City of Fargo The City of Fargo, ND is seeking qualified candidates to establish a hiring pool for the position of Assistant Fire Chief-Fire Marshal. The successful candidates will possess a Bachelor Degree in Fire Technology, Leadership, Business Administration, Safety Engineering Technology, and ten years of progressively responsible firefighting, prevention and investigation experience, three years of which includes experience in a supervisory/management role or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. A valid driver’s license is also required.


The Fargo Fire Department is a progressive department consisting of 117 employees. The department is accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The Assistant Fire Chief-Fire Marshal provides coordination, administration and oversight to the city-wide fire prevention program. Recommends policies, performs planning and supervises inspectors responsible for carrying out inspections of local businesses. Organizes and assigns fire prevention objectives for both the fire suppression and fire prevention divisions. Responsible for interpreting the fire code and making recommendations regarding amendments, etc. Supervises and coordinates fire investigations. Oversees and conducts all formal plan reviews. Serves as the department spokesperson on fire inspection and investigation matters and serves as the Public Information Officer at large events. The Assistant Fire Chief-Fire Marshal reports to the City of Fargo Fire Chief.
