Why hydropower? •
With a 600% increase in the number of licenses granted by the Environment Agency since 2008, hydropower schemes as a means of generating energy are becoming increasingly popular. In 2010 there were around 350 licensed hydro schemes operating in England and Wales and this is estimated to increase to 1200 by 2020, so now is the time to get involved.

Since February 2011 the application process has been made more straightforward, making it easier for communities, developers and individuals to capitalise on government incentives.
An Environment Agency study published in 2010 identified and assessed almost 26,000 potential locations for small scale hydropower schemes within England and Wales. There are also many potential locations which could support larger scale hydropower schemes. If you manage or own land, or you are part of a pro-active community, you may have a potential sustainable revenue stream.
