residental design: re-coding homes

"Re-Coding Homes" is an experimental methodology that is being applied for the research project funded by TUBITAK and ITU BAP and it is also the topic of Interior Design Studio I. The aim of the study is to analyze the relation

of the new settlers that they have with their homes and the problems with it. The studio process is divided in two phases. The first phase for students is to understand the current state and the grounds of students need to analyze the context of the materials and location. In second phase, working as individual focusing on the one spatial unit (living room). Based on flexibility and affordability. affordabilit This methodology considers human-family-neighbour relations regarding Turkish structure values. The studio work is published as a book in 2016. In this design concept, people are able to use drawer systems in varied ways. Drawers can be used for sleeping, storing, studying and so on. A furniture can respond to dierent activities of users in their daily times. at the residence.

2 In phase 2: the project is based in

the living room. People like spending their time in the living room, according to research. people get to socialise with family members. One of the common

activities is sitting, so mainly the design has furniture for sitting. Furniture has become a response to dierent activities in a ‘modular system’. When it is needed, users can change the space in various ways.

Furniture has a major function

in the living room. It can be used for

space-saving purposes and leisure activities. The design oers the user to have

the possibility of both comfort and exibility.

reuse project: parkour

Parkour is called as a mainly outdoor sport. Basic rule is to exceed the obstacles

and move. Parkour users have free movements and circulations in a space.

The place where is for parkour sport, was a

bazaar in Ottoman times and a trading centre. As an adaptive reuse, nothing is changed to have originality and boundaries. It has 9 domes, beams and arches. First approach for the project is to create streets in the concept. Challenge is that it takes parkour to indoor from outdoor. Environmet of the spacehas streets with the same character images in a space. So concrete textures, graďŹ tti walls, green areas and wooden furnitures are located in a space. Parkour users have free space in higher levels and they can touch the dome and have free moves. Other users, visitors, can have an experience in a space to watch parkour sport.

exhibition design: peratexture

People get different influences, when they observe the surfaces of the environment. These influences create moods in human’s psychology and senses.

The textures of the surface and the space communicate with human’s body by giving various experiences.

Visiting the exhibition, even if people get some images from their lives, people turn out to get abstract influences from their usual lives. In the space, The partition elements are the texture walls. The texture walls begins with narrow pathway. As people walk in further, the texture walls become wider pathways. As last part of the exhibition, The walls take place in another space and turn as a furniture element. People can lay on it and watch the video performance which is unusual image than city people’s life. The walls, after being a furniture, they leave the space from the stairs to the bottom floors as an installation. This process collabrates with human’s huma psychology and senses.

How to advertise the exhibition in the city? Another phase of the project is to make an advertising in the city.

The concept of the exhibition includes human’s senses and psychology. Mainly, users get different feelings via installations (textures). The same idea can be converted to be as an advertising tool in the city. Istanbul generally has some points where

people are in rush, angry and

nervous etc. In these points via installations of the exhibition for the advertising, people can have different and good feelings. As examples, these points are considered to be police stations, airports, metro stations, squares and tax offices. It means basically Consequently, crowded areas. Consequentl these installations are used for both advertising and relaxing tools. Firstly, I asked to people when they have bad feelings, what could help them to relax? In general people response: beating exploding squeezing these acts help them. Regarding with these acts, an

installation is chosed for the portfolio. It is ‘Bubble Wraps!’. These wraps for exploding bubbles and having fun in a square.

library design: ‘open’ library

The basic idea consists green wall, long axis and

sustainability in an interactive way.

Thin walls and vides create new volumes in the interior and inviting areas.

Final concept brings the new definition of the library in terms of using for different users. Clear plan and organization provide users with accessibility. Building is in historical site. For the redefinition the building, both historical and modern elements were implemented with the combination of nature and building’s environment. The process of the project mainly followed via model application.
