ARCH 2.0 A PROPOSAL FOR OUR WEB IDENTITY BY ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ AND JOHN LEE

INTRODUCTION Waterloo Architecture Cambridge is an innovative community that celebrates an open culture; from the open layout of the design studios to the integration of a public gallery and cafÊ into the building design. ARCH 2.0 seeks to broadcast this community to the world by taking advantage of some of the most powerful tools available in today’s dynamic web. In as little as five years, the way we read information on the internet has changed dramatically. Facebook now claims over 400 million users worldwide. Where Facebook has connected us to our friend base, Twitter has allowed us to engage with larger communities and conversations, worldwide. Together, these services have transformed the way we read information. Everyday, millions of people read dynamic, media intensive, information feeds that blur the line between author and audience. ARCH 2.0 seeks to integrate these free web tools to generate a dynamic, informative, and compelling web identity for Waterloo Architecture Cambridge.

TWITTER CONVERSATIONS

FLICKR + VIMEO

Twitter brings the WAC community closer together. The conversation feed is a great way to tap into—and interact with—school culture, both academically and socially. Through Twitter we can build a virtual forum for WAC that allows you to send messages instantly to the feed. Being in the loop is a piece of cake!

A WAC flickr group enables students to showcase their projects and videos. Students and faculty can easily upload their work to the WAC group through their flickr and vimeo accounts. Anyone can select their favourite content and bump their visibility on the main page.

GOOGLE CALENDAR

GOOGLE MAPS + GEOLOCATION SERVICES

The Google Calendar widget synthesizes all of the events happening at WAC, in one clear and organized interface. The calendar has search and filter capabilities like the site at large. Staying organized has never been easier!

Waterloo Architecture Cambridge does not exist in a vacuum. Geo-location services such as Foursquare allow users to broadcast their location by “checking-in” to nearby venues, creating real-time maps of popular places in Cambridge, Rome—and even co-op placements!

Twitter is a mobile-ready platform—so the WAC feed is always at your fingertips.

The “conversation” occurs in another feed, showing tweets directed @WAC. Hash tags, like #wacstudio, #wacbooks, and #waclostandfound, sort, filter and organize these posts. Twitter enables the school to interact with a broader network, extending our reach and visibility. Jump in—let’s converse, connect, and collaborate.
