I am pleased to report that there have been several outstanding, multi-award winning entries including AND Pastel in Turkey by AND Gayrimenkul. This impressive mixed-use development achieved no less than five accolades for various elements of its redevelopment and design. Zlota 44 designed by the renowned architect Daniel Libeskind in Warsaw, Poland won a total of four awards. Stretching 192 metres tall, 52 storeys high, it features 287 superb apartments and is the tallest residential tower in its class with in the EU. In the United Kingdom, Redrow Homes scooped awards for 11 different residential projects across 10 areas of England, while Dandara took nine awards for eight residential projects spanning Scotland, the Isle of Man and Kent. The award-winning companies listed in this publication have proved their expertise in each respective field by competing against extremely strong competition from within the UK and Europe regions.    centre of the Austrian city of Salzburg, Rehrlplatz is a mixed residential and commercial development encompassing 5,655m² in a very prominent location. The design was opened in 2011 to anonymous competition with 26 national and international architects participating. The jury was composed of representatives from the Salzburg architectural advisory board, the expert commission of the historic centre, city administration staff and independent jury members. The final winning design was by Storch, Ehlers Partner from Hannover in Germany. The aim was to create a vibrant, innovative development with a diverse combination of

different apartment sizes and layouts whilst also incorporating high quality office space, medical practices and retail areas. Winding through the development are open spaces and greenery. Salzburg is a city rooted in history, and the design of Rehrlplatz reacts to the surrounding urban buildings – from the traditional period buildings in Arenbergstrasse and 19th century neoclassical Grunderzeit villas to a nearby 1980s hospital complex. The result is a development that makes use of varying heights, angles, openings and greens to bring modern architectural tropes to a setting spanning multiple eras. Silhouettes of historic buildings are echoed in the facades of the new.

The apartments feature open kitchens, large roof terraces and many different layouts to create a sense of individuality. A metropolitan feeling is engendered through high-quality, smooth renderings with a warm and friendly character. Large windows create airiness, making the most of light during the course of the day. Flooring choices include custom oak in the clients’ choice of colour and exclusive tiling in bathrooms and corridors. Underfloor heating creates warmth and a cosy feeling throughout while smart home systems bring technology to the fore. Bathing areas are fitted with hardware and plumbing from Duravit and Dornbracht. In the lobbies, staircases use Artico, an Italian white granite that blends brightness,

modernity and sophistication. Two storeys of underground parking provide ample space for residents, with elevators directly to each floor. The penthouses require specific keycards, ensuring security. Sustainability was a watchword in construction, utilising the superior heat and sound insulation of stone wool throughout. This maximises thermal efficiency and is a carbon-negative material that recovers the energy used for manufacture in just a few days. High quality window installations also contribute to energy efficiency. Rehrlplatz will bring a breath of fresh air to Salzburg, attracting modern families and owners to this contemporary and desirable development.

Barco one Campus


-E A is a global practice established in 1960 offering a complete range of related services. The company has been hugely successful in winning awards for the following five projects. ‘Artesis’ is a new iconographic campus for 3,500 students. It includes houses, nine halls, 49 standard classrooms, 57 specifically equipped classrooms, 12 computer rooms, a 900m library and a cafeteria. The location formed an important influencing factor on the design as the project literally nestles in its surroundings. The slope of the adjacent Park Spoor Noord is part of the public domain but also covers the private areas of the campus. The building therefore ‘slides’ underneath the park slope, creating a layered urban spatial experience. The overhang of the volume above the park slope safeguards its open perspective and at 25 metres at its widest, is completely column-free. ‘Barco one Campus’, a new headquarters building for Barco visual technology company,

has been given international appeal by JaspersEyers Architects. This circular, transparent icon will serve as a connective element for the tech giant’s employees and visitors. It spans 75 metres in diameter and 25 metres tall and has a surface area of 30,000m. In addition to office spaces, Barco one Campus also houses research and development spaces, a demonstration space, an auditorium, and a company restaurant for the 1,500 campus employees and international visitors. It serves as an important central point as well as the connective element between the various parts of the site. ‘Toison d’Or’ has become a new urban icon in the centre of Brussels. This ultra-modern complex with nine floors above ground and four floors underground provides over 13,000m of commercial space and 15,000m of contemporary residential units. The architects integrated different functions in a carefully considered way, so that the project creates enormous added value, both of itself and in relation to its surroundings. The organic

contours of the enormous V-shaped portals which extend across the facades constitute an important part of the structure whilst also functioning as a visual element linking the lower commercial levels to the residential floors above. ‘Tour Paradis’ is a 52,947m administrative centre especially designed for the Ministry of Finances and allows for more than 1,100 people to work effectively in one location. The 136-metre high building accommodates 28,700m of office space and 9,600m of various spaces, some open to the general public, 20 front offices, various meeting rooms, a restaurant and archives. While the Tour Paradis has been ideally designed to accommodate a single occupant, the architects have also created a flexible real estate

investment that could accommodate a series of smaller occupants in the future. The 30,000m² office building for the European Parliament had to comply with the regulations of the Blue Book of Europe. The building needed a fresh architectural expression, it had to integrate well with its surroundings and to perform well above average regarding energy consumption. Integration with its surroundings was the greatest challenge for the building as there were different demands on all four sides. Architecturally, the dynamic expression of the entire complex was the main focus. This is reflected in the curved volumes in play with the ratio between open and closed parts of the façade, depending on the orientation and the entry of light into the building.

