Higher, larger, safer, better—the construction engineer builds dreams, whether they are buildings, bridges, roadways or any other component of physical infrastructure. Construction engineers develop relationships with clients and lead teams to create and turn plans into reality. They are detail-oriented people who solve problems and answer questions like: How much will it cost to build? What kind of people will I need to hire to complete the project? What type of equipment will be needed and when? Because they have a broad range of skills—planning, project management, scheduling, purchasing and financing—construction engineers are in high demand. Learn how to tackle big vision projects such as skyscrapers, transportation systems, educational facilities, malls and manufacturing plants—places where people live, work and play. A good construction engineer learns to build strong working relationships to manage and complete projects. You participate in teams responsible for developing proposals, solving problems, managing projects and researching information. Your courses teach you how to work successfully with clients, crews, community leaders and other engineers to finish projects.

engineering graduates is $54,000/year. Co-op and internship salaries for our

students average more than $19/hour. More than 500 companies visit the

College of Engineering each year to recruit our students.

students have in-profession placement within six months of graduation.

Experiential learning: Our award-winning student teams consistently place among the top in the country in the Associated Schools of Construction regional competitions. In class, students track specific construction projects, submit mock bids for real projects and compete with actual construction firms. Top program: Our construction engineering program is one of the largest in the country and one of only a few accredited by ABET. Our size means great resources, facilities, faculty and connections!

Strong national network: Our program has a large and strong network of active alumni who represent some of the most reputable construction firms in the country such as Weitz Company, J. E. Dunn Construction Company, Black & Veatch Corporation and Kiewit Construction Company—as well as smaller-scale businesses. Industry and alumni are committed to providing extra funding to enhance one-on-one learning in laboratory classes. Specialized classes: Courses prepare you for problem solving and project management, as well as the necessary technical skills required to complete projects.
