MES OLĂ?MPICO EN INTERNACIONAL ARAVACA Over a three day period, our students played a lot of sports and enjoyed doing aerobics and playing padel, golf, roller skating, football, basket, running, volleyball, hockey etc. All of EPO and ESO took part, they had the opportunity to practice collective and individual sports. We had a great time playing against Bernadette, meeting other children and spending two days out of the classrooms breathing fresh spring air. It was a great way to end the term.
SENSES During this month I2 has been working in a special way on our senses: sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing; just like equilibrium, temperature and “propiocepción”. We have had so much fun!!! Miss Elena says that it is very important for us to work on our senses because sensory stimulus benefits good thinking, intelligence and language, now that the upper functions of our brain depend on sensory education. For us, it was simply “ as fun as ball park”, as Ainara said!!
MEDIEVAL GYMKHANA And finally… the day arrived!! The end of the Castles' project. To celebrate the end of our project, we organized an amazing Gymkhana. Parents were invited to participate in the event. Adults and children spent an enjoyable afternoon together in which they had to do their best. There were many activities such as painting faces, Puppets, karaoke, reading corner, Dartboard... We had an unforgettable 4 time together!!!!
EASTER In April we began to talk about Easter in the I4 classes. The boys and girls liked sharing about where they were going to go and what they were going to do during the Easter Break. But with the arrival of spring, most of the excitement was focused on the Easter Bunny. The excitement grew as Ms. Janet shared a lovely story about this intriguing character.
EASTER BUNNY Lots of exited children have been waiting for this popular rabbit and 2014 was not different. In true Easter bunny style, he hopped right on into the Centre to share his delicious eggs. Lots of smiling faces were waiting in each classroom. Some children gave him cuddles to help keep him going through the day. Some other children sang songs for him‌ After that we started our Easter egg hunt. 5
SOIL ECOSYSTEM To learn more in depth about soil ecosystems year three students went to the garden to dig up the top layer and investigate firsthand the different elements in this ecosystem. Children had a great time playing around with the sand, mud, rocks and little bugs in the garden. Some children even found worms! It was fun to see which students like the different insects and which ones didn’t. All of this investigating was done with students having complete freedom. They decided where to dig, how to dig and for how long to dig up the soil before changing places. It was a class where children had a chance to be just that; CHILDREN. You can see in the pictures their faces of enthusiasm and we hope it warms you as much as it does us!
¡VAMOS A MEDIR!
ISABEL CANTOS & THE OPERA To improve our knowledge we have met a famous opera singer and concert, Isabel Cantos. With her, we learned the difference between the different voices in opera and some technical tips to improve our voice technique to sing correctly. We also learned about how to take care of our voices and how costly it is to pursue a musical career because of the study time, sacrifice and effort.
CHILLIDA Last Tuesday on the 22nd of April, Ane, Eduardo Chillida´s granddaughter, visited our school. The fifth grade classes had the opportunity of learning all about Chillida´s life. How did he work, which were his favourite sculptures, what did he like to do in his free time... We watched a documentary, and after it, the children asked all the questions that they had prepared. It was a very interesting class! We learned a lot!
VIDEO GAMES We are programming and creating our own code during this term, we will create our own videogames but first they have to learn the different codes, design the video game and solve the problems they are finding.
WHAT IS GAMIFICATION? Gamification, in its strictest form, is applying game like mechanics to existing content. What this means is that you add things like points, levels, leaderboards, badges, etc. to your existing content to make it more interactive and improve user experience. Some of the reasons to gamify education are: •Increase interactivity & rewards – Instead of just reading text, you are actually doing something and still going through the same content •Increase awareness – You can be put in scenarios that will make you do & understand things which in a normal computer based training may be 'tuned out' •Reward challenging tasks – Meeting deadlines, goals, targets, etc. Difference between games and gamification: Game
Games have defined rules & objectives
May just be a collection of tasks with points or some form of reward
There is a possibility of losing
Losing may or may not be possible because the point is to motivate people to take some action and do something.
Sometimes just playing the game is intrinsically rewarding
Being intrinsically rewarding is optional.
Games are usually hard and expensive to build
Gamification is usually easier and cheaper
Content is usually morphed to fit the story and scenes of the game
Usually game like features are added without making too many changes to your content
CALZADA ROMANA We were surrounded by magnificent scenery as we set off to face one of the biggest challenges they had ever had. We were going to walk from Las Dehesas to El Puerto de la Fuenfria, a 3 hour mountain hike. 10