  , Duomo is a wellestablished architecture and design company based in Verona, Italy. Its award-winning interior design project relates to a private residence located near the village of Forest Town in the suburbs of Moscow in Russia. The client required an outstanding design for the spacious property in which he would host many guest receptions. The house is on a 35,000m plot of land and has a living area of 570m. It features a separate house for guards and other staff, a guest house, spa, tennis court, lake and forest park.

The building’s facades were inspired by the heritage of the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki while all interiors were created under influence of the architecture of Veneto, a beautiful region in North-East Italy, and villas constructed by the architect Andrea Palladio. All elements of the interior design were chosen and made according to the vision and direction of the architects at Duomo. These important features included everything from sculptures and the decoration of walls and ceilings to decorative moldings and forged metal products.

-O   were inspired by the Radisson Blu hotel group’s motto, ‘iconic, stylish, sophisticated’, when commissioned to rebrand the hotel Radisson Blu Leogrand Chisinau. The main design criteria was to integrate the new corporate identity while preserving the characteristics of the existing building, formerly known as Leogrand Hotel & Convention Centre and constructed and owned by SUMMA. The award-winning renovation and restoration project involved an eight-storey building with 16,000m of enclosed space. The areas for redesign included all 143 rooms and suites, three restaurants, a pub, wine shop, spa-fitness and beauty centre, six meeting rooms and a convention centre. Tumer-Onaran carefully blended its design

process with the client’s wish to preserve the successful elements of its existing branding as well as the hotel’s public recognition level locally. Therefore the company adopted the key phrase ‘embedded memories hidden in a contemporary approach’ throughout the renovation process. While some material selections and the colour palette refer to previous perceptions of the hotel’s interiors, other design factors add strong, contemporary impressions by redefining the lobby, all day dining and bar area. Favoured elements of the previous Leogrand have also been preserved such as the ‘wine harvest’ painting, stained glass art works and the main layout of the function areas to great effect. Striking a transitional balance between the old and the new has perfectly matched the client brief.

Established in 2001, the company has brought together talented architects and designers who endeavour to make design and construction an enjoyable and exciting experience for clients. Gilpin Hotel & Lake House are owned and run by the Cunliffe family in the heart of the Lake District. Purchased 29 years ago by John and Christine Cunliffe, Gilpin has now grown into an internationally recognised luxury five star hotel with a Michelin starred restaurant. Gilpin’s expansion over the last 15 years has been overseen by the couple’s son, Ben Cunliffe, founder of the aforementioned architectural practice and estates director at the hotel.

The principal requirement of the brief for the award winning lodges was for striking, unique and innovative accommodation of the highest standard. Coupled with the need for more spa facilities at Gilpin, the concept of developing lodges, each with their own individual spa treatment area was born. The challenge was to ensure the five lodges felt part of the hotel and its grounds, whilst providing an aesthetic that would prove contemporary, elegant and low-key. The lodges adopted a simple Yin and Yang form with softly curving walls ensuring a natural cohesion to their meadow setting. The façade materials are reflections of the contextual landscape ensuring the visual impact of the lodges is minimal.

-  designer Sarah Jane Nielsen is known for creating incredible bespoke spaces. With extensive experience both in the UK and overseas, the Lake District-based designer has gained international recognition for her work on hotel and hospitality, government and residential schemes. Sarah’s signature style blends the classical with the contemporary and her consistent delivery of stunning designs that combine sophistication with practicality caught the eye of the Gilpin Hotel’s owners 15 years ago. The partnership has flourished and over time the hotel has undergone a series of development and rejuvenation. Sarah’s latest brief was to take five secluded luxury spa lodges to a new dimension, with the interior design playing a critical role in creating a comforting cocoon which would provide the all-important wow factor whatever the season.

The selection of individual designs for each one set out to maximise the unique Lake District setting to deliver, both indoors and out, a feeling of wellness and ‘escape’. Each was to have its own distinct personality providing discerning guests with a choice of décor according to personal preference and an interesting option of selecting a totally different experience for their next visit. Internally, there was to be a large bedroom and a distinct lounge space, both designed to take advantage of the stunning views. A convertible spa area was to be incorporated into each lodge with treatment beds stowable out of sight in the wardrobe area. The bathroom was to be divided into two distinct areas, separating the spa with sauna and hot tub from traditional bathroom facilities. The ultimate result overall has been the provision of a fully immersive guest experience.

  , ophistication and contemporaneity, the architecture and design company, SAARANHA&VASCONCELOS (SA&V), is characterised by its uniqueness and creativity. Its award-winning project involved the interior design of a new villa close to the ocean and surrounded by nature, just outside Lisbon in Portugal. The client had lived abroad for many years but now wished to return to Portugal and build a house to become her family home. Being a highly demanding and sophisticated lady, she wanted to have exclusive, private areas where she could rest, contemplate and reflect. Social areas were also required where the family could host their friends within a luxurious, comfortable and refined setting.

