gins here. Discover your passion. You order a laptop online and expect it to be delivered to your door within 48 hours. That simple transaction sets in motion a complex web of activities involving information, manufacturing and delivery systems. Industrial engineers design, build, analyze and continuously improve these systems for industries such as health care, defense, manufacturing, entertainment and transportation. Industrial engineers help people get more out of life by improving work environment, providing better service and reducing the cost of products that people buy. They find new ways to reduce times in lines at amusement parks; create optimal schedules for professional sports leagues; and design admissions procedures at hospitals. Industrial engineers work at Fortune 500 companies and small businesses to create systems that are safer, more responsive to customers, cost less and have a reduced impact on the environment.

Be greater than you imagine The industrial engineering department is small enough for you to have personal attention from faculty, but large enough to choose from a variety of educational opportunities. Areas of study: Learn the fundamentals of the profession and develop specific expertise in areas that interest you:

ENGINEER YOUR FUTURE Many of our graduates have built successful careers not only as engineers, but also as managers, entrepreneurs, sales representatives and consultants. The average starting salary of industrial

engineering graduates is $61,500/year. Co-op and internship salaries for our

students average more than $19/hour. More than 500 companies visit the

College of Engineering each year to recruit our students.

100 percent of our industrial engineering

students have in-profession placement within six months of graduation.

E ngineering management: Learn to manage a successful company by taking courses like supply chain management, technical sales, economics, marketing and accounting. M anufacturing: Plan a successful manufacturing operation by studying processes, production systems and quality-control procedures. H uman factors (ergonomics): Study the relationship between people and their physical environment and design safer and more productive design workspaces. E nterprise computing: Design and implement cutting-edge computational techniques for today’s high-tech world. O perations research: Find the best solution for improving a system by optimizing inventory, scheduling, transportation and logistics. Industry careers: If you are looking for a flexible career path, industrial engineering is for you. Consider these industry products and services that people use every day and where these career paths can take you: M anufacturing: Help make better quality products that last longer and are produced for a competitive price.

H ealth care: Save lives by ensuring quality and consistency in producing medical devices; and designing hospital processes that allow people to see doctors sooner, and make treatments more efficient and effective. T echnical sales: Companies hire industrial engineers to sell their technical products to other companies, because they use their problem solving skills to show how the products can add value. Combine your technical and communication skills to meet this industry-wide need. A irlines: Help airlines determine the best schedules so their customers are satisfied with travel options while reducing operating costs.

Hands-on learning: You won’t just hear about concepts. Our laboratories and industry projects provide many opportunities for hands-on learning including: A pplied ergonomics Enterprise computing Machining processes M etalcasting M etrology O perations research and production systems
