he Department of Interior Architecture is able to offer scholarships based upon portfolio review to students who choose majors in our department. The amount of award varies according to the funds available to the Department, and quality of application. Application must be completed and portfolio submitted by February 1 for entering freshmen. For those students who did not submit portfolios as entering freshman, scholarship opportunity is available upon the completion of the student’s sophomore portfolio review.
he Department awards medals or certificates of merit to students with GPAs of 3.5 or above. An award is also made to the Outstanding Senior in the major.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
he interior design major and the pre-architecture students share a common curriculum for the first two years of study. These foundation courses introduce applicable theory and skills, preparing the students for a more specific design direction: interior design, interior architecture, or architecture.
hose students completing their BFA in Interior Design at Samford University will engage in a curriculum sequence whose content adheres to CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) standards. The program prepares design students to combine aesthetic values with practical needs and realities. Program graduates weigh design decisions with social, cultural, and ecological context in mind. Based on a foundation in fine art, the students utilize a holistic approach that integrates interior design with architecture, stresses the threedimensional use of space, considers the user’s awareness and experience of space, and incorporates the necessary understanding of codes and life-safety issues.
he faculty strives to graduate professionals who use their trained aesthetic sense, technical ability, personal discernment, and communication skills to design spaces that function according to the users’ needs and improve the quality of the users’ lives. The professors work not only to communicate a passion for good design, but also to instill that passion in students.
DEGREE AWARDED A Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Interior Design with a minor in Art. Core requirements include 46 core/general education credits; 22 credits for an Art minor, and 66 IARC credits for a total of 134 credits required for graduation. Accreditation The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredits Samford University’s interior design program.