There are three main highlights of SA&V’s stunning design for this property due to their size, grandeur, harmony and richness of materials. The vast, double height entrance hall is the most spectacular area of the house with floors worked in four different marbles – white Sivec, Portoro, Royal Gold and Rouge Langdoc. A staircase connecting the two floors is in white Sivec marble giving both grandeur and lightness while the stair guards and gallery are in black lacquered iron with applications of stainless steel and bronze details. In terms of the entrance hall’s decoration, modern materials have been mixed with antiques to create the distinct SA&V look. Forming an excellent example of this signature style, there is a table with an acrylic top and a base made from part of a 17th century altar. On the ceiling there

A pair of Italian chandeliers from the 19th century, candlesticks and burners in bronze from different periods adorn the dining table. The master suite bathroom is equally stunning with walls and flooring in white

Sivec and Portoro marbles complemented by a chandelier in black Murano glass with abat jours in black silk, as in the bedroom suite. Niches and a vaulted ceiling are finished in gold leaf while shades are in ivory linen with an application of anthracite silk. A dressing table and stand in black glass features details in bronze and a bench positioned close to the bathtub is in ivory leather with feet of polished stainless steel and a central application in bronze. The company’s award-winning architectural project Skolkovo Park for Living followed a commission by its client, Zarechyedevelopment LLC. It is a premium class,

club-type residence located at Moscow’s southwestern border. The development’s site is in the vicinity of the Skolkovo Innovation Center – the newest science and education city. The architecture of its campus is varied, bright and ambitious and interacts with the lyric landscape of the small Setun River. This relationship, as well as the spirit of innovative solutions for functional tasks, was expected to be reproduced in a new way in the Skolkovo Park for Living estate. The client wanted to create a premium class complex for 442 units, which would distinguish itself through its signature architecture. So, not only did the project need to be in the character of ‘villa suburbana’, but also the highest comfort level had to be attained in a large scale formation. This contradictory task promised the emergence of a special form of dwelling

and a specific architectural typology – both of which were completely in tune with Zarechyedevelopment’s interest in contemporary architectural aesthetics. The unique natural setting was undoubtedly the factor that inspired Skolkovo Park for Living’s whole design process. The smooth contours of the landscape were an invitation to follow them without any abrupt intervention. The intuitive desire to avoid orthogonal geometry also accompanied the birth of the project. The building is approximately 700 metres long at the outer line, while the general geometry of the complex is based on the curve which consists of three joined arches with different radii. This configuration allows a calm response to the relief and emphasises its natural character. Five gaps interrupt the curve,

opening the homogenous inner space of the complex towards the riverside. The contrast of the closed inner space and the wide panorama of Moscow and the Innovation City is yet another characteristic feature of the complex. Thanks to its configuration, this structure is able to form these ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ spaces of the complex, each with its own sounding. The unique geometry of the bay windows regulates the view and lighting conditions and creates an impressionable play of shadows on the facade. Mathematically clear architecture is supported by delicate landscape design. Tiny individual gardens, a green amphitheater and isolated from noise inner crescent with large trees allow residents feel in touch with surrounding nature. Suburban, monumental and sophisticated, Skolkovo Park for Living fully responds to both its place and time.

The requirements for the award-winning property ‘Marbesa 272’ was to create an openplan living and dining area, an impressive American-style kitchen, large terraces, a spacious master bedroom and three guest bedrooms. Located in an urban area of Marbella in the heart of the Costa del Sol, inspiration came from houses which Carlos Lamas has recently designed in the area. Signature elements include natural white stone, floor to ceiling windows and solid, deep porches.

This modern concept with its straight lines and flat roof meets client and purchaser demand and blends harmoniously into the surrounding urbanisation of Marbesa. This complex of individual plots ranging from 700m² to 2,000m², features properties built with traditional and local materials. Originating in the 60s and 70s, over the ensuing years international residents have gradually preferred more eclectic styles. The client chose this overall design option as the covered areas created by the large porches do not take up any of the maximum building area. The most challenging aspect of this project was to change the building’s use radically while retaining its character and charm. Open, space efficient interiors have been created within the apartments, inspired by elegant 1920’s style and include every comfort. Norra Tornen is unique in Stockholm as it offers a rare opportunity to live in the city as well as above it. Having inherited two building shapes, each of different heights, Oscar Properties has transformed a once formalist structure into apartments that are surprisingly informal.   , Exclusiva Design is an Italian company specialising in architectural and interior design. It is a place for creative thinking where artists, style and technique specialists, skilled carpenters, expert decorators and master craftsmen meet and interact to create unique works, tailored to the client’s dream. Exclusiva’s award-winning project involved the interior design for a new, six-storey, 11,000m² business centre for Gazprom Neft in St. Petersburg, Russia. The key words for its contemporary concept were innovation, energy and movement. Everything, from the choice of materials to the definition of each element of furniture, was conceived exclusively to respond to a precise objective and an elevated degree of customisation.

Each one of floors has a specific purpose, the first being a striking entrance for visitors, operative areas from second to fifth levels and a CEO area for the top floor. Among the unique design elements, the workstations were studied and custom made in Italy, while the team of artists painted, carved or decorated with resins and liquid metals over 200 art pieces. An enormous project, it succeeds in combining aesthetics, function and design. Biodynamic lighting design, decorative experimentation and an innovative study of ergonomics and the use of space complete the framework of an in-depth research process which focused on achieving the exceedingly high levels of performance requested by the client.

