One month down, 11 to go! It’s hard to believe we’re already through one month of 2012, but here we are! 2012 is a Leap Year, which means February has 29 days instead of 28. This is because the solar year is approximately 1/4 day longer than our calendar year. Specifically, the solar year is 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds longer than the calendar year. In this issue, we take a look at upcoming trips and activites, get to know one of our helpful staff members, and more! Enjoy!

OSU is one of the greenest college campuses, and we want to keep it that way! Look for posters and examples of how to properly recycle around the ILLC soon! The more you recycle, the more likely OSU is to win the nationwide competition. For more info about what to recycle and where to recycle it, click here!

Bring on the TALENT!

Come share your talent for fun, fame, and charity! Dance, play a musical instrument, put on a magic show, or surprise us with some other talent in this fun event. We will sell tickets to this event and donate the money to INTO Giving or another worthy charity. We need performers for this show! All current or former INTO OSU students, instructors, or staff members are welcome to come wow the audience. I know that many of you out there have amazing talents, so don’t be selfish! Come share them with the rest of the world! If you would like to perform at the show, please come talk to Benjamin Kibler, the new Trips and Activities Assistant. You can ask for him at the ILLC Welcome Desk. The INTO OSU Talent Show will be held on Friday, March 9th from 7:00-9:00pm. Details about the location and ticket prices will be available soon!

New Music from the desk of Warren Lawless

Artist: Miike Snow Album: Happy to You Release date: Mar. 26, 2012 Miike Snow - a group composed of Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg and vocalist Andrew Wyatt - will debut their second album on March 26th! In 2009, the group flooded the indie music world with an incredible album, mashing together dance beats with soulful lyrics and vocals. They captured a large audience, toured the world and then settled down for two years, working on their next album. It’s almost here, and there are three songs you can hear already: “Devil’s Work”, “Paddling Out”, and “Black Tin Box” (click each to listen!)

Artist: The Roots Album: Undun Release date: Dec. 6, 2011 The Roots have been around for a long time now. Since 1987, when the group formed, members have come and gone, creating an oftenevolving sound that’s earned a lot of critical acclaim. The latest album revolves around a fictional character growing up in a rough neighborhood, struggling to survive. He must choose between a life of honesty and a life of crime - he chooses the life of crime. The album tells his story and of the consequences of his choices. It’s a heavy topic, but the album is a good mix of upbeat and somber songs. Click here to listen to “Make My”, the album’s first single.

Test-taking tips! - this month’s tip from Warren! Midterms are coming up in the middle of February, and we want you to be prepared! Here are some helpful tips on getting ready for your midterms: • Sleep well Don’t stay up all night studying for a test the following morning. You’ll be so tired that your brain won’t recall the information you learned the night before. Getting 8 hours of sleep the night before a test will help your brain function well! • Breathe deep! Being nervous can negatively impact how well you do on a test. Take a deep breath before walking into the classroom, and before you start your test. It will help calm your nerves. • Learn the testing method Every class tests their students differently. During your first exam, be sure to notice how the questions are asked, what material the test covers more, and what kinds of questions take more time. When preparing for your next exam you’ll be able to focus your studying on the parts of the material that you know will be on the exam. Warren’s Tips!

From one student to another...

• Read the instructions! It seems obvious, but read them carefully! Sometimes tests require you to do something unusual, and you don’t want to miss it! Midterms can be tough, but if you keep up with your work, study right, and keep calm, you can do well!
