stallion profile “It was a huge moment for Tamayuz when Blond Me won the E.P Taylor,” adds Stanley “She really deserved a Group 1 success as she is so tenacious, sound and talented. A mare like her demands admiration after winning six times and finishing second on five occasions from 17 starts. “It was also brilliant for her breeders Mark and Elaine Clarke of Wardstown Stud. Like the Hayes, they have also been long term supporters of Tamayuz so it is pleasing to see both breeders enjoy Group 1 success with his progeny this year.” Mark Clarke takes up the story. “It was such a thrill to see Blond Me win her Group 1 in Canada,” smiles Clarke. “It was massive for us. You can have a lot of bad days as a breeder and sometimes you question why you do this at all, but moments such as that make it all worth worthwhile. “It wasn’t a shock to us that Blond Me won

rightly priced, then the answer is always Tamayuz. “He produces solid good-looking offspring and we have found he does best with a less ‘refined’ mare. He doesn’t cover a huge book of mares, but he puts quality into anything you send him. I have huge respect and admiration for him and will continue to use him in the future with hopefully as much success as we had this year.”

a Grade 1 as her form is so strong and she has been so tough throughout her career even against the colts. “She was a very good-looking yearling, stunning in fact. Her dam Holda is currently in-foal to Awtaad, but we hope to send her back to Tamayuz. We use him every year and have used his son Sir Prancealot too. “If you ask me for a proven sire who is

amayuz also had an excellent year in the sales ring with seven of his yearlings breaking the €100,000 mark. International Thoroughbred’s columunist, bloodstock agent and my sister Cathy Grassick was responsible for purchasing one of those at the recent Goffs Orby Yearling Sale. “I bought a half-sister to two stakes performers, including On Her Toes, for €100,000 on behalf of Yvonne Jacques. She is my favourite purchase of his offspring to date and I am very excited to see her on the track next year,” says Grassick. “My clients have been using Tamayuz since his first season at stud. He has a lot of appeal as he is a strong, good-looking individual with lots of quality and an excellent pedigree. “His immediate family is responsible for such top-class stallions as Sea The Stars, Galileo and King’s Best and because of this he offers an outcross for Sadlers Wells and Danzig line mares, being by Nayef out of a Nureyev mare himself. “His progeny have greatly appealed to me at the sales as they have a lot of his characteristics and he generally stamps his stock with quality.” Shadwell were also strong supporters of their stallion in 2017 purchasing his four highest-priced yearlings of the year, including the colt out of Whip And Win. “Sheikh Hamdan is well known for supporting his stallions throughout the world,” commented Stanley, “and Tamayuz is no different. If the boss likes what he sees, then he is more than happy to support his clients. In recent years, his colts had a tendency to outsell his fillies, but Group 1s set trends so the success of his daughters this year may well close the gap.” Tamayuz’s sons may have blazed the trail but his daughters are quickly making just as big a name for themselves and 2018 looks like being another exhilarating year for this versatile sire.