The first is Avalon, a high-rise development which is unique not only for Lviv but also for Ukraine. Given that the city is renowned for its pristine architectural heritage, the architect’s task to fit it seamlessly into the existing urban landscape was a difficult one. However, the policy decision was that the new building should be ultramodern without citing past decorative architectural techniques. The only principle akin to the past is the variety of design apparent in the building’s façade. This proved a novelty in the region as well as in Ukraine and, together with many other factors, resulted in Avalon residential complex

comparing favourably with others in the context of investment attractiveness. Avalon Lux is a 10-storey apartment building in the centre of Lviv with a commercial zone on the ground floor for use by its residents. It also has a two-level underground parking facility and additional outside parking spaces for guests. A pool, children’s playground and tennis court add to the project’s amenities. Each floor accommodates eight apartments, all with spacious terraces overlooking the park or city centre. Externally, the building’s architecture has a distinct silhouette, expressive character and rhythm, provided by an alternating broken line of terraces around its perimeter.

Kostarelos, the renowned Greek cheese and dairy company assigned to Stirixis a new deli concept for its chain in the Greek market and abroad.  K I is an Istanbul based interior design studio which draws inspiration from the architecture and context of the building as well as its clients’ specific requirements. The first of the company’s two latest award-winning projects is Panavia Residence. This modern duplex home has a 340m living area including terraces overlooking Istinye Bay. As Manhattan is the birthplace of loft living, Esra Kazmirci’s talented team decided to emulate this specific, contemporary look. Materials mostly used to great effect throughout this project are marble, bronze, painted oak and glass. Different lighting elements have also been incorporated to create a harmony between wall lamps, surface

and recessed mounted spots, floor lamps and suspended lights. Bebek House is a fully renovated 300m penthouse apartment with a full view of the Bosphorus. Esra Kazmirci removed all the interior walls to redesign the entire layout taking into account the single male owner’s priorities. His brief was to create a masculine, spacious, sportive and stylish place where guests would feel comfortable. Colours such as grey, black and anthracite have been used throughout as a suitably masculine palette with dashes of colour from carpets and accessories adding a touch of variety. Bronze-detailed legs on the coffee tables combine elegantly with bronze mirror and noma black marbles while the extensive use of dark grey mirrors serves to expand the space.

C I D  C S specialises in interior design but also relishes the opportunity to work on architecture design projects. The company has won two awards relating to the renovation and landscape design of a traditional mansion in Kandilli, Turkey. Situated in an exclusive location in the Bosphorus hills, it overlooks Istanbul’s two bridges that connect Europe to Asia. The primary target for both H2C and the client was to return this badly dilapidated historical building to its former splendour. It also had to meet the modern day expectations of its residents without compromising its aesthetic and architectural style. Contrary to many of the renovated houses in the region, this mansion

gave very little information about its original form. Its rear façade had been demolished, the front façade was degenerated and the interior had been improperly sectioned over the years. Following detailed research and a broad vision, wooden building construction techniques were used to follow the period’s architectural style. The property’s 4,500m of land has also been restored with the same loving care. H2C has installed various levels of terracing for different uses to mirror the original garden’s period design. Extensive formal and informal planting, impressive water features, an arched stone lodge surrounding a fire pit and a large swimming pool have been carefully implemented to create a haven of peace and tranquility.

 H D & Interiors has won two awards for Konforist Edu.Suites for Boys located in Eyup, Istanbul. Based on two blocks of buildings, it offers students their own private space and optimum social opportunities. Each of the 112 custom-designed suites is furnished with closets, desks, kitchen niches and bed compartments. The main goal of the project has been to make every student feel at home. This has resulted in some rooms being designed in a more luxurious manner to include a living room, fully-equipped kitchen and terraces. Common areas are designed to promote socialisation through the provision of a café, gentlemen’s club, barbecue terrace, hobby

kitchen, study room, computer room, mini cinema and Playstation room. A game park also includes table tennis, billiards, pinball and darts, while a crossfit area has a gym, sauna, massage room and infirmary. Externally, the window casing is made of bright colours while each public area has been given its own positive concept. Even the laundry facility features an amusing slant with comic hero names awarded to the washing machines. As all students have the potential to become future lawyers, doctors and CEOs the café features chairs depicting famous influential people such as Tesla, Gandhi and Einstein. This signifies that every student has the power to change the world for the better.

  W, Poland, Tremend opened its architectural and interior design studio in 2011 by Magdalena Federowicz – Boule. The company has won awards for two of its latest hotel interior design projects. Ibis Styles Budapest City involved the renovation of an existing hotel, including all rooms, conference and common areas. The Ibis Styles brand is based on the concept of storytelling which, for this particular hotel, revolves around cycling and the culture surrounding bikes. Inspiration for this main theme was found within the city of Budapest itself where cycling is hugely popular. The storytelling runs throughout the hotel and consists of many fun parallels, such as bike bar stools, computer stands with bikes instead of seats and lamps inspired by bike lights.

Novotel Wroclaw Center in Poland is the result of a renovation of the 1960’s Hotel Orbis Wroclaw for Accor Hotels. Tremend based its design concept on leaving the raw wall finishes open to show their concrete construction, basing the interior design around an industrial theme. By working closely with Paris Accor Hotels’ design department, Tremend created a space where everything revolves around the central bar, while also providing interesting areas for work, play and relaxation. The selected furniture is classic in design with muted colours, natural materials and simple shapes. This creates a cosy atmosphere which remains flexible for various settings and uses. Tremend is currently working on the revitalisation of an old car factory, changing it into an exhibition complex with hotel and office space, the extension and modernisation of railway stations in Poland, a new generation shopping mall and Mercure hotel.

