16.09.09 Dear Integra website user, Welcome to the second newsletter outlining the activities of Integra: a Europewide live electronic music project led by Birmingham Conservatoire (UK) and funded by the European Commission. Integra has been a significant presence at conferences this summer with appearances at both the New Interfaces for Musical Expression Conference 2009 (NIME) and the International Computer Music Conference 2009 (ICMC). Jamie Bullock and Lamberto Coccioli’s submission Towards a Humane Graphical User Interface for Live Electronic Music was accepted as a poster by NIME, which was held in Pittsburgh from 4 – 6 June. Now in its ninth year, NIME is an international conference that provides the opportunity to explore the interdisciplinary creations of artists and scientists. Jamie Bullock and Henrik Frisk’s paper An Object Oriented Model for the Representation of Temporal Data in the Integra Framework was presented by Henrik on Monday 17 August at ICMC, which was held in Montreal. The paper’s selection was a great boost for Integra as out of 216 submissions, only 41 were accepted for short presentations. Slides and a report will be posted on our website soon. In the software development phase of the project, pace is gathering quickly, with the first coding sprint already completed with great success and a second coding sprint due to take place at the end of September. As well as having finished the final version of the software wireframes (in collaboration with design company lessrain.com), we will soon be in a position to make available an in-progress version of the software for people to download and play with. Watch this space! Finally, Birmingham Conservatoire’s performance of Jonathan Harvey’s Valley of Aosta earlier this year has been hailed as a great success, and as the first performance of the work in 10 years, the event was of the utmost importance from the perspective of repertoire revival and preservation. Thank you for your interest in the project and please keep checking our website for further information.
