IPACK-IMA 2009, an international stage for technology, products and projects.
The figures of IPACK-IMA 2009 leave no doubt as to the high profile of the exhibition, both as a chance to showcase products and services and as an opportunity for the international community of industry professionals to exchange and discuss ideas. Its international prestige and exhaustiveness have earned IPACK-IMA 2009 the honor to host the international conference “More Technology, Safety & Quality, Less Hunger”, promoted and supported by the Italian Government through the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy and the Ministry of Economic Development, in addition to UN agencies: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), World Food Programme (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Another outstanding initiative carried out during IPACK-IMA is “Plan the Future. Packaging is quality of Life” in cooperation with CONAI, the National Packaging Consortium, with the objective to ensure visibility to packaging innovation, including research and recycling. The initiative involved Universities, Associations and Research Institutes concerned with environmental sustainability issues and included meetings and round-table discussions. Also, the communication activity produced very interesting results using traditional tools and focusing on customized marketing actions. 650 industry professionals involved in road-shows in North African and Eastern European countries. 120 delegates coordinated by ICE* from 25 countries. 309 journalists from 28 countries. 50 articles published on 38 Italian trade publications and websites. The data on visitors published in this fact sheet is the result of a research conducted during IPACK-IMA 2009 by NETS, and independent research institute. Accuracy range is +/-5%. IPACK-IMA 2009 and the industries it represents boast excellent performance. IPACK-IMA focuses on food and non-food markets and is the reference event for technology dedicated to grain-based food: bread, pasta, pizza and pastry. There were as many as 1400 exhibitors with a strong international presence (403) from 35 countries. The number of visitors shows a dramatic increase (+ 8% compared to 2006 and + 20% compared to 2003) touching the 54,000 notch in 2009. IPACK-IMA attracts visitors from 116 countries. In 2009 international participants are about 13,500 (25% of total), of whom three out of four are from Europe. Participation of visitors from Eastern Europe grows considerably. For international exhibitors IPACK-IMA is a key event to get a foothold on the Italian market and to reach that 59% of Italian industry professionals visiting only IPACK-IMA among the major trade exhibitions worldwide. 34% of visitors at IPACK-IMA 2009 is made up of company owners and top managers; 83% has decision-making power or has influence over corporate decisions. 84% of industry professionals visit IPACK-IMA to learn about the latest innovations and 61% to find new suppliers. 96% of visitors and 87% of exhibitors have expressed a good opinion about IPACK-IMA 2009.

IPACK-IMA is not just one of the most important showcases worldwide, through which providers of technology and materials for processing, packaging and material handling exhibit their products and services; it is increasingly taking on the role of a business platform for a community of industry professionals seeking new solutions, exchanging ideas, receiving market updates and reaching partnership agreements. On the global arena IPACK-IMA is the natural stage for the excellence of made-in-Italy products, but it is also one of the most important events for all major international market players. Their presence ensures the exhaustiveness of the display and make of IPACK-IMA a key event for the entire production cycle. In 2009 there were 403 international exhibitors, accounting for 29% of a total of 1,400 participations.

IPACK-IMA displays every phase of the production cycle and offers integrated solutions for product processing, packaging and material handling. The main focus of the exhibition is technology and materials for packaging and processing, displayed by 32%, 20% and 18% of exhibitors respectively. The wide range of products and solutions on display is able to fulfill a great variety of needs and has been appreciated by the majority of visitors.

IPACK-IMA is also the reference event for all market players working in the food industry: 58% of the technology on display is dedicated to this segment. Figures show the growing importance of products dedicated to grain based food*; this segment is represented by 17% of exhibitors in 2009 compared to 14% in 2006. Additionally, IPACK-IMA is the world’s only showcase of technology for the processing of dry pasta: IPACK-IMA is the place to be for all international buyers looking for solutions to process and package grain-based products. IPACK-IMA is the key event also for the non-food market, with 42% of the display dedicated to pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and cleaning products.

A KEY EXHIBITION FOR 59% OF VISITORS
Visitors at IPACK-IMA are constantly growing in number: 54,000 at the 2009 edition, a 8% increase compared to the 50,000 visitors at the 2006 edition and 20% more compared to 2003. In spite of a rather unfavorable economic situation worldwide the industries represented at IPACK-IMA have shown their ability to attract a growing number of buyers from all over the world. In 2009 international visitors touched 13,500 coming from 116 countries, accounting for 25% of total.
The Italian economy is mostly made up of small-to medium-size companies. They also represent 63% of visitors at IPACK-IMA. For both Italian and international exhibitors, the event is a unique chance to meet these market players, who only visit IPACK-IMA to learn about the latest market updates and to purchase new products. 59% of Italian visitors at IPACK-IMA state they do not attend any other international exhibition. IPACK-IMA is also greatly appreciated by multinationals and large-size companies: 20,000 companies with more than 50 employees visited the exhibition, 1,000 more than 2006.

Figures show a significant number of visitors from Eastern Europe: over 3,500 in 2009, a 37% increase compared to the 2006 edition and almost twice as many as in 2003. The exhibition also attracts industry professionals from the Middle East and North Africa, accounting for 11% of total. In conclusion, IPACK-IMA has a strong appeal for all market players working in the Mediterranean Basin.

As shown by the graph on the left, visitors have unanimously expressed a positive evaluation on the range of technology on display. IPACK-IMA is a great international showcase for innovations both for food and non-food industries; 84% of visitors state they visit the exhibition looking for new products, while 61% seek new suppliers; overall, visitors feel they have reached their objectives.

The survey conducted on exhibitors at IPACK-IMA 2009 shows that 87% are satisfied about their participation in the exhibition, and their overall evaluation is positive.
Equally, the survey shows that exhibitors are also satisfied about the contacts and sales generated by their participation: over half of exhibiting companies have drafted or signed contract agreements during exhibiting days, and 69% expect to increase their business over the following months.
