Night Ski Show by the Silvretta Galtür Skiing & Snowboarding School

At the Night Ski Show, the skiing instructors will be presenting a colourful programme based on a wide range of snow sports. This year will again feature a very varied programme including the Paznaun Freestyle team and a fire + LED show by “DAS SPIELVOLK“. The Night Ski Show by the Galtür Skiing & Snowboarding School impresses with its diversity and offers ever ything the heart could desire from traditional wood sledges to skiing on stilts. The demo team will be performing formation rides and there will also be a flag parade, a kicker for daredevil jumps and some other treats. If you want to know any more – you’ll have to come and see for yourself!

Night skiing in Galtür

Skiing by night – what winter sports fan doesn’t dream of doing that? If you find a day’s skiing in Galtür to be too short, there is also a very special offer available: night skiing before the magnificent backdrop of the 3,000 m peaks in the Silvretta region. Night is transformed into day every Wednesday in the Galtür ski resort. The illuminated 2.2 km night skiing pis te attracts guests of all ages. The floodlit piste is as light as day yet with a very special ambience.

Racing on staves

During this race, long wooden planks taken from barrels are used as skilike equipment. The “stave skis“ are then attached to the shoes with leather or plastic straps. Only street shoes are permitted – no ski boots! Venue: on the Gampele alongside the Sport and Culture Centre Start 8.30 pm

Whether a beginner, professional, freeriding enthusiast or ski touring beginner – the wide range of off-piste offers available in Paznaun is truly unrivalled and offers the perfect challenge for every ability level. Narrow gullies, wide deep snowy slopes with a moderate gradient or steep descents dotted with cliffs with a gradient of up to 50 degrees – we offer off-piste fun for everyone!

Even when there is fresh new snowfall, deep snow fans will find pristine runs to keep them amused. The best ski guides in the region ensure that surfing the fresh powder snow is always a risk-free and unforgettable experience. Freeriding courses for beginners and professionals can be booked at all ski schools in Paznaun, on request.

Ski tours

It’s perhaps the most original form of skiing: conquering the mountains on foot, wearing skis covered in fur. Skiing downhill is a real treat as you make your mark in the deep snow. Ski tours are a must for mountain enthusiasts and people who want to experience the Alpine winter up close, away from the well-trodden trails and busy pistes.

For those wishing to experience the fantastic high Alpine landscape, there are various comfortable mountain lodges offering overnight accommodation for longer excursions away from the pistes. A day ski tour in Paznaun is a unique experience and can easily be extended. There is an endless array of possibilities for challenging yourself and your body and pushing yourself to the limit while being in harmony with nature. Whether you are sporty, prefer to play it safe or want to learn or gain a taster of how to climb the mountain on fur-covered skis, you can count on the experienced mountain guides.

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country holidays in Paznaun are based on a unique offer with exceptional service and top quality. This includes service-oriented infrastructure for accessing the main trail and cross-country courses for beginners, advanced skiers and ambitious crosscountry skiers. The offers provided by the quality tested cross-country establishments form the optimal basis for a holiday on and off the cross-country trails.

The 73 km network of trails provides cross-country skiers with the opportunity to practise all styles in the winter landscapes of Paznaun and up to an altitude of 2,036m. In addition to classic style, there is also a wide skating area available. And best of all – use of the cross-country trail in Paznaun is free.

All of the trails are described and depicted in the “Cross-Country & Winter Walks“ folder complete with a “Kompass” map. This folder can be obtained free-of-charge from the tourist information offices or direct from your accommodation establishment.

Winter hiking

A winter walk is the perfect way to enjoy some peaceful moments in Paznaun. The ideal way to take a break from everyday life, let your thoughts run free and relax. The slow pace of walking and tranquil natural environment, shrouded in white, are stimulating. The network of hiking trails extends over 60 km and runs from an altitude of 1,060 m up to 2,036 m.

