Students from Hanyang University, South Korea, enjoy snacks in the stands at the Corvallis Knights game earlier this week.

Take me out to the ballgame! Corvallis Knights games are in full swing this time of year, so check out the schedules posted in Heckart and Reed Lodges. Tickets are only $5, a great deal for one of the most popular summer pastimes of many Corvallions. Our students are getting ready for the big annual camping trip on August 27th. For many of them, this is their first chance to enjoy another one of America’s favorite summer pastimes. Don’t miss your chance to get out there yourselves and enjoy summer while it lasts!

The ILLC—we’re almost there! As the big move draws near, you can really see the ILLC looking more finished day by day. Here’s a sneak peek at our new digs:

Admissions evaluator Becca Oien returned from her honeymoon to a cubicle filled with balloons!

Reminders and Announcements

Natural wood and stone details add a nice finish to the exterior. The landscaping is almost done, which makes a huge difference. Go take a look!

It’s a circus up there The 2nd floor hallway in Reed looked more like a circus when Becca released the balloons!

A mock-up room in the ILLC shows the living arrangement and fun modular furniture options for residents. Don’t forget! Staying Connected for another year! Can you believe we’ve made it to Volume 3 of the INTO OSU Connection Newsletter? As we embark on our third year of this publication, it’s fun to look back and see what we have accomplished, and how we have changed. As we continue to grow, so will our stories. So, thanks for reading and stay tuned for more great features in the coming year! Want to see all the past issues of the Connection? Follow the link to our online archive HERE.

Remember Ramadan Wondering why your students are dozing off in class? Isn’t there something missing outside of Heckart and Reed throngs of students standing around smoking, for example? Well, don’t forget! It’s still Ramadan. The second week of Ramadan continues the daily fasts for many of our students. Not only do they refrain from eating food, they also refrain from drinking anything (including water). If you don’t celebrate Ramadan, try to avoid drinking or eating in front of people who may be fasting. One of the key principles behind fasting is to have compassion for those less fortunate. Even if you don’t celebrate Ramadan by fasting, compassion is a universal virtue! g

Most of the activities that I normally do, I cannot do during Ramadan. After sunset, I can eat and drink. Actually it is more difficult to not drink! During Ramadan I think about poor people—how they live and how they cannot eat all day. We can eat after sunset, but maybe they cannot eat after sunset. I think about poor people and I think of Allah more. It’s really different celebrating here instead of at home. At home, all the stores are open until 3 or 4 am during Ramadan. Here, we have to prepare ahead of time because it is hard to find stores that are open. What do I want people to know about Ramadan? I would like them to try fasting. Just try it! <laughing> Abdulrahman Bajahzar, Saudi Arabia
