Arrangement of the hiking- & mountain trails Mountain trails

Hiking trails (easy) max. 13 km

max. 400 metres altitude (m)

... paths which are located in the settlement and the adjoining forest area. Hiking trails are in principle signposted walking routes which can generally be accessed during periods when there is no snow and ice; they are intended for pedestrian use. They are wide and have only slight inclines/slopes. Sections of the route which are very steep and where there is a risk of falling are appropriately secured (e.g. railings). No specific knowledge is required to tackle the hiking trails. Sturdy footwear and clothing which suits the weather conditions is all the equipment you need.

... paths which are located outside the settlement, which start for the most part above the forest line and provide access to the Alpine and high Alpine area. Mountain trails are walking routes in Alpine and high Alpine terrain which are predominantly narrow, often steep and which may be exposed. They have specific requirements with regard to mountain knowledge and equipment. There is additional information provided about the difficulties and the risks involved. The additional information may be shown in the following ways on mountain trails:

They are comprehensively signposted, narrow, steep in sections or throughout, and partly exposed. There may also be short secured walking and climbing passages. These are sections which might require you to use your hands. These paths require experience of mountaineering when the weather is bad and should only be tackled by mountain climbers who are sure-footed, have a good level of endurance and suitable mountaineering equipment.

By staying calm you increase the injured party's chances. y Check the injured party's vital functions regularly. y Make conditions as comfortable as possible (bivouac). y Use the time to build up trust between the injured party and yourself.

y Keep providing the injured party with information with regard to what is being done for them and what is happening. y Speak positively to the injured party and provide support through body contact (even if unconscious). y Draw attention to body functions which are functioning. For instance: "Do you realise that you are breathing calmly and evenly?" y Request assistance during activities as required. y Always be truthful. Innocent lies with regard to something like help will be arriving soon or with regard to state of health will be seen through and will weaken that all important, lifesaving bond of trust the injured party has with the person looking after them. y Ensure that each uninjured member of your group gets involved with looked after the injured colleague. Give them clearly defined tasks which they can cope with, and keep an eye on the situation.

Galtür - experience the mountain! Galtür is different. And it has always been that way. When you come to Galtür today and take a look around, you would hardly get the impression that this village has been a place for tourism for 120 years. There are no hotel towers protruding into the skies. Far from it; it's no accident that our village looks so different from other holiday destinations. A pristine village set in pristine natural surroundings – Galtür remains true to this way of thinking even today. Experience the mountain in Galtür - in all its beauty!

Hiking in the Silvrettaand Verwall mountain ranges Galtür is the highest lying town in the Paznaun region, at 1600 metres. 250 kilometres of hiking trails and 27 Alpine lodges, support points and Alpine lodges provide unlimited hiking adventures. The hiking area in Galtür chiefly comprises the Silvretta and the Verwall mountain ranges. The Silvretta mountain range with its 74 three-thousand metre mountains and its large amount of glaciated mountains is certainly one of the most wellknown mountain regions in the main central alpine ridges.

Mountain climbing with Galtür‘s mountain guides 'Bergführerbüro Galtür' - Galtür's mountain guide office came about from the long tradition of mountain guides. The tours are carried out by state approved mountain and hiking guides. Safety and optimum supervision predominate at the mountain guide office. If required Galtür's mountain guide office can provide you with all the alpine equipment you need such as climbing belts, rope, ice pick, crampons, carabiners etc., free of charge. Galtür Alpinarium The Alpinarium is an exhibition and documentations centre to the high Alpine area. It is the key element of an 345 metre long and 19 metre high avalanche protection wall and impresses with its unique architecture. The exhibition „AT THE VERY TOP - stories about Galtür and

the world” tells about the relationship between the Alpine village and the world. Those who want to experience even more or new things, could pay a visit to one of our via ferratas or to the bouldering area:

BALLUNSPITZE VIA FERRATA, 2,671 m Lovely, rugged via ferrata equipped with state-of-the-art safety equipment. FAMILY VIA FERRATA 'LITTLE BALLUN', 2,050 m The newest addition in Galtür is the family friendly via ferrata, which is perfectly secured and suitable for kids from 8 years. BOULDERING AREA SILVAPARK, 2,000 m At the foot of the Ballunspitze there is one of the best bouldering areas in Tyrol, with 175 boulder tours in every difficulty level.

... on Paznaun‘s sunny balcony! Mainly located on the sunny slope of the lower Paznaun the individual towns of the district of Kappl are scattered around far and wide. There are a total of 90 little hamlets – which are very small villages – surrounded by the impressive mountain ranges of the Verwall-, Samnaun- and Silvretta mountain ranges, which are up to 3000m in height, and these are what make Kappl a special area. The hamlets are situated away from the through roads, at 1200 and 1500 metres altitude. More than 90 km walking, hiking and mountain bike trails come together in these idyllic mountain ranges and Alpine pastures, which are up to 2,500 metres altitude. Even with 5,000 guest beds Kappl has succeeded in retaining its typical village character. Maintaining the look of the village and keeping the natural surroundings in great condition has always been important to the people who live here. At every turn the summer visitor will come across key evidence of the Kappl's mountain farming past, relics of old, wooden implements for managing the slopes, which are very steep in parts, brick ovens and unusual tools. However it is not just for craft purposes that Kappl people use their skills. Crosses and wayside shrines and also a variety of chapels are also evidence of the deep religiosity as well as the artistic

capability of the people here. It was also the Kappl people who provided the town with its original name 'ad capellam'. However, time has not stood still in Kappl and landlords have been aware of the need to constantly make changes to meet their guests' needs, and investments and improvements to what they offer has meant that Kappl is a comfortable, lovely and relaxing place to holiday.

See in Paznaun The dispersed settlement of See is located on the right side of the valley. It is made up of a large number of groups of farms and hamlets, and the main town of See-Au which is much like a ribbon-built village. The valley floor was at one time covered by a lake, hence the name of the town. Originally the area of what is See today covered the Alpine floor of the municipalities of Serfaus and Fiss. In the 13th century farmers from Serfaus and Fiss established the settlement in See. In 1433 the town was first mentioned in documents as a district named "Ze dem See in Pacznawn" (= "zu dem See im Paznaun" - to the lake in Paznaun). Due to the settlement until 1792 See was a part of the jurisdiction of Landeck (later Ried) and until 1630 of Serfaus parish. At that time the dead had to be carried across Furgler Joch to Serfaus graveyard. In the war year 1809 the Paznaun Guards and 120 women and girls from See in Giggler Tobl prevented 1500 Bavarian soldiers from invading the valley. Two famous artists were born in See. Sculptor Andreas Thamasch and painter Mathias Schmid.

The current parish church was built in the 18th century. Its location at its elevation are impressive. The building next to the church is listed and was refurbished in an exemplary manner in 1981.
