When we all said a fond goodbye to 2020, some months ago, it was with great optimism that life would soon return to the life we knew before the SARS-CoV-1 global pandemic changed our lives forever. Vaccine studies were yielding positive results with few side effects for several different vaccines, and the supply chain was ready to crank out hundreds of millions of doses in rapid fashion. Alas, things are not that simple. New Covid variants emerged, large swaths of our populations are fearful of vaccines, and willing to take the risk of Covid infection rather than undergo vaccination. Globally, vaccine is scarce in low- and middle-income countries. The public is exhausted from social isolation, working and schooling from home, mask wearing, and travel restrictions.
