COFFEE IS A STYLE By: Aimnath
Drinking coffee at all times of the day is quite common and normal. The goal is to convey an image: Drinking coffee is a “style.” Coffee has become the favorite past times of Maldivians. This new trend is being followed by all ages and people in different walks of life. From teenagers to business men everyone wants to enjoy the coffee frenzy. Coffee is native to the East African tropics but is now cultivated in tropical areas worldwide. Coffee was first discovered around 1000 AD when a flock of goats were observed jumping in excited fashion when they grazed on coffee berries. An Arab farmer decided to eat some of the fruit himself and he immediately felt more alert. The World’s Most Expensive Coffee is the “Kopi Luwak” (civet coffee). Regarded as the rarest and therefore the most expensive coffee on the global market. So what’s all the fuss about and why are these elusive coffee beans so rare? The answer lies with the local fauna. The palm civet, a cat-like mammal, that consumes - among other fruits - coffee cherries. The Civet chews on the ripe cherries and coffee bean, is later retrieved by farmers once it has taken its natural course through the cat. The bean is then washed and roasted. People prefer to drink a cup of coffee early in the morning as a wake up call before starting the day. We are now able to see coffee being served at meetings, gatherings, parties at anyplace anytime of the day. Popular types of coffee drinks include, black coffee, Espresso, Cappuccino, coffee latte, iced coffee and mocha.
But in reality, how many of you say “Lets go for a Coffee” and end up drinking something else.
Cool things you never knew about the Maldivian favourite past time - “70% of the world consumes Arabica coffee, which is mild and aromatic. 30% drinks Robusta, which is bitter-tasting but has 50% more caffeine.” - “Coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth.” - “Espresso: It’s not a particular type of bean, roast or blend. Espresso is just a way that coffee is prepared: shooting pressurized, hot water through finely ground coffee.” -Coffee Has Its Own Designated Holidays In Costa Rica, it’s September 12; the Irish celebrate it on September 19, and October 1 is designated as “Coffee Day” in Japan. -Coffee received a major boost in popularity during the rise of Islam, a religion which outlawed alcohol but adopted coffee as an acceptable drink. It was even called qahwa which is the old Arab word for wine; from which the name “coffee” is thought to derive. -In male’ there’s a coffee shop within a 5 minute walk from anywhere.

So is the trend actually saying that you are going for a coffee or DO YOU ACTUALLY have ONE? I am sure that this has been an observation for many. So what’s the buzz about coffee and coffee houses? Let’s face it, the jolt from the caffeine is a strong attraction. Besides, it makes you classy and sophisticated. Coffee houses are considered a positive trend. “I’ll meet you for a cup of coffee,” has become slang, it has become the door way to ask some one out, a good way to socialize. So Is coffee helpful or harmful to your health? Serious coffee drinkers will tell you there is nothing like a good cup of coffee to get your day going but those beans may do more than boost your concentration. Coffee has been known to enhance perception and increases physical performance, it also improves alertness and can be used to aid sports training for longer endurance. It helps to stop migraine headaches, curb appetite and prevent tooth decay, Research shows that drinking coffee reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease ,Alzheimer’s disease and stroke and type 2 diabetes. Coffee drinking is major source of antioxidants for most people. Some drawbacks on drinking too much coffee include jitteriness and nervousness, upset stomach, headaches, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping, increased heart rate , increased blood pressure. So the trick is not to over do it. And keep following the Coffee trend!!!

One day a girl came to her father They conveyed Salam to one another and the father asked her how she was. She replied saying that life has been hard on her and her luck was on the downhill, she was tired of fighting and struggling. Of working so hard to make things right. It seemed that just as one problem was solved another one arose. The girl’s father was a chef, so he took her to the kitchen, filled three pots with water and placed the fire on high. Soon the three pots came to a boil. In one of the pots he placed some carrots, in the other he placed eggs, and in the last he placed some ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word. The daughter stood impatiently and wondered what he was trying to do. She had come to him with a problem, and he was making this strange concoction. After half an hour he walked over to the stove and turned down the fire. He then took out the carrots, eggs and coffee and placed them in a bowl. Turning to her he asked. “Darling what do you see?
Smartly, she replied, “Carrots, eggs, and coffee.” He brought her closer and asked her to touch the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hardboiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Her face frowned from the strength of the coffee. A little bit confused she asked, “What does it mean Father?” He explained. “Each of them faced the same hardship of boiling in water. However, each one reacted differently. The carrot went in strong & hard, but after going through boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg was fragile, a thin outer shell protected a liquid center. But after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The coffee beans are unique however. After they were in the boiling water, it became stronger and richer.
Which are you, he asked his daughter? When difficulty knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean? Are you the carrot that seems hard, but with the smallest amount of pain, hardship, or difficulty you wilt and become soft with no strength? Are you the egg, which starts off with a soft heart, a fluid spirit, but after a death, divorce or an accident you became hardened and stiff? Your shell looks the same, but inside you are so bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and heart. Or, are you like the coffee bean? The bean does not reach its peak flavor and robust until it reaches a certain point.. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes better. When things are their worst, you react better. When the hour is the darkest, trials are at there greatest, your faith elevates to another level. How do you handle hard times? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean? ISLESOFSTYLE / APRIL

