Paradise Park Children’s Centre Summer Term Update Wednesday 15th April 2015

Dear Centre User, A few points to keep you up to date with what’s happening in the centre. We had a busy Spring term managing staff changes in the nursery and taking children to the Theatre with some funding from the Local Initiatives Fund which our Councillor Rakhia Ismail helped us to get. Café Improvements This Term we are being redecorated. We are making the café better by employing Sarah and Lisa for more hours and hope that you will see some positive changes as a result of this. It will be open and staffed from 9.00am to 5.00pm and affordable healthy food will be available (watch out for the noticeboards outside the café). Upcoming Activities We have some exciting activities coming up this term. On the 23rd of April we will start a six week project on Thursday Mornings 10-12 with Holloway Library and The House of Illustration (an art gallery in kings cross) where families can come and make a book together which will be published. If you are interested in being part of this project please contact Helen (, one of the family support workers, Naz in the nursery, or speak to Sarah or Lisa (café/reception).

In this issue:  Café Improvements  Upcoming Activities  Family Kitchen Sessions  New Volunteers  Nursery Garden Improvements  Advisory Board Meeting  Playground Celebration Days  Job Vacancies  Volunteer Opportunities

Nursery Garden Improvements Siri, one of our nursery parents who is also an architect, has made a plan for improving the ‘stage area’ in the Garden after consulting nursery children. We are now at the stage of thinking about funding for it.

Family Kitchen Sessions We are also going to do more family Kitchen sessions starting in May and June. The first will be for everyone and then we plan to run one for Turkish families. Please speak to Sarah or Lisa about these. They are a 6 week course where parents and children are involved in cooking healthy dishes. We are planning to run the first one on Tuesdays 3.00pm to 5.00pm starting in mid-May. New Volunteers We have lots of new volunteers to help with crèches, stay and plays and the kitchen so you may see some of these about. The first to start are Yvette and Yvonne in the crèche and stay and play and Fatima in the Kitchen so thanks to them. One of the aims of a children’s centre is to help people with young children back to work so please ask us what we can do for you if this is something you are interested in.
