International Moving Checklist An international moving is a big commitment and it’s best to plan appropriately when it’s time to pack. You don’t need to get many things you don’t need, however you do need to keep a way of residence for your move. Moving to a different country will be incredibly stressful, particularly for a family who is adjusting to a new culture and surroundings. Its important to keep things prearranged while moving to a new country. So what’s necessary to take and what could you leave behind? That’s all up to you, but there are more things to tend to know while moving internationally, like cancelling utilities and ensuring all your documents are in order to admit you to the new country with no hassle. Cancel your utilities and phone services. You should do this earlier to leaving your present home. Your utilities and phone service representatives will be ready to assist you designate a time when services would stop. You do not need to call up and tell your utilities or phone providers to cancel services as both do that immediately. You need to do this about a week earlier than you will be out of your home. In many cases, the companies would prorate your bill for these services. This means you won’t be billed for the days or weeks when the items won’t be in service. You should even cancel any newspaper subscriptions and mail must be rerouted to a P.O. box or to the home of a trusted family member or friend. You can still get mail you want, but it could no longer go to your current residence if a new resident will be there. You can go to the post office for this request, call them, or fill out a form online. For all new mail, remember you want to file a change of address for your bank accounts, credit cards, and insurance companies. All of these institutions have important paperwork you may need, so it’s important for you to remember to change your address to avoid identity fraud. Consider a switch to conducting business online when doing an international move. This permits you to receive all documents online. In several


cases, you can email representatives for your bank or credit card provider or conduct live chats to ask questions or address any issues with services. A family with kids should have all school and medical records. The new country you move to would want things credentials to check grades, test scores, and vaccines. This can be important to have for an international move since you wanted new schools to admit your kids with no delays.