Islam and shed it to the whole country. According to the Moroccan traveler Ibn Batuta, the person mentioned in this tale was a Sunni Muslim visitor named Abu al Barakat ul Barbari hailing from Morocco.
By : Shai
ast month we celebrated the day Maldives embraced Islam, yet there is actually no proper recorded history of how it happened. There are many stories about how Maldives converted to Islam, mostly revolving around the same characters but told in many a way.
When I was little I remember my father telling me about the story of the Rannamaaari, it was like a fairy tale, mythical and interesting to hear, it went on like this. Maldives a long long time ago was a mostly buddhist nation and its people had many gods, they were living in fear of this one terrible sea monster, Rannamaari, a sea demon that haunted the people of the Maldives since time began, which came out from the sea once a month during the night. So as an offering to please this monster a young girl was left at a isolated temple made on the beach on the first night of every month or else the people were to face its wrath, sadly to find her dead the next morning. This had to be done once a month and the people had no way of ridding of this beast. It so happened that a traveler from an Arabic nation arrived in male’ during these times of calamity, one evening when he returned to the house he was staying in he was surprised to find his tenants in a sad and mourning state. After some inquiries of what had happened he found out that a girl from the house had been chosen as the next sacrifice for this monster. He was a cunning man and he told these people to stay calm and to dress him as the girl and that he would take her place in the temple.
So as to custom at dusk he was taken to the temple and left there. It happened that after the sacrifice was made no one would dare go out of their house before dawn. So he was completely alone. And as he was a well known man he started reciting the holy Quran by heart while he was sat there in silence. So just before midnight the monster took its head out of the water and sniffed around, a smell not that of a girl but a man. The monster had come up on the beach and was not pleased at having been fooled, it was huge and gross and smelled of dead fish and the sea, the man slowly came out of the temple, and using his verses as a weapon to command the demon. He first asked the beast to grow as tall as it can and it extended itself above the clouds, he then asked it to grow as small as it can and it shrank to mortal size, the man than took out a small bottle form his pocket, he then asked it to shrink to the size of the bottle. He then asked for the beast to step into the bottle which he held out, and when it did, sealed it with a final powerful spell. A seal that is never to be broken again, it is said that the bottle was than sunk into the ocean with the demon in it. In the morning the people who came to get the body of the supposedly dead girl was shocked to see a man, coolly sitting there still reciting something, they were amazed at how he had survived the demon and took him to the sultan. It is said that from there the sultan amazed at the wonders of the Quran and how this man had used it to chase away his terrible burden, under his instructions and guidance embraced
However, the more reliable local historical chronicles, Raadavalhi and Taarikh, mention that this man was actually a Persian from the city of Tabriz, called Yusuf Shamsud-din. He is also locally known as Tabrīzugefānu.His venerated tomb now stands on the grounds of Hukuru Miski, in the centre of Male’, the capital.. As respect some people still stop and say good wishes every time they pass by the mausoleum. The importance of the Arabs as traders in the Indian Ocean by the twelfth century A.D. may partly explain why the last Buddhist king of Maldives took his decision. The king thereupon adopted the muslim title and name (in Arabic) of Sultan (besides the old Divehi title of Maha radun or Ras Kilege) Muhammad al Adil, initiating a series of six Islamic dynasties consisting of eighty-four sultans and sultanas that lasted until 1932 when the sultanate became elective. There are still many a story of the ways as to how Maldives embraced Islam, no recorded or historical evidence has been found as to the verification of these tales, and so this is the most widespread story told.
Did u know? Rannamaari is said to be able to extend its neck from the eastern seafront of male, raalhugandu area (popular surfing point in male’) and eat the leftover fish from the fish market that was situated in the same place as it is now. Other popular myths say that the raalhugandu point known for its great waves is so rough and dangerous because of the rannamaari. It is said that the bottle he was put in had been sunk near there. Some legends also say that the creature ate the sultan and was impersonating him on the throne. Rannamaari(Dhivehi) Ranna:Lit,almighty and Maari meant sea in old dhivehi.

SAVE THE SHARKS By: Shai
The Indian Ocean archipelago country is famous as a destination for tourists seeking exotic island getaways; The Maldives is a paradise for a lot of divers from around world who come to Maldives as it is one planet’s most important hotspots for species, including whale sharks and rays, two of the largest and most charis-
the of the many manta matic fish.
Thousands of tourists visit the Maldives each year just to catch a glimpse of the different types of sharks found in the waters of the Maldives. Divers who come to the Maldives in search of sharks are not easily disappointed as over 37 recorded types of sharks are found in the Maldives. Sharks (super order Selachimorpha) are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a highly streamlined body. The earliest known sharks date from more than 420 million years ago, long before the time of dinosaurs. Shark life spans vary by species. Most live 20 to 30 years. The spiny dogfish has the longest lifespan at more than 100 years. Whale sharks may also live over 100 years. The sharks extraordinary skills as predators fascinate and frighten humans; even now their survival is under serious threat from fishing and other human activities. Some of the widely spotted sharks in the Maldives are:• Whale Sharks • Tiger Sharks • Hammerhead Sharks
WHALE SHARKS Whale sharks or Rhincodon typus is the largest living fish. Despite its large size, it is not a dangerous species. It is sometimes seen by divers, normally during southwest monsoon off the east coast and during the northeast monsoon off the west coast. The whale shark being rare and endangered is a protected species in the Maldives.
TIGER SHARKS Tiger sharks or Galeocerdo cuvier is one of the most dangerous sharks. It attacks divers, swimmers and even boats. The tiger shark has the worst reputation as a maneater amongst tropical sharks.
HAMMERHEAD SHARKS Three species of hammerheads are said to occur in the Maldives. However, Sphyrna lewini is the only one that has been definitely recorded and confirmed. Large schools are observed by divers near A. Rasdhoo and a few other sites. Traditional Maldives has a long history of hunting sharks. Whale sharks were always the preferred prize with up to 200 liters of oil in their livers used by the island boat builders to seal the hull of fishing vessels (dhonies) from the elements. In 1992 it became illegal to kill whale sharks in the Maldives. The shark fishery in the Maldives came about due to the introduction of the export industry in the late 1970s, Three types of shark fishery have been carried out in the Maldives; the reef shark fishery, oceanic shark fishery and the deep water gulper shark fishery. The existing three types of shark fishery have been driven by export demand, exported products include Shark fins, shark liver oil, frozen or chilled shark and fins and salted dried meat. In addition, the jaws of large sharks are sold at the local souvenir shops to the tourists that visit the country, However local consumption of shark products in the Maldives is very limited.
Did you know? It was said that among early Maldivian fishermen it was a popular dare, to swim into the open mouth of whale sharks and come out from their gills.

