2015 Highlights at a glance For the third consecutive year International Art Centre achieved top price at auction when Horace MooreJones’ Simpson & His Donkey went under the hammer at our July sale. For decades, this historical watercolour from the collection of the Auckland Commerce Club, had been on long term loan to Auckland War Memorial Museum. The poignant scene of Anzac bravery at Gallipoli, fetched $492,450. At the same sale, Frances Hodgkins Monastery Steps sold for $375,200, the second highest price for a work by this artist sold at auction. A small Charles Frederick Goldie Past and Present fetched $199,200. The July auction exceeded sales of $2 million and to date is the highest grossing art auction of 2015. International Art Centre’s increasing share of the contemporary New Zealand art market was highlighted in the May sale of the Barry Pilcher Collection of contemporary New Zealand art and sculpture. This single owner collection achieved an outstanding sale rate of over 80%. Several records were achieved, notably Heather Straka’s St Sebastian which made $21,690. As we go to print, the finest offering of Peter McIntyre paintings to come to market in recent years feature in our November auction. These works have met with unprecedented nationwide and offshore interest. Full reportage on that sale will be available in the New Year. We look forward to an exciting 2016 commencing with our Collectable Art auction in February and the Important & Rare sale in March. Entries are invited prior to Christmas for both auctions and as always, we welcome confidential no obligation enquiries. 2

JUSTIN SUMMERTON For Sale / Karekare Acrylic on canvas 55 x 70 Signed & dated 2015 3,000 - 5,000
For Sale / Karekare. I wanted to encapsulate the media fever, the heated debate, surrounding foreign investment in New Zealand property. I chose the most precious, most sacred of Auckland gems - Karekare ( where I once spent my winters) to peg the sign which I made vivid red to pop violently from the lush natural splendour. For those who fear the Asian ‘land grab’, this work might jolt the senses like a poster for a horror movie. ‘No worries Realestate’ is a fictitious company, one with no qualms about flogging off paradise to the highest bidder - their motto could read ‘ yes, we’ll sell your children’s future with a smile on our face’. A friend of mine translated the sign into Chinese. Justin Summerton 55 55
