The FLEC Flyer | February 26, 2010 | Week 28 Message from the Principal . . . Dear Parents, Greetings! One can hardly believe that Spring Break is “upon” us. Where has the 2009-2010 school year gone? Recently, at Wednesday night Prayer Meeting, we were encouraged to present to God our “monumental” challenges and allow Him the opportunity to answer them accordingly in our lives. To wait upon the Lord as He performs amazing miracles in our lives. I invite you to join me in presenting to the Lord your “monumental” challenges and await the blessings that He has in store for you today! Thank you to our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers, as well as, the marvelous volunteers that assisted in presenting our annual FLEC Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Preview this past Thursday. It was a delight to see 90 plus 4 and 5 years olds discovering our campus for the first time. I was very fortunate to be on campus Thursday evening to see our eighth grade students dressed in their finest. What a beautiful sight! Thank you to our eighth grade teachers and especially Renee Schultz. Mrs. Schultz invited our students into her home for their pre-banquet hors d'oeuvre after which they continued on to Heathrow Country Club to enjoy their eight grade banquet. Our seventh grade classes took an overnight trip to the Lowry Park Zoo and Tampa Aquarium on Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you to our seventh grade teachers, Mrs. Rose Thomas and our parent chaperones for their generous and willing participation. Without their assistance, this trip would not have been possible. Next week is Spring Break. We will dismiss at noon on Friday, February 26, 2010. There will be no lunch served. School will resume on Monday, March 8, 2010. I pray that you have a safe and restful vacation! In closing, our Administrative team is always here to serve you and your children. Please find below our contact information. Do not hesitate to contact any one, or all, of us if you have any questions or concerns. Blessings, Janet Ledesma

Please watch for more information after Spring Break. Thank you. MISSING A pair of eye glasses and case disappeared from the basketball court on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 – If found please return them to the front desk ASAP. The glasses have a black frame and say “Body Glove” on the side ear pieces; the case is black with green neon letters. If you know anything about these missing glasses please help them find their way back to their owner. 7th GRADE LATIN AMERICAN MARKETPLACE Date: Thursday, March 18, 2010 Time: 7:00-8:30 p.m. Place: FLEC gymnasium Come and learn about our Latin American neighbors to the south! Student groups will give you a “taste” of the cultures of 15 different countries to celebrate their most recent unit of study. MATH CLUB UPDATE A while ago, some students were invited to be part of a math club based on their math grades. The invitation was extended to students from grades 3 – 8. While a few students from the different grades responded, only 4th grade had enough students and parent helpers to form a club. We moved on with the 4th grade club and the volunteers and students are having a fantastic time! We do thank the children from the other grades who responded and we regret that they couldn’t be part of the club this year. It is our hope that we would have more interest and volunteers to include other grades next year. We will inform you of our math club plan during the next school year. FOOD ALLERGIES On behalf of our students with food allergies, we are requesting that if you are hosting, sponsoring a party or sending food to school that you label foods that contain nuts, peanut oil or peanut butter. As a school family, we have put controls in place to continue to make FLEC a safe place for all our students. HELP OUR TEACHERS!

Many classrooms are being disrupted between 2:45-3:00 p.m. and we need your help. It is our desire for teachers to utilize class time effectively and would like to request that disruptions be kept to a minimum. Also, if you would like to see a teacher we ask that you wait until after dismissal, call or e-mail for an appointment. The FLEC Receptionist is happy to deliver messages, lunches, books and papers to your child. Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter. DISMISSAL Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to the classroom door at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, you can meet your child as the class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping the teachers utilize those last minutes of the day. Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As you turn into the school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5th through 8th grader riders) and the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-K through 4th grade and multi-grade riders). Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor and practice patience. Safety is our number one concern. Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely complete dismissal in 30 minutes or less from when the dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not be sent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up. PLEASE REFER TO PREVIOUS WEEKS FOR INFORMATION ON OUR H1N1 PROTOCOL AND FLU. CELL PHONES The FLEC Handbook states: “Cell phones must be powered off during school hours: 7:50 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 7:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. They must not be visible during class, in the halls, or anywhere on campus during school hours.” There will now be a $25.00 fine for any cell phone visible during the school day. Students can use school phones with teacher’s permission and parents may leave messages with the front office if they need to reach their student.

DEVELOPMENT REPORT You hear a lot about giving in the community, the churches need money, FLEC needs money, our kids are doing fundraising for various things, not to mention all the causes around the world, such as the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Before you give up in frustration, saying you can't help everybody, please consider these two quotations: “The world and life have been mighty good to me. And I want to put something back.” - Ted Turner “You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” - Zig Ziglar Now, prayerfully reflect on your own life and ask God to show you where He wants you to make a difference in thankfulness for all the good life has given you. Remember, if you want to begin supporting FLEC in a more specific way than you have before, with time or gifts, give me a call: Dan Tilstra, 269-208-1111 or email tilstrart@gmail.com. I’m always ready to talk.