In Asian cuisines a prized gelatinous soup is made from the fins of certain species. Finning involves removing the fin with a hot metal blade. Fishermen capture live sharks, fin them, and dump the finless animal back into the water. The immobile shark soon dies from suffocation or predators, a cruel and terrible process. Shark finning has become a major trade within black markets all over the world. Poachers illegally fin millions of sharks a year. As to only a few governments enforce laws that protect them. On 1st March 2009, the Fisheries Ministry announced a ban on shark fishing within the Atolls of the Maldives, lagoons and in the waters up to 12 miles off the coast of the Atolls. Currently the Maldivian government has announced their plans to implement a complete ban on shark fishing across the entire archipelago within a 12 nautical mile radius. This initiative is now in full effect since march 2010. The total ban is aimed at balancing the ecosystem and preserving the shark species, which has a negative impact on both tourism (divers) and the main fisheries industry of the Maldives. Dr Hussein Rasheed Hassan, the Maldives Minister of State for Fisheries and Agriculture, stated
“We have realized that it is more economically viable to leave the shark and other sea creatures unharmed because the country currently earns about $7 million annually from the diving industry.” Their hope is that, with the majority of tourists coming to the Maldives do so to see sharks and manta rays that such protection will help bolster dwindling shark populations and thereby generate further revenue through increased tourism. Dr. Hassan went on to say “The marine ecosystem is very fragile and that is why we have to regulate activities that coupled with the treats of climate change could adversely affect the major sources of income for the country.” The initiative is spearheaded by the government, the Maldives Whale Shark Research programme and the communities of Baa atoll and South Ari atoll, according to the Maldives Environment Ministry. However, in small fishing villages, which heavily depend on shark fishery, the locals have not yet fully observed the new regulation. Although a lot is being done to “save the sharks”, it’s up to everyone to help out in their own way.
Interesting FACTS > Sharks were here when dinosaurs roamed the planet, more than 200 million years ago. > Sharks cannot hover in the water like a goldfish and they must keep swimming forward to stop themselves from sinking. Some sharks, however, habitually lie on the bottom of the sea. > There are more than 460 species of shark that live in the world’s seas and oceans. Some sharks even live in rivers. > Sharks lay the biggest eggs in the world. > The largest shark is the whale shark, which has been spotted at over 12m long. That’s about the length of one and a half bus. > The smallest shark is the spined pygmy shark that grows to around 15cm long, the same size as a chocolate bar. > Of the 460 different kinds of shark in the world, only three occasionally attack humans, most feed on shellfish and small fishes. Crocodiles, dogs and pigs kill more people each year than sharks do. > In many species of shark, the teeth are constantly replaced throughout the shark’s life. Some sharks can lose 30,000 teeth in a lifetime. > Shark skins are covered in tiny teeth called denticles. This helps them swim more efficiently. Speedo worked with scientists to develop a high performance swim-suit that copied this idea from sharks. > The sand tiger shark pups developing inside the mother will eat each other until just one survives. This is called intra-uterine cannibalism.

