THANK YOU TO ALL OUR 2013 SPONSORS

R

2013 EVENT REPORT WE’RE NOT JUST AN INDUSTRY, WE’RE A COMMUNITY. Thank you for making Interbike the central hub of our bicycling community, a place where manufacturers, retailers, dealers, media and more from all over the globe annually unite to conduct the business of cycling. Thanks to loyal supporters and cycling enthusiasts like you, Interbike proves year after year that we are a community, and so much more than just your average tradeshow. This year, we worked hard to emphasize a community experience that brought us together not only over the business of cycling, but also over group rides to benefit our Veterans, live demonstrations, entertainment, actionpacked races, networking lounges, continuing education and best practices, relationship-building opportunities and, perhaps among the most impactful, we all came together to raise funds and support the part of our community affected by the 2013 Colorado Floods. Our new home at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center afforded us the room to accommodate our ever expanding community, and resulted in the largest Interbike ever staged. Like every growing community, we also tried a number of new features and experiences – the Paddock at Interbike, Interbike by Invitation, the Industry Party, a VIP Program, and new/expanded neighborhoods to reflect the growing subcultures within our industry. As with any new experience, some blew it out of the park the first time around and some need to be adjusted. What we did learn was this – we’ll continue to try new things and deliver what we think will excite and rally our community. The contents of this Event Report will provide specific numbers detailing show outcomes, but overall Interbike 2013 successfully brought together the largest gathering of the bicycling community in North America. Thank you for coming together to show that we’re not just an industry, we’re a community.

In 2013 American Express OPEN presented the Interbike and PeopleForBikes Industry Party featuring George Thorogood & The Destroyers at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. Supported by Cannondale and Purely Custom, this sold out show featured opening act Cromoly and attracted 1,000+ Interbike attendees who celebrated and rocked the night away in the spirit of past Industry parties.

INTERBIKE ATTENDANCE Stricter Qualification Process Garners More Qualified Audience With more stringent qualification and re-qualification processes, we reduced local and non-industry attendance formerly identified as retailer / distributor to ensure the highest quality audience of buyers and distributors during Interbike trade only days. As anticipated, the tough business climate faced by the US bicycle industry during the first half of the year, coupled with our tightened qualification processes resulted in a slight decrease in overall attendance; however, this was easily offset by an increase in overall store attendance and improved quality of attendees. While retail buyer attendance was down 7% from 2012, overall store count increased by 8%, or 350 additional stores.

Addition of Consumer Day Shifts Traffic Patterns

As expected, the addition of a consumer day on the last day of the show created a shift in attendance patterns, with retailers flooding the first and second day of the show in an effort to wrap up their business and depart prior to the arrival of consumers:

“I invited some of my best customers. We had a nice dinner together the night before and breakfast the day of the show and then I escorted them to the show and we met several times during the day. They were thrilled and even helped out as extra buyers for my store. It was a wonderful experience and the good will produced was priceless even among the customers who I invited and couldn’t make it.” - Chris Haunold - Idaho Mountain Touring, Boise, Idaho

“Interbike was a chance to engage with brands large and small, some of which we may otherwise have been unaware of. The contacts we’ve made through the exhibition are invaluable. The show combined with the outdoor demo was one of the most hands on, interactive, get to know the product and the people exhibitions we’ve attended to date. And on a personal note, the Bootleg Canyon riding experience was perhaps the best organized demo experience we’ve had to date – worth attending for the trails alone.”
