RUGS

Past to present Flair Rugs launches styles inspired by the V&A Flair Rugs has added four designs to its premium Luxmi collection as part of its ongoing collaboration with the Victoria & Albert Museum. Each rug is inspired by a different artefact from the V&A’s rich archive. With influences ranging from 19th century Chinese motifs to the glamorous age of Art Deco, the latest launches for this season showcase examples of exceptional design and craftsmanship. Phoenix, Moderne, Rhythm and Rosa are all available in three standard sizes of 120 x 170cm, 160 x 230cm and 200 x 290cm. The additions join existing V&A Inspired designs – Jazz, Honeysuckle, Fanfare and Rhapsody – in the Luxmi collection, creating a series of beautiful hand-made qualities inspired by the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. For Moderne, Flair Rugs has returned to designs of the Art Deco period, referencing bold, geometric forms in an archetypal brown and ochre colourway. Inspired by a 1930s hand-knotted carpet given to the V&A by The Savoy Group, this rug is typical of Art Deco and undeniably elegant, hand-tufted in a wool-rich/viscose blend for a subtle radiance.

The work of French artist, Edouard Benedictus inspires Rosa that takes a detail from the artist’s Variations of 1924, which showcased abstract floral motifs and examined intricate details from textile and wallpaper designs in vibrant colour. Flair Rugs has played on this, enlarging the scale and modernising with a seasonal, fresh colour palette. Rosa is hand-tufted in India from 100% wool.

Inspired by a fragile yet beautiful piece of Chinese wallpaper from 1860, Phoenix features a majestic central motif of a mythical bird surrounded by blooming peonies. Hand-tufted in India and tipsheared for a shimmering hued elegance and to echo the fragile nature of the original work, Phoenix comes in a combination of duck egg blue and ivory, in a 100% viscose.

Based on a furnishing fabric in the V&A archive by Allan Walton Textiles, Rhythm captures the energy and sense of adventure of 1930s ocean voyages. Rhythm references the original aesthetic of the bold, rhythmic composition found in the archive piece, recoloured in grey and ochre. This rug is hand-tufted in India from 100% wool.
