. A smartphone is more likely to have an external speaker to play music over when compared to a basic phone. The biggest, and defining difference is that a smartphone will run on an operating system that is considered 'open'. This means that other people and companies can develop applications for it. These applications may range from games, to utilities that make the

phone easier to use by giving better control over the settings, to other useful functions like maps, Sat Nav systems, and weather applications. One of the big smartphone manufacturers has a saying that suggests that whatever you need, there's an application that will do it for you. This is not true of basic phones, which may not allow you to install anything at all, limiting you to only the features and functions that are installed at the time that you bought the phone. When comparing the two, the features of a smartphone don't make a basic phone dumb at all, and some people will never have a need for the high level of connectivity that a smartphone brings. But if you are one of the people who is craving a little more functionality from your phone, then it may just be time to consider buying a smartphone.