LOVE AT 1ST SIGHT By: Shai Do u believe in love at first site? Well a lot of people do and sometimes it’s not always a story… During my school days, when things were easy and simple, relationships were plenty; I still remember this single event that happened to me. As we all need help in our studies, my plan was to get help from a tuition center, so I enrolled in one and it was my first day, as to my usual way I was always late and the bell had just rung for my first class, I popped in the door and had a look around before going in ,it was a really small class room with a few students, and my gaze finally fixed on this girl sitting in the front row looking at me, with her soft cute smile she caught me by surprise. Well things went from there to better to worse, my friends called it love at first sight, I just called it a small crush. Cutting things short, not to drag you with my love story, the girl came to be my girlfriend in a few days. I was finally in love I thought, she was like everything to me and I was all that she had, we were the perfect couple. But things didn’t last long, it was sweet and it was short, a typical small love story with a tragic ending. Now when I think of it, what I had called love is what I now consider as an immense liking for each other, fueled by our youth and the human nature of attraction. It was never love at first sight… So does love at first sight really exist, or is it just something in fairy tales and pop songs? Like so much about love, the question of love at first sight can’t be answered, have you ever seen someone and instantly felt attracted to every part of them, including their personality (even though you haven’t even talked to them yet)? You might be quick to call it love at first sight, but it’s probably what psychologists call the attractiveness halo effect. When you see someone who looks great, your brain sometimes jumps to the conclusion that their personality must be great, too.
YOUTH Some theories even say that we fall in love not from the first sight but from the first smell. Scientist claim that we pay much attention to what our eyes and ears tell us but on the subconscious level the way the person smells play a very big part in his or her expression on us although we don’t recognize it. By the way psychologists claim that men fall in love first. As we all have a lot of friends and hear a lot of stories. Some couples u know might say that when they saw each other for the first time, they “just knew”, to look into each other’s eyes and feel sure, that it was just love at first sight.
We all know that not everyone’s looks and personalities match up. Some attractive people are total jerks, and some of the best people in the world aren’t what you’d necessarily think of as hot. So the halo effect is really just an illusion. Your sudden feelings of love might go away as soon as you get to know the person better. Psychologists say that love at first sight depends on our psychological state at the moment, many factors act in the situation of falling in love from the first sight, our ideals, intuition or “fast logic”, imagination etc. When you fall in love at the first sight you are usually ready and willing to fall in love. Less possibility that it will happen if you are tired, stressed, solving problems in your mind. Of cause the main part in falling in love is given to the appearance, voice, gestures, even smell. One person intuitively searches in the other the qualities and the features to complete him/ herself. Research has shown two bases for love at first sight. The first is that the attractiveness of a person can be very quickly determined, with the average time in one study being 0.13 seconds. The second is that the first few minutes of a relationship have shown to be predictive of the relationship’s future success, more so than what two people have in common or whether they like each other.
Its sweet and romantic but it’s the same with everyone, but not everyone’s so lucky, they might get the same feeling when they meet each other, but it ends badly or doesn’t go anywhere at all. It’s not the first glance that makes it love. It’s the stuff that comes later - the commitment and caring that makes a relationship last. More importantly, though, the halo effect can be dangerous. If you see someone u like and assume that what you feel is love, you’ll overlook qualities in them that could end up hurting you. You might let them get away with abusive behavior because your heart has taken over your better judgment When you first see someone, you might instantly know that you want to get close to them and learn about them. As your relationship progresses, those feelings might eventually grow into love. But is “love” really the word for your gut reaction? And so the question is does love at first sight really exist?? Whether or not you want to believe in love at first sight is up to you. Just don’t go out there expecting to find it and get upset when you find something else.
Did u know? Ancient Greeks believed tat love at first sight was caused by “love’s arrows” or “love darts,” the source of which was often given as their mythological god of love Eros, well known as Cupid.
Letting go/moving on from a relationship YOU CAN CURE YOUR BROKEN HEART No matter who left who, if you loved him or her, you’re hurting. There’s no point in denying it and no future in wallowing in it. Treat the pain. RECOGNIZE THE SIGNS OF “CRAZY LOVE”
BEING ALONE IS BETTER THAN BEING IN A BAD LOVE RELATIONSHIP Yea its true, but it dosent mean you have to alone all the time.No it means you can now look for a freash new start and a new love :D.
You could be in a Crazy Love relationship without realizing it.
DON’T BE PESSIMISTIC ABOUT FINDING A NEW LOVE
Feigning suicide or pretending you’re pregnant, of course, top the list of the most obviously crazy acts, but have you spied on his or her apartment late at night? Gone through the phone looking for SMS or text from another person. Called to see if the line was busy or call was waiting. Tried to buy his or her love with expensive gifts? Done something ill- advised hoping to make him or her jealous? If so, it’s OK; a miraculous return to sanity awaits you as soon as you end the Crazy Love relationship.
It’s not as hard as you’re probably thinking. Its just around the block..only thing blocking it is you yourself. Dont think about the past except to learn from it and move on.

Why do young people take drugs? good conversation point, they are interesting to talk about and fascinate everyone. As a defensive mechanism, some young people will use drugs specifically to ease the trauma and pain of unsatisfactory relationships and the physical and emotional abuse arising from unhappy home lives.. If these problems can be addressed, before drugs are involved they can become less of a problem. Being a rebel in their natural way, whether or not part of any particular subset of youth culture, young people like to be exclusive, own something that is personal to themselves and consciously or unconsciously drug use may act as a means of defiance to provoke adults into a reaction. The use of drugs has been a rising issue in Maldivian youth cultures lately, playing a big role in its violence and domestic problems; often fights and robberies are committed with the intention of funding drug related businesses. The drug trade is carried out mostly by powerful groups and individuals that control the Maldivian black market.
THERE ARE TOO MANY REASONS WHY YOUNG PEOPLE TAKE DRUGS
Enjoyment has always been a major concern for youth, Despite all the concerns about illicit drug use and the attendant lifestyle by young people, it is probably still the case that the lives of most young people are centred on school, home and employment and that most drug use is restricted to the use of tobacco. They may adopt the demeanour, fashion and slang of a particular subculture including the occasional or experimental use of illegal drugs without necessarily adopting the lifestyle. Even so, the evidence of drug use within our youth culture suggests that the experience of substances is often pleasurable rather than negative and damaging. So probably the main reason why young people take drugs is that they enjoy them. Our Environment has its own problems too, many young people live in
communities which suffer from multiple deprivations, with high unemployment, low quality housing and where the surrounding infra-structure of local services is fractured and poorly resourced. In such communities drug supply and use often thrive as an alternative economy often controlled by powerful criminal gangs. As well as any use that might be associated with the stress and boredom of living in such communities, young people with poor job prospects recognise the financial advantages and the status achievable through the business of small scale supply of drugs. However, drug use is certainly not restricted to areas of urban deprivation. , illicit drug use is an aspect of our society from top to bottom. Curiosity plays a big role in this social problem, most young people are naturally curious and want to experiment with differ-

