Our bespoke, low cost scoping studies can be used to identify potential sites for hydroelectric schemes within an area of land. Over time, we have accumulated extensive expertise by performing numerous scope studies, operating for a range of clients from the Lake District National Park Authority to the lone land owner. Yorkshire Dales National Park The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is keen to see the development of appropriate small-scale hydropower sites in order to meet local needs. Therefore, we were asked to investigate the area and this resulted in 49 potential sites being located. The report concluded that there are many worthwhile opportunities for hydro power in the Dales and several landowners, developers and local communities have expressed their interest it the study.
Lake District National Park The Lake District National Park Authority commissioned Inter Hydro Technology to produce a report summarising potential hydropower sites throughout the national park. 55 sites were identified. The report indicated the basic hydrology of each site, the catchment parameters, the estimated gross head available, the maximum power, the annual energy output and a simple pay back time calculation. Stemming from this initial assessment, pre-feasibility studies were undertaken at ten of the most promising sites. Forest of Bowland, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Most recently, we produced a feasibility study that looked into the generation of small scale hydropower at 37 potential sites put forward by the Forest of Bowland. Using the findings from this study we have been asked to produce a more rigorous assessment for five of the sites.
