WHAT IS ISHTA SPINAL TOUCH? Ishta Spinal Touch is a simple yet powerful technique for realigning the body's centre of gravity, which is located around the junction between the fifth lumbar vertebra and the first sacral segment. If the centre of gravity of the body is displaced then the balanced, dynamic tension of the paraspinal muscles is disturbed. This can result in misalignments of the vertebrae and joints of the pelvis. This, in turn, can compromise the nerves, leading to pain and dysfunction. Also, the homeostatic mechanisms of the body can be imbalanced so that the body's innate healing abilities are depressed. Ishta Spinal Touch assesses the position of the centre of gravity and any postural distortions. If these are not correct there is a simple technique to restore the balance of the centre of gravity and correct the posture. This frees the paraspinal muscles and, in turn, the vertebrae, nerves and the innate healing abilities of the body. As a result pain reduces and functionality increases. This is done solely through a unique muscle relaxation technique. Ishta Spinal Touch is particularly safe and gentle and has helped people with:Ankylosing Spondylitis, Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, Back Pain, Balance Problems, Depression, Digestive Problems, Fatigue, Foot Problems, Frozen Shoulders, Headaches, Insomnia, Jaw Problems, Joint Pain, Knee Problems, Kyphosis, Learning and Behavioural Difficulties, Lordosis, Low Energy, Menstrual Problems, Migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, Neck Pain, Pins and Needles, Problems during and after Pregnancy, Recurrent Infections, Repetitive Strain Injuries, Scoliosis, Sciatica, Sinus Problems, Sports Injuries, Stress Management, Visual Disturbances, Wellness Care, Whiplash Injuries and more. Ishta Spinal Touch is primarily concerned with creating a healthy, balanced state on all levels. It can therefore help people with almost any condition.

HOW IS ISHTA SPINAL TOUCH DONE? Ishta Spinal Touch is done by assessing the posture using a plumb line and footboard. In an ideal world the posture as seen at a plumb line should be as shown here:

However owing to the stresses of life we very rarely see this posture we are more likely to see something like one of these distorted postures:

During the postural assessment at the plumb line some discreet marks are made on the body to assess the degree of postural distortion, and an individual prescription is ascertained. Following the assessment we then deliver an alignment on a bench with the recipient in the prone position. This alignment is extremely gentle and evokes a deep relaxation in the body, which allows the body to realign itself and so restore the structural integrity of the body. On completion of the alignment the posture is reassessed and the improvements noted. This is one of the very few techniques that allows the practitioner to see and measure the changes of the treatment delivered.

WHY IT HAS SUCH DRAMATIC EFFECTS We are working with the body’s desire to be in alignment with the gravitational field of Earth. When we are in alignment with gravity we have the ideal posture, or to put it more correctly, we have the ‘physiologically efficient posture’. This means that the body is using the least amount of energy it needs to remain upright and healthy. Now when you consider the statement by the Nobel Prize winner Roger Sperry, you can understand the importance of good posture.

“Better than 90 percent of the energy output of the brain is used in relating the physical body in its gravitational field. The more mechanically distorted a person is, the less energy available for thinking, metabolism and healing.” Once we can begin to improve the recipient’s posture, energy becomes available for healing and all other body functions. The impact this has on the general well-being of a person is unlimited. Why do we become posturally distorted? Well this boils down to the effects of our 21st Century living. We are subjected to so many stressors and quite often on a daily basis. Any stress, whether it is physical, emotional, mental, chemical or nutritional, can create an imbalance at the centre of gravity of the body. Once the centre of gravity becomes imbalanced then the postural muscles have to adapt to correct the changes at the centre of gravity. Over time this leads to postural distortion and its ensuing demands on the body leads on to pain and disease. The question all the above raises is:Are you ready to have such a remarkable impact on your client’s health and well-being?

Tutor Training A tutor training program is also available for suitable candidates. This training is delivered by us in the UK and it is run in conjunction with Dr. Rosquist.

Allyn Edwards worked for the National Health Service for fifteen years as an Immunologist. He followed his obsession with the body's ability to heal itself by training as a McTimoney Chiropractor, and graduated in 1990. He eventually became the senior practical tutor at the McTimoney Chiropractic College in Oxford and was responsible for training the chiropractic students in the technique for six years. During that time he was also the lecturer in Chiropractic Philosophy. Once he discovered Spinal Touch and trained with Dr. LaMar Rosquist, he realised that this was the most simple, elegant and powerful way to enhance the body's own innate healing abilities he had yet encountered. Since then he has been promoting and teaching Ishta Spinal Touch in the UK and Europe. Sue Weller graduated as a McTimoney Chiropractor in 1989. Since then she has built three thriving practices. Prior to that, Sue, a science graduate, taught Biology and Chemistry. Sue taught at the McTimoney Chiropractic College for seven years. She was involved in the practical training of the students and progressed to become the Principle Practical Tutor. She was responsible for the overall practical training program of the college and for two years was actively involved in the accreditation of the Chiropractic course. After training as a Spinal Touch Tutor with Dr. LaMar Rosquist she has been running seminars and promoting Ishta Spinal Touch in the media.