A country is ruled by its Government A government is managed by its different ministries and departments, and everything nowadays depends mostly on the Information technology section and how fast your computer is working. In this modern era, every little thing depends mostly on IT and is now moving on a fast pace, Many of the services are going to become online and payments and services can be managed by online portals. Customers will no longer have

to wait in that long queue for every simple thing they need.
Whats actually happening behind the walls?
In most government offices, there is little or no IT training given for staffs at the counter. So for this reason different staffs give This means that the applications information in a different way to the public. But what we have here If anyone waits at the counter for 5 minutes, right now is less than 80% uptime and anyone can realize the lack of knowledge in downtime is quite often. staffs. Why is this happening?? And how can these services improve‌and what’s the reason for all these slow services.

Customers attending certain Government offices would have to ask 3 questions and the reply from the counter is “Why don’t you talk to the Section Head”. Sometimes I wonder why they don’t put all those executives on the counter, so workflow would be much smoother, perhaps if it’s possible. A fellow IT Technician in a Government office said: “There isn’t any training given for the staffs sitting at the counter’’ And giving a blank face to the public isn’t a good idea as far as I know. I have seen staffs who knew nothing of the work done there to do things such as “Issuing Licenses, etc. “ Once I remember once when I was working as an it teck of a well known government office, a staff from the counter asked me “Hey do you know how to do this, I’d never done this?”. At that moment a customer was sitting right in front of the staff, waiting for him to finish. Then I replied “At first why did you sit here, you’re not supposed to sit here if you don’t know anything” In response he replied “My Section head told me to work here, so I’m trying to work here even though I don’t know anything” What all those IT people really do in Government Offices
But in reality is that even possible. Even though IT or whatever it comes, every office has a unique set of configurations and setup. No matter how qualified a hired person maybe they wouldn’t know the structure of the new office. How many servers are there, how the applications and servers are configured? The IT just wouldn’t improve if it is solely depended on one person. A staff who works as a “Computer Network Administrator” says that, more than 95% of the issues come from the lack of computer literacy in the end users. There are people who don’t know to do such things as sending mails, writing documents. Someone might not know how to print a document or save a file to a usb drive. So everytime something like this happens IT staff had to rush and teach them how to do it. This keeps the technical people extremely busy. The Multi-purpose Man concept When I was studying Business Communications in my Diploma program, there was this very interesting topic. According to the book, the person who has the capability to do everything and who is willing to do everything is considered the most successful employee. On some circumstances this could be true and sometimes the other way around. I had a friend who works in a office as a secretary. He told me that he knew nothing about computers when he joined the office.
The people working there were his first computer instructors even though they were not In most offices there is no such thing as really computer teachers. He was the kind an IT department. What they do is they hire of person who really likes to experiment and a person and assume the person should learn new stuff. So he wanted to learn about know everything from A to Z. computers even more.
So he did a relevant course to know more about it. Slowly he started tackling out other employees computer problems. The more he helped the more he became a part of the IT section. His actual post is secretary. Not as simple as the name sounds. Because he is the only man in the department and others are female, so he has to run around quite often. Since he was the multi-purpose man he had no time to do his real work. He has to run all over the office. There were sounds all over the office, calling to him aloud, “Hey, my computer is broken”, “Man can you pull out the jammed paper inside my printer” “Do you know this computer’s power button, I don’t know about this kind of computer” Yes. He is definitely the kind of person with all the qualities. Knows a lot, and willing to do anything. The day he is sick is also the day the department also gets sick. I asked him “Since you are involved in all the external things, who trained you”. He replied “I wasn’t given any training. The boss just tells me to do this and that. So I do whatever it takes to complete my job’’. When I was new and didn’t know what I was doing. My boss often bombed me during work and I often get caught. That’s how the training is done here” There are many issues facing our government offices now a days, services becoming slow because of no proper training or direction, so is this the way it is going to be or will these places take on better management ,improve skills for up-to-date and faster services, or will a whole country depend on just one IT man

