TOM RUKAVINA MEMORIAL BRIDGE AND BRIDGE VIEW PARK: VIRGINIA 

The Tom Rukavina Memorial Bridge is a 200’ tall bridge that spans the historic Rouchleau group of mines. Mining in this area ceased in the mid 1970s and the three-mile wide canyon that remains has filled with groundwater. The bridge is open to motorized vehicles as well as pedestrian and cyclists. From Bridge View Park, you can see this amazing structure from a distance and learn about the construction of the bridge itself.

FINNTOWN OVERLOOK: VIRGINIA 

Walk through a 50-foot caged safety bridge into the historic Rouchleau group of mines. This group of mines began as underground shafts, producing over 300 million gross tons of iron ore before closing in the mid-1970s. What remains is a scenic canyon that is nearly three miles long, a half-mile wide and 450 feet deep. Access at the east end of Third Street in Virginia.

Please call 218-749-8161 to schedule a tour.

This private residential home has been lovingly repainted and restored to look as it did in the days when the Zimmermans owned it. The homeowner doesn’t mind cameras from the sidewalk, but please be respectful. Zimmerman’s former home is located at 2425 Seventh Avenue East .

House,

Around here, you’ll find mining trucks with big boxes, but not very many big box stores. Instead, you’ll find plenty of indie shops that carry a variety of carefullycurated wares. Visit the range area art galleries to bring home something truly unique.

For the complete low-down on the best places to grab a bite across the range, find our restaurant guide at area hotels!
