RECONCILE THE RIGHT TO THE CITY AND TO ITS NIGHTLIFE

PROCESSES RELATED TO URBAN NIGHTLIFE WERE SOCIOCULTURALLY APPROACHED AS BEING OPPOSED TO COMFORT AND SAFETY, AS FIELDS OF EXCLUSION. Since we are kids we learn that leaving the house during the day is different from doing so at night. They are different symbolic fields. However, in a large post-industrial metropolis such as São Paulo, the urban distinctions between day and night should slowly begin to be reevaluated so that the right to the city may also be broadened to include the city after sunset. One of the issues which best brings to the fore the discrepancy between the access to the city during the day and at night is URBAN MOBILITY. The infrastructure for the circulation of people during the day, even with its insufficiency and overcrowding, is substantially more significant than it is at night. The subway system in São Paulo works until midnight. On Saturdays it’s open until 1 am. When there is alternative bus service