A 3d computer generated city landscape
What’s the Difference between 2D and 3D anyway?
3d, a new dimension to the way we look, nowadays if it’s not in 3d its nothing The first concept you must grasp is that 3D means 3 dimensional and 2D means 2 dimensional. In 2D, everything happens on a 2 dimensional platform. Pictures are flat, without depth and offers only one perspective. Objects and characters are usually without the subtle soft shadows we see in real life and colors have few varying shades. In 3D, everything happens on a 3 dimensional platform. Pictures have depth and offer multiple perspectives just like in real life and have soft subtle shadows casted on the objects and characters within. In 2D, characters look cartoonish and unrealistic. In 3D, characters can look cartoonish but realistic at the same time.
Another way to think of this is to think in terms of a painting and a sculpture. 2D is a painting, and 3D is a sculpture. 3D introduces “depth perspective,” so we not only see a rectangle (2D) but a CUBE (3D). You may also want to think of it like being the difference between a photograph of a glass of water (2D) and being able to reach out and actually pick up the glass of water (3D).
3D is based on the way the human brain and eyes work. Because the pupils of a person’s eye are about 6.5 cm (about 2.5”) apart, each eye views a scene from a different angle and generates a unique image. The brain merges the images to create a single picture. In 2D, each eye gathers essentially the same information. In other words, because the image has no real depth, there is only one way of viewing it.
Typically, 2D involves “drawing,” or movement on, say, a flat surface (sketch pad, etc.) or in the vertical and horizontal planes ,Remember cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Aladdin, Lion King, (2D),
Nowadays Hollywood filmmakers and producers use modern 3d technology in their movies to create stunning visual effects and breathtaking virtual environments; u would have certainly watched Avatar’’ i guess.
3D involves “modeling,” i.e., creating objects in 3-dimensions using a computer software, residing in an expansive virtual environment, complete with lights, reflections, other objects, shadows, etc “Toy Story 1,2 , “Finding Nemo” “the Incredibles” (3D).
The slight difference between the image from the right eye and the image from the left eye allows the brain to judge the depth. Stereoscopic vision is attained.
Super Mario in 2D and 3D, see the difference? ISLESOFSTYLE / APRIL 17

PC TIPS & TRICKS
6. A command line window will appear.
7. Press any key of your keyboard. Wait for few seconds. After some time a message will pop up saying “The AVG rescue USB should be bootable now”. We all are very much familiar with Anti Virus applications and are always interested to know more about them. Well one of the free Anti Virus Application is AVG and very recently they launched AVG Rescue CD which helps PC’s infected with virus, Trojans or Malware applications to boot back again. So if you are not having any success in booting your PC even in the safe mode then its best that you try a boot CD like the AVG Rescue CD for cleaning viruses. It comes with two options: an ISO image that can be easily burned to an optical disc or a compressed version that you can install on a bootable flash drive. You can boot from the drive of your choice directly to the AVG menu and start scanning for viruses, editing files, test your drive and even edit the registry. The bootable CD is based on a version of Linux and you can access a number of common Linux tools that make changes to your system and will help it boot again.
Send 100MB Attachments through Outlook Ever wondered how you can send in a 100MB attachment through Microsoft Outlook? Well now we have a solution and it’s the BETA version of drop.io. The beta outlook plug-in released for Microsoft Outlook Express just a few weeks back helps you to send files up to 100MB attachments. It will add in two buttons in the message window, one for “attaching” files by uploading them to a new “drop” at drop.io, the other generates a unique conference call number to discuss what you are sending. Now you must be wondering how the recipient will download this. It’s simple and easy because your recipient will get the message with attachment links (Just like Gmail download links) leading them drop.io. Your recipients will have an option to review the file before downloading and to see if it is a recognizable format. This is quite an advantageous option before downloading the files on your computer. You can also add password and SSL encryption but if you want to send the files quickly then no need of this security option. Drop-io’s Outlook plug-in is a free download for Microsoft Outlook on MS Windows. Get Started: http://drop.io/file/outlook
REMOVING VIRUS & SPYWARE 1. Insert the AVG rescue CD (bootable flash drive in this case). 2. Go to the boot menu in BIOS settings. 3. Select the source (CD-ROM drive or Removable devices) you want to boot from. It will depend on the method you used to create the AVG rescue CD. In our case, we selected removable devices because we will boot it through the USB flash drive. 4. AVG welcome screen will appear. Press enter key or wait for 10 seconds to boot AVG rescue CD. 5. Accept the license agreement. 6. Run the update of AVG. You can update via internet. If internet connection is not available then you could update it from previously downloaded files (stored in your computer) from the AVG website. If there are no update files saved then you can’t update it. Proceed to the next step. 7. After updating, main menu will appear. Select “Scan” option (selected by default) and press enter key to start the scan process. 8. Choose between two options – scan the volume or scan directory. 9. Run the scan.
STEPS FOR AVG RESCUE CD (USB STICK) 1. Download AVG Rescue CD (for USB stick). 2. Plug USB flash drive in the USB port of your PC. 3. Now extract the downloaded AVG rescue RAR file in the USB drive. 4. Open the drive by double clicking on it to see all the files inside it. 5. Locate the “Makeboot.bat” file and double click on it to launch it.
10. After scanning is complete, a scan report is displayed on the screen. You can take following actions: Report file, Delete all, Rename all. So that was how you use AVG Rescue CD to boot into Windows and clean it up. The AVG Rescue CD is a free download for anybody, cleans viruses from Windows or even Linux PCs, and is a great addition to your PC repair toolkit.
Warning: Never launch this “Makeboot.bat” file from any other drive other than USB drive. If you launch it from the system drive, it will make it unbootable. 18 ISLESOFSTYLE / APRIL

