Vijayamma warns Naidu of legal action Hyderabad, February 20: Serving a subtle warning to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for making baseless allegations against Sharmila and her husband Brother Anil Kumar, YSRCP honourary p r e s i d e n t Y S Vi j a y a m m a disclosed on Wednesday that the YSR family has been exploring the possibility of filing a defamation suit against Naidu and his gang, Addressing the YSRCP’s extended meeting at Lotus Pond here, Vijayamma said Naidu must know that people are fed up with his continuous criticism of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSR family members.

Listing out the various decisions of the Congress government in the state that imposed unbearable financial burden on the people, she said Naidu, instead of teaching a lesson to the Kiran Kumar Reddy-

led Congress Government by introducing noconfidence motion, has been protecting it with political intentions. “Naidu has no other work except for criticizing the YSR family and Jagan Mohan Reddy. Even three years after the death of YSR, Naidu has not stopped criticizing him. He continued to criticize our party president also. Now, he has started

criticizing Sharmila and her husband Brother Anil after she launched her Padayatra,” Vijayamma said. She said Naidu seems to have not recognized the fact that people are fed up listening to his continuous criticism of YSR family. “Anyhow, we are exploring the possibility of filing defamation case against Naidu and his gang for making baseless allegations against Sharmila and her husband,” she disclosed. There is no substance in the allegations leveled against Sharmila and Anil by Naidu, she said, rejecting the charges lock, stock and barrel.

Implement Muslim quota in local bodies polls: Shabbir Ali Hyderabad, February 20: Former Minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir demanded that the State Government provide reservation to Muslim in the elections for urban local bodies and panchayats under the Backward Classes (E) category. Making representations to Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy and Municipal Administration Minister M Maheedhar Reddy on Wednesday, Shabbir Ali said that elections to local bodies were being held for the first time after Muslims got four per cent reservation under BC-E category. He said after clearing legal hurdles, reservation for

Muslims were regularly being implemented by the Congress

Government since 2007 and the same were implemented during the elections held for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

It may be mentioned that on February 18, the Supreme Court has allowed the State Government to conduct elections to urban local bodies and panchayats as per the existing reservation quotas. In an interim order, a division bench of the court said that the State Government, for the time being, could continue with the total 60.5 per cent reservation which includes 34 per cent reservation for BCs, 18.3 per cent for SCs and 8.25 per cent for STs. The elections were put on hold after the Andhra Pradesh High Court stayed them in June 2011 following a Public Interest

Litigation. The term of the urban local bodies came to an end in September 2010 and that of Panchayati Raj institutions in July 2011. The state has 21,676 gram panchayats, 16,133 block panchayats (Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency) and 1,097 district panchayats (Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency), 108 municipalities and 16 municipal corporations.