  I, Turkey, Sistema Teknolojik Yapı has won awards for three of its latest projects. Erdemir Group Headquarters consists of 10 floors, covering 13,000m². Extensive research shaped the building’s design to suit its 309 employees and corporate culture. The reception area includes metal materials referencing the company’s business while an open office concept is adopted apart from coordinator rooms. The first basement floor is dedicated to the Erdemir Academy which consists of two seminar rooms and a conference hall. This dynamic training zone features corporate colours and strong branding images. The main design concept for Zumamma Café & Bakery was to create a homely atmosphere for those working in the neighbourhood. The

cafeteria has been designed and constructed by Sistema Teknolojik Yapı over an area of 320m². It features both preparation and service areas, with a full glass façade to provide optimum daylight. Varying styles of seating caters for different customer preferences while tall bookshelves cover the walls. Limak Yatirim Office serves the company’s board members and approximately 90 employees of its management team. The 2,000m² area on the fifth floor of Istanbul’s Zorlu Center is based on the parallel zoning of two parts, the VIP and operational areas. Spatial zones include offices, meeting rooms, support and circulation areas with secondary spaces such as meeting rooms and support areas amongst the circulation zone creating an optimum integrated office.

   has presented an impressive total of seven award-winning projects across eight categories. The interior design for Piyalepasa Istanbul Show Home reflects its exterior’s vernacular style of Selchuk and mostly Ottoman architecture. Marble is the most dominant material and this has been applied in almost every room. The Piyalepasa Mosque near the project’s site, inspired and encouraged iki design group to include marble, timber, large, dark coloured tiles, golden and copper tone metallic details and geometric features. Rize Mix is a mixed-use development where residents and locals can gather to enjoy social activities and shopping. The residential high-rise tower within this project is specially designed to provide views of the Black Sea wherever

possible. Since the city of Rize is renowned for its black tea production, tea leaves were the key inspiration for the tower’s design. Resembling a tea-flower, Rize Mix forms an iconic landmark. Vadipark Seyrantepe Office II consists of two circular office buildings with retail units at the ground floor and parking for 329 vehicles on the basement floors. All facades are designed to be open to both the site’s natural surroundings and the direction of the city. Although the architectural form is rectilinear, the architectural moves follow a special design discipline with different layers and heights.  D  a London-based interior design practice which provides clients with a complete service, encompassing everything from the initial concept, instruction and supervision of builders through to the final touches. The company’s award-winning interior design was for a three-bedroom flat with a stunning view of London’s Tower Bridge in the famous warehouse conversion Butler’s Wharf. The clients brief required an exciting, spectacular and luxurious space for entertaining guests. The project took a year to complete and included a full reconfiguration of the both the floor and electrical plans plus bespoke furniture and finishes. As the ceilings were quite low, the original lay out was rather dark and

claustrophobic and so more open space was created to allow light to fill the spaces. The living room was highlighted with rich burgundy hues, smoked glass and dark accents while the bedrooms feature stunning pops of colour and pattern with bespoke wardrobes and upholstery. It was important to Maisha that each element in the design followed a subtle continuity. This has resulted in every area having its own theme yet being connected to others through its beautiful custom-made furniture, brass and smoked glass. However, the main features of this apartment are the illuminated alabaster bar and the copper and brass marble bathrooms. These are true works of art and elevate the apartment to a higher sense of luxury.

 H I was established in Norway in 2003 and has since created unique results tailored to each individual client’s needs and projects. The company’s two following award-winning design projects are perfect examples. The first was for a private residence in Oslo which had been built around 1900 by a wellknown Norwegian architect. The clients were a family of four who dreamed of renovating the whole house to suit their lifestyle better. Therefore, the main aim was to give all the rooms a proper purpose while retaining the charm and atmosphere of the house by preserving some of its original details. Almost all rooms were stripped down and transformed

into fresh and functional spaces where the family could fully enjoy their newfound spacious, light and airy living areas. Summerhouse in Portor, Norway belongs to a Norwegian client living in London who wanted a house by the sea but with a difference. Krista Hartmann Interior’s focus throughout the project was to create a light, calm and happy feeling within the home. Great attention was paid to the colours chosen so that they would match as closely as possible the clear blue sky, dark blue sea, and vivid green grass and trees outside. The inside and outside of the property has also been designed to give the feeling of one big space by incorporating large windows and concrete floors.

  M, Russia, ALPN (Architectural Laboratory of Polina Nozdracheva) offers a full range of services: from initial permits, through the development of all project stages to approval of projects and their supervision. The company has won awards for the two following architectural projects: Brickripples is a multiple residence development in Krasnoarmeysk, a town which originated in 1834 as a settlement for the newly established spinning mill. Most of the factory buildings and town houses that have survived until today constructed of brick in the typical industrial architectural style of the 19th century. A study of the site’s history also revealed a long, barrack-like body of workers’ dormitories. Thus the historical structure of the territory has been preserved and used in this project. The facade’s conception is ‘the foliage of trees in the wing’ with two-colour masonry, which creates the


effect of randomness along the long facades and rigour which is common in the trunks of the trees at the end wall. The colour range is limited to natural shades of the surrounding landscape. ALPN was commissioned by a professional horse rider to create a unique equestrian complex in the Pushkin district. ‘Equitorus’ was required to meet all the stringent sanitary and technological requirements for the maintenance, training and preparation of horses competing at the highest level. The complex also had to contain the entire infrastructure necessary for the living and recreation needs of horse owners during their spare time. The most remarkable element of the complex is its large indoor arena made of glued wooden structures and featuring an L-shaped gallery with spectator seats and cafes. The object is perceived as a contrast in relation to the natural environment. It seems as if someone had spread a colourful homespun mat on the ground.