FASHION Style and fashion has always been an important issue in the Maldives, popstars and celebrity influences playing a big role in a lot of popular fashion trends and fads.
Fashion is not Only For Ladies! Although it seems like only women are interested in fashion, in fact it’s a complete lie! Men are interested in fashion at least as much as women. Whenever we look at the fashion channels, magazines about fashion, or some news about fashion on the net, we always see ladies wearing fashionable clothes and walking the runways! But come on men, you should be honest; you are interested in fashion as much as women do! Women can find whatever they like in many a store. They first get an idea about what to buy, and then hit the road to stores. Let’s come to fashion for men. They usually wear suits or business casual wear for work. But when they go out, they need to be attractive in order to draw the women’s attention. Although they usually don’t accept it, men also care about how they look. The “Shopping till you drop” motto is so far away from them, so there common option is going to a few shops and looking at an outfit and then saying “all right, i am buying it!” without even trying.
Teens! They care about how they look maybe more than women. They can spend their whole day trying clothes, looking at the mirror and changing, trying another one again and so on. They generally choose walking through different shops and finding their lovely clothes. Global media like TV and internet encourages their fashion styles. It might seem a bit ridiculous, but there are even fashion clothes for children and infants. They might make parents think about it, because the clothes that you bought two months ago, will not fit your child anymore, because they grow in the twinkle of an eye.
As you see, fashion is not only a women’s sphere of interest. Human beings have been captivated by the chains of fashion! But no one seems to be disturbed and all of us having fun spending our time shopping!

STYLE RUMOR Rumor: people with dreadlocks do not wash their hair, Fact: If u do not wash your hair it will stink. Dreadlocked hair needs to be washed regularly just like un-dreaded hair, clean hair will actually lock up faster than dirty or oily hair. Btw: if u decide u no longer want dreads u don’t have to shave your head...Cutting them out will usually end up with at least 2’’inches of hair , leaving u with short hair but not completely bald.

BEAUTY TRICKS - TRY IT AT HOME By: Aiminath
CARROT FACIAL MASKS Ingredients Needed: 2-3 large carrots 4 1/2 tablespoons honey Directions: Cook carrots, then mash. Mix with honey. Apply gently to the skin, wait 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. HONEY FACIAL MASK Perhaps the best facial mask is honey. Place a cloth in warm water and apply to your face to open the pores. Smear on honey, and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, then use cold water to close the pores. Use once a week.
WHITE NAILS To whiten your nails, try these: * Use a common whitening toothpaste. Try scrubbing your nails with Pearl Drops, it’s just as easy as achieving a pearly white smile and will take away any stains and shine up your nails. * Soak your nails in water with lemon juice or lemon slices. The lemon acts as an astringent and will strip away stains. Once your hands are dry, you’ll only need to put on a couple of coats of a clear topcoat
BEAUTIFUL FEET Everyone wants to have smooth skin and Beautiful Feet If you take 1 cup Lemon Juice, Cinnamon (for smell), 2 tablespoons (or less) olive oil, 1/4 cup of milk, and water you can make a wash that leaves skin refreshed and fragrant (the amount of water does not matter). If you do not like the cinnamon smell you can replace it with another spice, perfume, or flower petals such as roses. After you make it, you can put it in a tub were you can soak your feet or body. Next dry your feet or rinse them with water and a MILD soap. After a few weeks of doing this your skin will be silky smooth.
ORANGE YOGURT MASK Ingredients Needed: * 1 tsp plain yogurt (I chose Balkan Style) * the juice of 1/4 of an orange Stir to mix and then dip fingers into mixture and smooth onto face. The sensation is both cool and relaxing. Leave on for a five minutes and then rinse. * Yogurt will cleanse and nourish your skin * The orange is full of Vitamin C and AHA’s

SOME QUICK TIPS FOR THE MODERN MAN SHAVE
Nicks, irritation, and ingrown hairs are ultimately caused by one basic thing: pressing too hard with your razor. First, never press hard, ya jerk.
Your razor slices off more than hair; it also lops off a thin layer of skin. Yum! Aftershaves are built to regenerate that skinned surface so your face can be scraped again the next day. “Left alone the skin will need more than a day to regenerate,” says Eric Malka, cofounder and CEO of The Art of Shaving. “Aftershave heals and speeds up the process so you’re ready for the razor the next morning. Skip it and shave the next day and you invite irritation.”
EASY ON THE CUT
Shave after showering: A few splashes at the sink won’t cut it; whiskers need to be soaked in hot water for several minutes to soften.
SCORE SOME SKIN
1. Brush on your shave cream:
PUT THE LOTION IN YOUR BASKET Using too many products makes you a girl. There, we said it. Just because it says men’s on the tube doesn’t mean you need to slather it on. If your dressing table holds more beauty crap than your girlfriend’s (and/or you have a dicount card at the local saloon), it’s time to pull back a bit, buddy. You don’t need serums or “collagen-boosting” masks.
Bristles exfoliate your skin and distribute hot lather better than your hands, making it easier on the blade.
However, you must slap on moisturizer after every shower and shave. It isn’t girly . It’s an investment. Making a habit of using the stuff for its intended purpose (not just your upcoming “hot date”) will help you pick up during your eventual midlife crisis.
2. Dry your edge:
DID YOU KNOW?
Razors dull from oxidation (rust), not cuttin’teeny hairs. Your reusable number should net you at least 15 shaves. COLOGNE
COLOGNE 3. Go with the grain: Forget how Dad did it. If your neck hair grows down (it should), shave down, not up.
STEAL HER SECRET Women smell so good all over because they do two things you don’t when using fragrance. Use her tricks—not her eau de toilette: First, apply cologne before dressing. Putting it on your clothes stains them, alters the smell, and shortens the life span of the scent. Next, put a small dab or half-spray on these “pulse points”: chest, side of neck, and wrists. From here your circulatory system will actually carry the scent, evenly distributing and mellowing the cologne.

