INMS Music Interests Cassie Lihou, Olivia Brown What kind of music do INMS students usually listen to? This is a question that has been recently brought to our attention. It is interesting to know what students are listening to because it shows this generation’s taste in music. Are students still holding on to the oldies or are they leaving that behind and moving on to new music genres like pop and rap? This is what we discovered when we surveyed 78 students at INMS; 51% of students prefer pop while 35% liked rock the best. The top favorite music artist is Eminem with 5% of the students voting as their favorite. We also found that the average amount of time students at INMS listen to music per day is three hours.Which would make sense because 74% of students from INMS listen to music while studying. because we usually have one or more tests a week. We feel that music shows different personalities, for example if you listen to classical then you may be more of a quiet, easy going person. While if you listen to pop you would be more of an upbeat, energetic person. We were surprised to find that so many students like different artists, it really shows the unique personalities and diversity of students who go to our school.
Gravity The movie gravity is an award winning film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. It is a story about astronauts trying to survive disasters in space. While the movie is visually stunning with incomparable graphics of space, the storyline is very predictable and tiresome. While Sandra Bullock gives an excellent performance as a NASA medical engineer, desperately fighting for her life, she ends up alone in space, and must carry the film single handedly for the majority of the time. This becomes quite boring after a while, and because of this, you might start to think of other things besides the storyline, such as the fact that much of the physics are portrayed incorrectly. For example, why doesn't Bullocks hair float in zero gravity? Also why does Clooney float quickly away when the line is severed, when in reality, he would hardly move at all? While the movie is suspenseful at times, such as when Sandra Bullock is about to plummet to earth, and has some amazing special effects of earth and space, I would not recommend wasting your time, or money watching this film.
Found Poem Discoveries The excitement of exploration Secretly sends them into turbulence. From the seabed of the indian ocean. To the surface of the moon. From the dangers of the deep crushing pressures and inky darkness adding to the tensions. Vast unfamiliarity. Taking on risk leaving things behind Urgent attention to thoroughness Unprecedented level of questioning Never to give up hope.
Orangutan The word orangutan means "man of the forest" in the Malay language. Orangutans are classified as large apes, who have long orange hair and flat faces, and live in the tropical rain forests of Indonesia and Malaysia on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. These are the only two places where they live now in the wild, and live to be around 3045 years old, however, many live in captivity all over the world where they can live up to 50 years of age. Orangutans are shy, solitary animals that are active during the day, and live alone in large territories. They are the largest treedwelling animals on Earth, and one of humankind’s closest relatives, sharing nearly 97% of the same DNA. Some of their similar characteristics include their feet & hands; they have four long fingers plus an opposable thumb, and their feet have four long toes plus an opposable big toe. They can grasp things with both their hands and their feet. Orangutans also have senses very similar to ours, including hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. They are extremely intelligent and have been known to use found objects as tools; for example, they use leaves as umbrellas to keep the rain from getting them wet. They also use leaves as cups to help them drink water. Orangutans are a very endangered species, they are dying in large numbers due to their loss of habitat to humans. Also, baby orangutans are often illegally caught and sold around the world as pets.

Olivia personal bio My name is Olivia Brown, but my friends and family call me Liv. I was born on September 22nd, 1999 in Lincoln City, Oregon. I have 3 older siblings, 2 sisters, Daisy and Suzi, and 1 brother, Keith. I am in 8th grade and currently attending INMS. When i was 7 months old, my parents and I traveled to Italy and France for 6 weeks. I learned to crawl in the Louvre, and my first word was “Cio!” (Italian for both “hello” and “goodbye”.) Since i was so young, i don't remember much of it, so i hope to go back someday. I have lived in Toledo, Oregon my entire life. We live in the country, on a small farm where we have horses and raised chickens, goats and sheep. When i was 9 years old, I decided to start my own doggy daycare business. Since then i have had over 300 customers, many of which have become regular clients. Some of my favorite things to do are going to the beach with my friends, and ride my horses with my family. Although I have never really considered myself a journalist, I sometimes enjoy writing stories, keeping a journal and writing travel logs when my family goes on vacation, most recently, we spent 5 weeks in the desert and canyon lands of Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. It is fun to record, and then later reread all the fun, and sometimes humorous things that happened along the way. This year, I have worked hard in journalism and feel like I have improved a lot in many ways. I have found that I enjoy it more than I thought I would and so i look forward to continuing writing in my highschool years!