As soon as you put on the ice skates, you will find a smile spreading across your face as you are reminded of your childhood: ice-skating makes you feel like you are floating and gives you a care-free child-like sense of freedom . The elegant sport is also a great alternative to skiing and snowboarding .

There are three ice rinks for winter sports fans to choose from in Paznaunin Galtür, Ischgl and See .

And for those who don’t want to limit themselves to classic skating, ice hockey and curling are also offered .

A snowcat will take you from Silvapark up to Zeinisjoch . A varied ski route takes you across the “Ganifer” to Partenen . Hop on the Vermuntbahn cable car to get to Trominier . From there, the tunnel bus takes you to Bielerhöhe . After a short descent, the snowcat takes you back to Galtür/Wirl .

Tasty food and drinks in a picturesque environment: The Paznaun region is a paradise for those who enjoy the good things in life. Whether you prefer traditional, modern or creative dishes: The culi nary highlights served at the region’s mountain huts and restaurants are varied and delicious.

A gourmet treat: “Paznauner Almkäse” is something like the region’s signature cheese. It is made from raw cheesemaking-quality hay milk and is used to prepare many traditional dishes. The flavourful moun tain cheese’s defining characteristics are its light yellow colour and its distinctive holes. It takes eight weeks for the cheese to mature and to become one of the region’s most famous culinary delights.

In addition to its special natural features, Paznaun is also home to a wide range of chapels of cultural and historical interest dotted across the numerous villages and hamlets in the valley. ALPINARIUM GALTÜR

The Alpinarium Galtür is an exhibition space of the special kind. The impressive documentation centre on life in high-alpine regions is a central component of the 345-metre-long and 19-metre-high avalanche protection wall. The fascinating permanent exhibition “GANZ OBEN – Geschichten über Galtür und die Welt“ (“AT THE VERY TOP – stories about Galtür and the world“) focuses on those who left Galtür to explore the world as well as on those who came to the village from far away. It is also a constant reminder of the tragic avalanche that hit Galtür on 23rd February 1999.

We also recommend the following special exhibitions:

• “GALTÜRER ENZNER” (“Galtür gentian”): interesting facts on the special Alpine plant that grows in the region, the Galtür gentian (also called “Enzner”)

• “Eine Liebeserklärung ans Paznaun” (“A declaration of love to the Paznaun”): an impressive presentation of the Paznaun by prestigious valley doctor Walter Köck including his take on the people of the region

Skitest Sport Walter: for the daily hire price of € 19.-.

Native American Day: From 11.20 am, there is a Native American party with make-up, costumes and great music in Bambiniland.

Barrel-stave ski race The fun race starts at 8.30 pm. Long wooden barrel staves, known in German as “Dauben” are used as skis. The wood is attached to your shoes with leather, or sometimes even plastic straps. Fixed, screwed straps are not allowed. You can only participate wearing normal shoes – no ski boots!

Wednesdays

RAUCH family race: Sign up by Tuesday evening in the mountain lift office or at the ski school Silvretta Galtür. The grading takes place from 2 to 3 pm. Families must consist of at least 3 persons, one of which is a parent. Great prizes are awarded at the end of the season.

Photos on the speed run: Free photos are taken on the speed run in Sector 03 from 10.30 am to noon. Set your personal best and pick up your snapshot from the office of the mountain lift at the village square from 3 pm.

Intersport Wolfart ski test: € 10.- off every pair of PREMIUM skis for day tests

Adult ski race: Snowboarders and skiers can put their skills to the test every Wednesday. The fastest will be rewarded with a winner’s trophy. Register at the ski school Silvretta Galtür.

Nighttime skiing: From 6.30 to 9.30 pm, we turn night into day.

Night ski show: The Silvretta Galtür ski school instructors present a varied programme from the wide range of snow sports. The dates are as posted.

Thursdays

“Siggi’s Alphabet Hunt“ stamp game: All children can join in this fun stamp game every Thursday. On the pistes, behind the trees…and where the team from Silvapark Galtür managed to find a nice little place. Find the hidden panels and stamp the letters on your stamp card (available from the cable car office and the ski school). Once you’ve found all the stamps, you’ll have discovered the right password. From 3 pm there is a little surprise from Siggi for all those who have filled in their stamp cards.