What does Lady Gaga really look like?
GAGA GAGA GAGA GAGA
CELEB OF THE MONTH
If you watch her music videos you might mistake her for Christina Aguilera at first. She has the same straight white-blonde hair as Christina in her music video “Keeps getting better”, But Lady Gaga (aka Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) born on March 28, 1986,is a natural brunette, the reason she had cited for bleaching her hair blonde was that she was often mistaken for Amy Winehouse .Known for her outrageous fashion taste, She has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, the team that creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos. Some of her hit singles include ”Just Dance” “Poker Face” “Love Game” “Paparazzi” “Bad Romance” . Ever wonder how she got the name well, the similarity of her vocal style to Freddy mercury and derived from the Queen Song “Radio Ga Ga”. Every day, when Stef came to the studio, instead of saying hello, I would start singing “Radio Ga Ga”. That was her entrance song. [Lady Gaga] was actually a glitch; I typed ‘Radio Ga Ga’ in a text and it did an autocorrect so somehow ‘Radio’ got changed to ‘Lady’. She texted me back, “That’s it.” After that day, she was Lady Gaga. She’s like, “Don’t ever call me Stefani again”. —Rob Fusari

MUSIC MASSIVE ATTACK – HELIGOLAND
NEW ALBUM BY MASSIVE ATTACK Grant Marshall laid it out in Massive Attack’s Progress Report: “After 1000th Window, which was tied up with trying to be too clever, we just wanted to get back to sparse, lovely songs with simple production. We wanted to get back to the minimalist thing where you don’t have to fill the song up with shit.” That may mean sparser tunes, but definitely not a sparser cameo list: The band’s first record in five years boasts guest vocals from Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Elbow’s Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, Horace Andy, and Tunde Adibempe’s “Pray For Rain,” from the Splitting The Atom EP released as a tease to the forthcoming full-length.
“Spartacus: Blood and Sand.” Torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man. More than a gladiator. He must become a legend.
Betrayed by the Romans. Forced into slavery. Reborn as a Gladiator. The classic tale of the Republic’s most infamous rebel comes alive in the graphic and visceral new series,
Starring Australian actor, Andy Whitfield (McLeod’s Daughters) as Spartacus, Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) as Lucretia, John Hannah (The Mummy, Four Weddings and A Funeral) as Batiatus and Peter Mensah (300, The Incredible Hulk) as Doctore, this unique mix of live action, graphic novel effects and brutal battle sequences is set to make “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” an epic television event.
Books Solitaire Mystery. The Solitaire Mystery was published in 1990 and written by Jostein Gaarder, Norwegian author of the best-selling Sophie’s World. Its main target audience is young adults, but the themes of the book transcend any age group. The Solitaire Mystery has a philosophical content, but unlike Sophie’s World, it does not explicitly mention philosophers and theories, thus, the reader of the book may be unaware that he or she is actually engaging in philosophy. The book follows two seemingly separate stories.
Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he accidentally obtains the power of a Soul Reaper—a Japanese death personification similar to the Grim Reaper—from Rukia Kuchiki. Gaining these abilities forces him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife.
The series has also spawned two original video animations (OVAs), three animated feature films, seven rock musicals, and numerous video games, as well as prompted the release of many types of Bleach-related merchandise. One of the most watched animes in Maldives.
Bleach has been continuously serialized in the Japanese manga anthology Weekly Shōnen Jump since August 2001, and has been collected in 43 tankōbon volumes as of October 2009[update]. Since its publication, Bleach has spawned a substantial media franchise. The manga has been adapted into an animated television series produced by Studio Pierrot which is still ongoing in Japan as it adapts the story from the manga.
Bollywood MNIK. Animated Movie Up. By tying thousands of balloon to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Right after lifting off, however, he learns he isn’t alone on his journey, since Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years his junior, has inadvertently become a stowaway on the trip.
MNIK is a love story of a guy suffering from Asperger syndrome. In the backdrop of terror attack he travels long to find his love and prove innocence. Though almost delayed by a decade and dozen films, Karan Johar touches the nowtraditional theme of the aftermath of 9/11 and the victimized Muslim with simplicity and sensitivity in My Name is Khan .
Pixar’s second-most commercially successful film, behind Finding Nemo. It was awarded with two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score in 2010. ISLESOFSTYLE / APRIL

the most popular sport in Maldives, has F ootball, a lot of fans, a lot of players. Almost every person
plays football in Maldives, as it is an easy and simple game to play, serious players will usually go to the stadiums and soccer fields around Male, but sometimes the temptation to kick a ball on the street is hard to resist. Hence the beginning of “street soccer “, a cool and popular style of football played all around the world. These informal games do not necessarily utilize the requirements of a formal game of football, such as a large field, field markings, goal apparatus or corner flags, eleven players per team, or match officials (referee and assistant referees). Often the most basic of set-ups will involve just a ball with a street post, sandal or rock used as a goal post, three of four players to a side, and a empty street, a unique style of playing involving cool moves and fast passes ,all in a small and little place. Street football can be divided into three varieties: minor adaptations of the association football rules, games based on scoring goals and games which are not.
Freestyle is a common solo style for street soccer players with individual solo moves and cool tricks. A great crowd pleaser. With the introduction of the popular sports game ‘Fifa Street”, street soccer has developed its own style n reputation in the soccer world. The cool street style and the ease of playing explain the popularity it receives all over the world. Street football tournaments are held here and there, regional and worldwide, redbull hosted their redbull street style challenge recently, a single player free style event. Maldives also had its participants together with a lot of players from around the world
