The 2030 house Supersurfaces as an alternative model of living SAIC MArchIA - Interior Architecture Thesis - 2014 Recent architecture addressing housing design fails to consider today’s human lifestyle and the future of it. The 2030 house pops the bubble life by integrating the architecture with digital design, creating a new way of interaction between each other, a new lifestyle with endless possibilities for space and conditions. As the link between virtual design and physical architecture becomes stronger, this relationship creates new virtual and physical dimensions. When new technological dimensions are created, how can they be used for innovation and problem solving? It is possible to REIMAGING the interior space divisions and the components of design such as “walls and floors” among others and its functions.

Concept

Expanding the bubble, so it disappears

2030

house The lifestyl e o f the n e a r f u t u r e

PROJECT IDEA: A single-family house that allows people to create a new form of social life bursting their virtual bubble combining virtual design and physical architecture, redefining the envelopes in which humans live. The relationship between the space and its function will be given by the inhabitant. The architecture of the house will be modifiable. Its appearance will change totally or partially in accordance with the will of their inhabitants. RELEVANCE: Contemporary domestic life happens in a ‘bubble’ largely defined by digital technology. These ‘bubbles’ can be transformed by redesigning the human behavior through architecture.

Bubbles

Individual virtual inner-world, Isolated Culture ‘Bubble’ as the Individual virtual inner-world, the envelopes that we are surrounded with. Bursting the bubble means the realization that there is no outside and inside, the recognition that there is distinction in unity and there is unity in distinction but at the end we are part of a bigger membrane, a bigger bubble so big that we don’t notice it anymore and it disappears.

Relationship with technology Bringing the computer into the real world

Re-imagining the Merchandise Mart School of the Art Institute of Chicago - Studio IV

The Merchandise Mart is one of the biggest buildings of square footage per floor in the world. Is a building with history whitin the city and its relevance today and the communication with the citty has been lost. This project is about re-imaging the Merchandise Mart by using all its location potential and improving its connectivity with the outside by embracing the river and the local bussineses.

Exploring, through physical models, the potential of the first three floors of the Mart and its spatial relationships and connections. Making the city come into the buiding and gone throught it.

The first three levels of the Merchandise Mart acting as a node, conecting the city from north to south, and east to west. The multiple plazas in different levels act as a connection between the train station and the river

New architecture floating between old structure. Plazas, balconies and terraces play a key roll in the spatial connection of the building

The project seeks to embrace the river with plazas and spaces for outside activities. At the same time, creates a new front to the restaurant gallery, duplicating the activities from the street to the Mart

Pilsen = Structure, Agency, Gesture SAIC - Studio III Conceptual Models

Cultural center in Pilsen, Chicago. The concept of the project is to connect the activities that are happening around it, acting like a Node, creating path across the site. Designing a non aggressive architecture. An architecture that allows you to be part of the project at any time in different ways. Creating interior spaces for the people in Pilsen that add value to the daily life of the community.

International Airport USB - Architectural Thesis 2009

The idea of the project was to design an airport capable to respond to the needs of the country and the city. Designing a sustainable airport that could function without air condition in the 70% of the spaces.

Location

This building is located in front of the roundabout that receives and dismisses the visitors to the city of Puerto Cabello, Vzla. The Project

Puerto Cabello, Venezuela

was designed next to the existing airport and using the current airplane track.

Master Plan

Big structure that generates a dynamic space for the user, in both, the reception volume and the waiting room space.

Light coming through the roof, creating an uniform shadow. The study of the light was a key element into the design of the building.

Archaeological USB - Design Studio IX - 2008

Museum that serves as both, an exhibition and teaching space, including art galleries, work spaces, library and conference rooms.

The Connector Is proposed as a link between the buildings currently built and proposed buildings creating an specific way to unite spatially, architectural and artistically sectors that occurs to be sub-dividing the campus.

The project was design under the concept of a box of glass where the connection between inside and outside is present all the time. The design seeks to create a building with an interesting internal spatiality that is capable of giving the feeling of lightness and transparency to illuminate the central space with natural light

The general idea is that exhibitions occur inside closed solids which give the sensation of being suspended. The circulation inside the museum is given by ramps to the outside, or stairs supported by supporting walls in the inside. All main working activities occur on the ground floor, where the space has the potential of expanding to the outside.

The architectural project is a response to an open call National Public Competition for the International Complex for Social Action through Music its urban environment. A volume where the boundaries are blurred thus opening the surrounding landscape is proposed . The main deisgn elements in the proposal are : a podium or entrance plaza, which acts as an integrator between the north-south boulevard and park; the various schools that make up the system, organized way of perimeter rings; and concert halls , protected in the center of the building.

Social and cultural exchange within the facilities is maximized by the creation of spaces that flow naturally, the interface with the environment , as well as the overlapping of different networks activities that happen within the complex. The building facade also provides for the incorporation of art to architectural - urban scale, in the tradition of artists in our modern urban spaces and buildings as Otero Soto and Cruz -Diez

The project idea was to use the ground floor as a reception area for visitors where the double height space gives hierarchy to that space and also gives the opportunity to observe the important of the stair’s element.

As a design element, a wall was used as sculpture to separate public space and an open space for all workers. In the second floor is the company’s president’s office and the meeting room. Both rooms have the possibility to go outside where there is a wooden deck with view to the city.

what gives character to the space inside the house. Fine lines of solid wood (cedar) and glass, in some cases are made of wood and free spaces.

The design of these iron doors is determined by customer demand. With this design we push the limits of technology and creativity to make a 20 ft height door both light and practical for a house. With empty interior spaces and other solid spaces for security so that the door was not too heavy. Also, we had to design a special lock for the thickness profile of the door.