PIEPS guiding: Meeting point: 11.45 am at the ski school assembly point. Registra tion and information at the ski school office – 4 people or more. An introduction to avalanche awareness, reading snow profiles, the proper use of avalanche transcei vers and probes – everyone is welcome!

Fridays

Kid’s ski race: Meeting point at the ski school assembly point. Register at the ski school office. Every Friday it’s like the Olympic games here. With electronic timing, an awards ceremony with musical accompaniment, medals and trophies.

The Sunny Mountain ski area

Thanks to its altitude location, the family-friendly ski area of Kappl ensu res snow-assured fun on the pistes with sun-drenched ski runs. Cover ing a total of 25,000 m², the Sunny Mountain adventure park has nume rous attractions to get children’s eyes sparkling. As well as an extensive area for children and beginners, the park has childfriendly pistes and several comfortable conveyor belts up to 200 metres in length. Away from the prepared ski pistes, the ski area in Kappl opens to pro vide a real paradise for freeriders, with countless powder slopes and a breath-taking mountain panorama. The Open Faces Freeride competi tions have certainly contributed to this, as well as the freeride junior world championship, where young riders show their skills.

Snoocing

Have you heard of snoocing? This fun activity is not to be confused with snoozing, the daily struggle to get up in the morning. During snoocing in Kappl, you whoosh down the mountain with a revolutionary sports device called a snooc. No prior knowledge is required to ride the hybrid vehicle between a sledge and skis. Please note that snoocs can only be used on the children’s run and the sledging run.

Good to know: Snoocs can be rented at Sunny Mountain Restaurant during regular skiing hours and on sledging nights.

They look just like ordinary mountain bikes but with extra wide tyres of 4.0 to 4.8 inches and a diameter of 30 inches, which make them perfect for riding in all kinds of terrain, including sand and snow. To improve grip, they have lower tyre pressure as well. The experienced guides of the Silvretta Bike Academy will show young and old, rookies and pros what’s important when fatbiking. Sledges can be hired from the local sports shops. The routes encompass some exciting twists and turns and lots of fast sections. The toboggan runs are open daily in suitable weather conditions.

“Schräge Vögel fliegen nicht!” – a comedy in two acts by Andreas Holzmann

Andreas Holzmann‘s play “Schräge Vögel fliegen nicht!“ (“Weird birds don’t fly”) will have everyone at Trisanna-Saal-See bursting out with laughter. The comedy is set in Kohlberg, where a new village doctor is needed. Things start to get complicated when a testament turns up, requiring the former owner of the doctor’s surgery to be married. Otherwise, the public building housing the surgery and a pizzeria will pass into the ownership of Kronberg Abbey. To prevent this from happening, mayor Hutegger urgently starts an online search for a man who is willing to get married. Which oddballs will he find during his quest, and will there be a wedding in the end? Watch the comedy in two acts to find out!

When dusk sets in, the varied entertainment programme at Medrigalm starts. At 7.30 pm, the first cable car takes visitors up to 1,966 metres above sea level, where they can enjoy the following:

• “Night Show” of See‘s Ski School: The Freestyle Team and the ski school kids of See Ski School present the history of skiing “Vom Ursprung bis zur Moderne” (“From the beginnings up until today”). Duration: about 30 min

This exciting snowshoe hike starts at Medrigjochbahn valley station in See . The cable car will take you up the mountain, to the starting point of the hike . A gourmet treat: “Paznauner Almkäse” is something like the region’s signature cheese. It is made from raw cheesemaking-quality hay milk and is used to prepare many traditional dishes. The flavourful moun tain cheese’s defining characteristics are its light yellow colour and its distinctive holes. It takes eight weeks for the cheese to mature and to become one of the region’s most famous culinary delights.