These two award-winning projects are excellent examples. The interior design of the AKOYA Hotel & Spa on Reunion Island, France exudes luxury and exoticism, inspired by its exceptional natural surroundings. Involving 104 rooms, suites and their bathrooms, two restaurants, an exterior bar, swimming pool terrace, multipurpose conference room, lobby and wellness spa, the client asked Borella to transcribe its vision of hedonism and wellbeing. By paying tribute to the heritage and amazing cultural variety of the island, using natural materials, a pure and soothing

ambiance has been created throughout the hotel. The company was commissioned to design the interiors of a private ‘weekend’ villa in the Swiss Alps for a family of 10 who enjoy mountain sports. Therefore, Borella’s design concept is ‘nature in the mountain’ and resembles the shape of a snowflake on four floors, showing that in nature nothing is at a 90 degree angle. The villa’s large living areas have been remodeled to look as if they have been cut into the mountain and give a feeling of space and communication. An extremely comfortable and warm ‘box’ has been created using natural fabrics and materials, subtle highlighting of spaces and an elegant mix of designer furniture both chosen and designed by Borella all harmonise with the surrounding atmosphere.

Each member of its international team has experience in different cultural and creative fields and the drive to deliver aesthetic and inspiring spaces. Shandon is an eight-bedroom detached house located on a private estate in St George’s Hill, Weybridge, opposite the famous golf course. Once the brand new property had been completed to the developer’s standard specification, the owners wanted to create a personalised space that reflected their taste and the property’s beautiful natural surroundings. This was achieved by Keir Townsend through

a combination of clean lines, natural, organic elements, sumptuous textures and artisanal pieces for a feeling of comfort, warmth and harmony within a luxurious setting. The clients were particularly keen on keeping the same theme throughout the house. Thus it was designed with a logical flow of schemes from room to room and zone to zone, taking into careful consideration the use of each room. A natural, neutral colour palette was chosen to suit the differing tastes of the husband and wife as well as the property’s stunning location. The impressive result is an interior design of understated elegance; a timeless scheme with longevity that the clients will not tire of over the years.

 T A’ award-winning hotel design is for the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti International Hotel & Conference Center. The building is owned by IC Holding but, as the site belongs to the Ministry of Tourism, the hotel has been planned to be built on a 49-year build-operatetransfer basis. Following a long feasibility study, it was decided to build an 814-room hotel containing partially serviced apartments. This project represents one of the most important pieces of industrial heritage as it shares the site of the former Bomonti Beer Factory and is within a very central location of Istanbul. The beer factory was the first of its kind in Turkey, founded in 1870 it closed

in 1970, and so the name Bomonti has been incorporated into the hotel’s title. Per site restrictions, the hotel and Conference Center is arranged over 34 floors with seven basement levels. It includes 729 standard bedrooms, 85 different sized suites, a tower lounge and bar, an all-day dining room, a junior ballroom, lobby bars, both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a 2,500m² spa, shopping areas and a 22,000m² conference centre. An open area on the first basement floor in front of the junior ball room is designed for cocktail parties and shows while the lounges and presidential suites on the 34th and 35th floors offer fabulous 360 degree views of Istanbul.

Inspiration for its award-winning project The White House on the Burwood Estate in Walton on Thames, Surrey came from the site’s surrounding trees. The clients had decided to demolish their original faux Georgian property which overshadowed its rear garden and outdoor swimming pool and build a dream home. Hence, 3s was commissioned

to re-orientate the new house to focus on a west garden, double its size and maximize the connection to a sunny garden that was no longer left in shade. As The White House inherited its name from the original house on the site, it seemed fitting to finish the new house predominantly in white render. Key to the spirit of the design is an open house, which also has areas of privacy and enclosure. These are broken down into smaller masses, focusing family spaces in an L-shape around a sunny south-west garden. Conceived as a cluster of enclosed and open spaces, the house opens up to a series of different gardens, providing light into the depth of the building and views out to the trees.

