Dear Parents, Challenges in schools take different forms – if your child is in Years 7 to 9, you will have received a letter from us, together with the progress grades, pointing in the direction of – head lice! …. and how to deal with them. Our proposal was to have this coming weekend a focused attempt to get rid of these persistent creatures. Obviously a situation where parental cooperation is of the essence. Thanks go to the group of parents who joined the initial brainstorming evening at the beginning of the year, debating Mission statement, school philosophy and the different strands for the new Strategic school plan “Vision 2014”. I am glad to report that, after further input from all constituencies including the MR (participation council), the plan is now approved and can be viewed on the log-in pages of our website. This plan will of course be annually reviewed, detailed and adjusted according to outcomes, needs and changed conditions. If your son or daughter is in Y11, a crucial 3 or 4 months are ahead: based on the current academic results and future interests, students will make a choice soon on what 6 subjects they will study in Y12 and Y13. Minimum requirements for entry to the IB Diploma Program apply (please see details in the school guide). In short, if students do not yet have the points for the next year, a lot of work is waiting for them between now and March! Y11 parents are urged to put the date for the IB DP information evening (1 February) in red in their calendar now – even if you never attend school information meetings, this is the one to come to. Please see our call for volunteers for this year’s International Day below. We get tremendous support from the community and it would be great to see this continue. Leen Maes is already working hard on this event. Best wishes, Peter Kotrc

Preparations for the International Day on March 26, 2011 will start with a kick-off meeting on Monday, November 29 at 8:45 in the Conference Room and on Thursday, December 2 at 19:30 in the Conference Room. This whole school event will celebrate our cultural diversity expressed in a Flag Parade, Performances (Music, Dance, Drama) Exhibitions, Art Auction , Workshops, Games for all age, and last but not least an International Food Fair. Contact Olga Estadella, Events Coordinator of the Parent Association (olgaestadell@hotmail.com) or Leen Maes, Community & Events Officer of ISH (l.maes@ishthehague.nl) if you want to be involved! There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learningfrom failure. – Gen Colin Powell
