Dear fellow Member, Welcome to the Club at Takanawa! On behalf of everyone working on the Redevelopment Project, we hope you will find our new custom-built facility to be a comfortable home away from home. The Board of Governors, committees, Club staff and Mitsubishi Estate have all worked hard to make the facility the finest possible, with all the services that Members have come to expect. We have put together this guide to help you familiarize yourself with the Takanawa facility and the surrounding area. Please take a few minutes to look it over. As you will see, your old favorites from Azabudai are still here to serve you, including Garden Café, Mixed Grille and the American Room. We also have a more family-friendly 25-meter Pool amid the greenery. In addition, there are new features long-requested by Members. These include The Spa, expanded family dining and dedicated areas for the Club’s younger Members. The new facility’s specific adult and family entrances and lobby areas, meanwhile, allow the Club to better separate adult and family activities. Of course, the Club at Takanawa is primarily part of the longer-term goal to build the premier international Club in Asia at our property in Azabudai. We are pleased to say that everything is progressing according to plan, and we are confident that we will have a truly glorious Club to enjoy for many years to come. In the meantime, please make yourself at home at Takanawa and, as always, let us know how we can help you to better enjoy your Club. Yours faithfully, Board of Governors

PUBLIC TRANSPORT Takanawa is a 12-minute walk from the major transportation hubs of Shinagawa, Gotanda and Takanawadai stations. Shinagawa Station provides convenient access to a large number of train lines, including the Yamanote, KeihinTohoku, Yokosuka and Tokaido, as well as to the Narita Express and the Tokaido bullet train. Easy access to Haneda Airport is also available via the private Keihin Kyuko Line. Gotanda Station is on the JR Yamanote Line, the Toei Asakusa Line and the Tokyu Ikegami Line, while Takanawadai Station is on the Toei Asakusa Line. Bus number 96 can be taken from the Azabu Juban stop near the Wendy’s fast-food restaurant to the stop after Shinagawa Station in front of the Gotenyama police box, a two-minute walk from the Club at Takanawa (see the enclosed area map for details).

TAXI There is a busy taxi stand outside Shinagawa Station. In addition, Nihon Kotsu taxi service provides a 24-hour, English-language reservation service at 03-5755-2336. Members should be aware that many taxi drivers in Tokyo are not highly experienced and not fully familiar with the city’s labyrinth of roads. Some drivers, therefore, may not be familiar with how to access the Takanawa site. While the Club has informed the major taxi companies of the new location of the Club at Takanawa, to avoid any difficulties, please see the enclosed area map for details. If you have an especially problematic time, please ask the driver for a receipt and give it to the Member Services Desk. A staff member will then contact the particular taxi company.

CULTURE

TEMPLES

Members seeking distractions distinctly Japanese should not miss Sengaku Temple, the sacred site and final resting place of the famous 47 ronin samurai and their lord. Alternatively, for those looking to learn about the ancient tradition of Japanese tea ceremony, nearby Hatakeyama Memorial Museum is the place to go. The Teien Art Museum, housed in Tokyo’s last art deco building, offers a culturally enriching experience as well as a green escape in the form of its French and Japanese gardens. The impressive Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, meanwhile, is the oldest museum of its kind in Japan.

ENTERTAINMENT One of Tokyo’s most desirable residential areas, Takanawa is also home to many embassies, hotels and major corporate offices. Nightlife options abound for those looking to entertain clients or unwind after a long day at the office. Families, too, have plenty from which to choose. Get exciting angles on creatures from the deep at the Shinagawa Aquarium or drop by the Aqua Stadium, the world’s only aquarium displaying dwarf sawfish. Take the kids to see thrilling dolphin tricks, ride a roller coaster through anime scenes or catch a flick at a multiplex.

RECREATION

PARKS

Green space is a treasure in Tokyo, and Takanawa boasts some of the city’s best—perfect for a day with the family or a spot in which to kick back with a book. Set in the grounds of a feudal lord’s former residence, Ikedayama Park is a beautiful walking garden. Its simple, handsome bridges made from large slabs of rock cross the narrow points of a natural, spring-fed pond. Each season coaxes out the beauty of the park’s various trees and plants, including water lilies, violets and Japanese irises. Also in the area, Shinagawa Chuo Park is the largest inland park in the city, with space both for sports and relaxation. It has an exercise track, health equipment, fountains, flowerbeds and grassy hills. Members can also golf and bowl just minutes from the Club at Takanawa. The Takanawa Golf Center has 14 practices boxes. Just across from Shinagawa Station, the Shinagawa Prince Hotel offers an 80-lane bowling center.

specializing in high-quality fruit, fish, meat, baked goods and deli items. When it comes to apparel and accessories, the multitude of fashionable clothing stores in the Gate City Osaki area enjoy a setting attractive enough to be used as a backdrop for TV programs and magazine shoots. At the other end of the spectrum, those looking for bargains can find them at the Shinagawa Intercity Flea Market just on the other side of Shinagawa Station.