This was achieved by cladding the building with some of the most modern materials available. A great deal of time and thought went into every single stage of the cladding selection process to ensure it depicted a contemporary yet ‘homely’ feel.  A, designed by Motto Architecture, is a 1,000,000m² award-winning development by ADN Atlas Construction in the capital of Turkey. The project creates a new urban focus in the vicinity of Esenboga International Airport. Northgate has already become a catalyst for the rapid urbanisation of the location along with a new international expo, two university campuses and a large automobile industry hub. As the largest self-sustaining mixed-use project in the location, Northgate introduces offices, residences, a variety of retail outlets and a five-star hotel along other amenities. The project provides temporary work-stay environments for travelling business people as well as a 120,000m² housing program to be extended to 800,000m² in the project’s

succeeding phases. Phase I, the downtown of the project, features two office-residence towers, a five-star hotel and an aqua mall with a variety of retail programs. 805 instantly convertible homeoffice units are designed around a central urban courtyard bordered with recreational programs and shopping zones.   S, Eye Interior has almost 20 years of experience in creating innovative interior design for hotels, restaurants and other commercial projects. Its award-winning project involved The Grand Hotel in Stockholm which has hosted celebrities, high profile events and everyday bon-vivants since 1874. The renovation of the hotel began in 2010 and has been ongoing ever since. Following its success in a competition inviting national and international designers, Eye Interior was commissioned to restore rooms that hadn’t been updated since the mid 1980s. Together with an external architect, they were redesigned to be fewer in number but larger with all modern comforts and technology.

The rooms have been given a classiccontemporary style and, as the client wished for an international style with Scandinavian elements, wooden parquet floors and light colours are featured. The redesign also included enlarging and beautifying the hotel’s shop and redesigning its lobby and ladies rest rooms. As the jewel in the hotel’s crown, its most renowned suite, the Princess Lilian Suite, is the largest in Scandinavia at 330m. Adorning its vast and varied spaces are unique pieces of furniture collected from all over the world, including of course a grand piano. Hues and materials are chosen to reflect the style in which this elegant woman dressed featuring dove grey, creme and champagne with cashmere wool, silk and mohair velvets.

- local family company, EAB Homes and Developments offers uniquely designed and luxuriously appointed properties throughout only the very best locations in the Home Counties. ‘Eleven’ located in the leafy surrounds of Beaconsfield’s ‘Golden Triangle’ in Buckinghamshire, is the epitome of an EAB home. This 12,000 square foot new build was completed in just under a year and raises the bar for prestigious new homes in the area. Whilst designing the property, particular attention had to be paid to an existing basement structure. The final proposal took account of this with a full refurbishment of not only the space, but also the bare bones of

the construction itself. Employing modern waterproofing and insulating techniques, the space is now home to a full leisure suite with cinema, gym and wine room.  J. R has been working as an interior designer for 18 years, drawing inspiration mostly from design exhibitions in Germany, Milan and Paris. Her award-winning interior design is for the ‘New Art Deco Apartment’ located in a modern building in Warsaw, Poland. The client, an English businessman, frequent traveller and art collector, wanted to create a space that corresponded to the style of town houses from the 1920s. He has several apartments in Europe and, as he wishes each one to follow the same layout, this apartment has been completely rebuilt. As Dominika has a passion for architecture and details of the art deco period, she has worked on an original collection for many

years, aptly named New Art Deco. Following a meeting with the client, he agreed that this concept would suit their combined vision of a stylish and elegant interior, full of light with sublime taste. The project included a lot of furniture, decorative elements and items from Dominika’s collection. Every piece was handmade using unique materials and, although they all referred to the style of the art deco era, they were modernised to suit 21st century living. While the design of the interiors was in tune with Dominika’s work, it also had to allude to the current global trends in metalwork, types of upholstered furniture, ubiquitous choices of velvet and beautiful veneers.

  R  O B is an award-winning project designed by ESS Sipinscy Architecture Studio and developed by Ataner. The building has been constructed in the centre of Poznan in Poland and takes into account the existing street frontage and nature of the district. Its architecture is a transposition of the modernism of the 20s and 30s, which gives Poznan a certain refined value and is close to the hearts of the architects. The ground floor of the building, which is shaped like the letter ‘L’, was divided into services and shops. It has exits from both the east and south sides to ensure easy access for those using the main communication

routes around the interior. Solutions were also incorporated to allow access for disabled people across all floors. Bónicza 1 is mainly residential with 90 apartments located over six floors, five office floors and underground parking spaces for 119 cars. Its design structure is accented by the raised form of the building’s corner, while its character is emphasised through its facades. Unique, individually chosen stone cladding features on the east façade with a fully-glazed façade on the south side, flanked by glass wings, arranged according to the sun’s daily path. Graphite is the dominant colour used which serves to accentuate the building’s clean lines while also brightening up the neighbourhood.

 S  developed a new, award-winning interior design concept for the Celentano Ristorante, the largest pizza restaurant chain in Ukraine with 220 locations. Celentano planned a rebranding of the company with the slogan ‘An explosion of flavours and emotions’. The resulting eclectic design blends smoothly into the modern architecture of the building that accommodates the new Ibis Style Hotel in Lviv, the cultural capital of Ukraine. The interior abounds in details so that guests will always find something new and fascinating. Younger guests can get together in the Bambino Room. All the light fixtures and chairs are different, allowing guests to choose their

favourite spot and the coloured walls with their ‘distressed effect’ provide an ideal background for the restaurant’s pop art style. As Celentano is on Ivan Franko Street, pop art pictures depict a portrait of the famous Ukranian writer, forming a particular feature of the restaurant. Moose mannequins symbolise skilled pizzaiolos, who make fantastic tasty and giant pizzas. Arsidea Studio is currently working on new designs for another 20 Celentano Ristorantes, each of which will be given its own signature style. Celentano is going to sell franchises all over the world, so investors can buy a bright restaurant with a profitable business model right now.

