70 di questi Festival // 70 Festivals and Still Counting Festeggia un anniversario importante la Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Venezia, quest’anno in programma dal 28 agosto al 7 settembre // The Venice International Film Festival - scheduled for August 28th to September 7th - is celebrating an important anniversary this year Ha raggiunto il traguardo delle 70 edizioni, la Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, festival tra i più accreditati, glamour quanto Cannes, indipendente quanto quello di Berlino, ma senz’altro dotato di una propria forte personalità. Da un lato autori affermati, dall’altro la sezione cortometraggi, fucina dei registi di domani; da un lato i film di genere, spesso difficilmente collocabili, dall’altro i documentari, che acquistano sempre maggior importanza, assicurandosi sempre più interesse da parte del pubblico; ci sono i film restaurati e un progetto, che prende il nome di Future Reloaded: 70 registi di tutto il mondo – tra cui Kiarostami, Burshtein, Salles – sono stati invitati a realizzare un cortometraggio, in totale libertà creativa, un omaggio d’autore collettivo alla Mostra, che verrà proiettato per la prima volta al Lido. Quattro le sezioni in cui si articola il Festival: Concorso, Fuori Concorso, Orizzonti e Venezia Classici. Cosi spiega il Direttore, Barbera riguardo alla scelta: “Nel compilare la playlist dei titoli proposti quest’anno, si è cercato di tener conto della crescente frammentazione e schizofrenia che sembra caratterizzare l’universo delle immagini in movimento, sempre più contrapposte per modalità produttive, incoerenza dei modelli spettacolari di riferimento, esplorazioni delle nuove potenzialità offerte dalle tecnologie digitali, aperte alla sperimentazione delle inedite piattaforme distributive e promozionali. Ma anche segnate dalle complicazioni economiche, dalla riduzione di risorse finanziare che un tempo sembravano pressoché illimitate, dalle inedite strategie di promozione e dalle difficoltà di ‘bucare’ l’opaca resistenza del mondo della comunicazione.”
The Venice Film Festival has reached the milestone of 70 editions. It is among the most well-known festivals and is as glamorous as that held in Cannes, as independent as that in Berlin, yet it certainly has its own particular flair. On one side there are the established screenwriters, on the other there is the short film section, a hotbed for future directors; there are genre films, which are often difficult to categorize, then there are documentaries, which make up an increasingly more prominent part and ensure rising interest from the audience; there are restored motion pictures and a project that goes by the name of Future Reloaded, where 70 directors from around the world - including Kiarostami, Burshtein and Salles - were invited to make a short movie and were given complete creative freedom. This collective tribute to the Festival will be screened for the fist time in Venice. There are four sections that make up the Festival: International Competition, Out of Competition, Orizzonti (new trends) and Venice Classics. Regarding the selection, Director Alberto Barbera explains: “In compiling the playlist of the works nominated this year, we tried to take into consideration the growing fragmentation and schizophrenia that seems to characterize the world of motion pictures - increasingly diverse production methods, varying models of reference, new ways of implementing digital technologies and greater experimentation with unusual distribution and promotional platforms. But the industry has also been inhibited by economic complications - a reduction in the financial resources that once seemed nearly limitless, unprecedented promotional strategies and the challenge of breaking through the ostensibly opaque world of communications.”
