Fu and Li have without doubt got that fluency, having astoundingly never failed to achieve at least a third place finish in the competition. Despite a nervy showing in the final, the new team of Orcullo and Gomez looked to have found the formula also, evident in the exuberant celebrations and chest bumping after their draining hill-hill triumph in the semi-finals over the Taiwanese duo of Chang Jung-Lin and Ko Pin-Yi, a result that left a dejected Chang in tears in his seat post-match.

Mixed fortunes throughout the competition were found in the efforts of Team England and Team Germany, seeded 4 and 5 respectively. Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann were the 2010 German pairing and for those out-of-the-know, a match seemingly made in heaven. For more learned pundits however, Souquet and Ortmann do not have a history of being the best of chums and much of the pre-tournament hype was centred around this. The pair put their troubles to one side in Manila though and came close to a final berth, only going down to the eventual champions China 9 - 7 in the last four. The in-form team from England faired less favourably, Karl Boyes and Daryl Peach fell across the line in the last 32 against Qatar only to go out in the next round to Stephan Cohen and Francois Cottance from France, 9 - 6. A disappointing finish for England considering the four world titles this pair share. England can at least take solace in the fact that major contenders such as Philippines A and USA fell at the same last 16 hurdle.

Final 10 : 5 Philippines B Along with Team China, the big winners were yet again the huge Filipino China crowd, shamelessly cheering a miss by anyone other than a hero of their own but as always embracing any winner on their own turf as a new member of the family. After Roberto Gomez's spectacular collapse in Manila at the 2007 World Pool Championships, where the pressure of the home crowd was too much then, this must have seemed like a chance for closure. It turned out to be the same old story, now begging the question; can any Filipino superstar other than Efren Reyes or Francisco Bustamante live up to the 'Manila Mob's' expectations?

Although Lawrenson looked cool and calm throughout the match, the former European Junior Straight Pool Champion could not live with Appleton's sheer consistency at the table. 'StraightShooter' Appleton is fast stepping out of brother Darren's shadow as a force to be reckoned with in his own right. Some superb shot making and decisive safety from 14-14 saw Appleton take the money and the plaudits in this emotional encounter.

'The Daddy' proved his worth in this match to take down money match specialist Craig Dixon, handing him his first reverse for cash in over a year. The match was fast paced and of considerable quality, with neither player seeming to be able to get the stretch on the other. When it came to the crunch on this occasion though, Dad found a slightly higher gear to edge out Dixon and continue on his winning streak after claiming the Predator UK 10 Ball Open the weekend prior.