 C S S (RCS Spain) is the European affiliate of Real Capital Solutions Inc, a USbased private equity firm which specialises in the recapitalisation of distressed real estate portfolios. The company combines US business ethics and equity expertise with local Spanish knowledge to achieve the very best results. RCS saw a huge opportunity with its award-winning project, ‘Valley Heights’. The development and its 40 apartments were completely transformed thanks to the insight of managing partner, Peter Wells. A vision that was precisely implemented by the multinational redevelopment team. Although in a prime position with uninterrupted views of the Costa del Sol,

the development had ceased at the height of the Spanish crisis in 2007. The extent of the reconstruction was considerable with all finishes and décor being subject to a lengthy review process. RCS chose white rather than the original mustard yellow for all the building facades to represent fresh beginnings and suit buyer demands. In addition to the improvements made to the flooring and roofs, RCS removed the existing six-pane windows and installed wall-width features in their place. This maximised the stunning views and enhanced the beauty of the interiors in terms of style and natural lighting. A thriving community now exists at Valley Heights following all properties being sold within a record-breaking timeframe.

The company’s versatility spans from furniture design and interiors, through residential, office, transport and culture buildings to sustainable citywide planning schemes. Clarion Hotel The Edge, an award-winning architectural project by Niels Torp, stands out as a spectacular new landmark in the city of Tromso, Norway. Featuring 13 floors and 287 rooms, it has immediately become an exciting new meeting place and cultural venue for both large and small events. The Edge with its stunning building structure and facade is the northernmost

energy Class A hotel in the world. Its design brief was to integrate the hotel with conference facilities for approximately 1,500 people on an important harbour front site. Niels Torp has carefully composed the main bulk of the building into six separate smaller volumes with different angles, heights and façade variations. The façade consists of glass and composite elements and is composed to reflect the light in different angles. This allows the colourful blue, white and pink hues of the Arctic sky to be emphasized beautifully across the building. Inside, several architectural devices lend intimacy to the huge reception/restaurant area, while corridors offer enticing views of the city and its surroundings.

 L  P G is a family-run company specialising in converting old and unloved buildings into unique and desirable living spaces. The Queen’s Brewery in Manchester is an awardwinning project from Forshaw. It transforms a former brewery into a residential retreat that perfectly befits modern 21st century living but maintains a stunning ode to the past. The Grade II listed Queen’s Brewery has both substantial historical and architectural significance and occupies a site that is over 155 years old. It has original period features throughout including a romantic-style clock tower and a red brick exterior. Recognising the potential of a building with such importance within the

local community, Forshaw preserved and conserved these elements while turning the building into 73 bespoke rental apartments. Offering four different types, the luxurious units range in size from studios to threebedroom apartments. The site’s stunning courtyard was pivotal to the conservation of the building’s history, hence it was redeveloped by Forshaw and the architects, Hattrell DS One, to become the nucleus of the project. The courtyard also saw the inclusion of a striking new-build structure, creating a modern fusion of old and new to appeal to contemporary residents. With The Queen’s Brewery, every apartment is different, creating its own individual character and unique selling points.

Seascape, an award-winning residential development located on Newquay’s Pentire peninsula, is Legacy’s first flagship project. It features a selection of 10 luxury apartments and two houses in a private, new-build development overlooking the world-renowned Fistral beach. Buyers were able to personalise their new homes with a range of kitchens, bathrooms and floor finishes. This enabled all occupants to

 M A specialises in taking a flexible approach to architecture and design in order to deliver unique and practical solutions. The company’s award-winning project comprises two residential buildings, named Dragonfly and Firefly, located on the main street of Frisange in Luxembourg. One of the client’s requirements was to include large exterior terraces which would enable residents to extend their living space outside when the weather permitted. There was to be a spacious open plan kitchen and living room while giving the bedrooms and bathrooms more privacy. A balance also had to be found between providing plenty of light during the winter months and offering shade in summer.

As the front of the buildings are on a very busy road, Rodolphe Mertens Architects chose to adopt a sealed architectural concept to function as a sound absorber. Conversely, the rear of both buildings have a beautiful view across fields and so a much more open design was used. Interiors have been deliberately designed to be functional and straightforward in a minimalistic wayto attract high-end property buyers. Finishing the buildings’ facades in terracotta was ingenious as it resulted in an eye-catching design compared to other buildings on the street. The final design of Dragonfly and Firefly creates a unity between their facades with stunning 160 metre terraces as their defining feature.

Due to their quality, location and a highly effective marketing strategy, 98% of these luxury apartments were sold off-plan, with only two stunning penthouses remaining.

Hola’s award-winning project involves the interior design of a modern, spacious house for a couple with two teenage sons and a four-year-old daughter. Its starting point was a contemporary, minimalistic style which was most favoured by the clients. This was further developed into a consistent timeless interior in which design goes hand in hand with

functionality. Most of the furniture and other elements were designed by Hola and custom made by its cooperative companies. All living spaces have been divided into levels with a daily zone on the ground floor and a private zone on the first floor. This includes a cosy yet stylish master bedroom zone. The entrance zone features an open staircase, while a multifunctional living area adjoining the kitchen and dining area, is ideal for family gatherings in front of the fireplace. The ground floor is also complemented with a work and relax zone comprising an office plus bathroom with sauna. With this home, Hola has achieved a balance between industrial simplicity and a warm, comfortable interior by using practical concrete wall covering, dominant wooden panel features, natural plants and a timeless colour palette.
