Expose youth to various activities designed to hone their decisionmaking and critical-thinking skills, as well as teach them how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity.
WHY As youth reach a critical stage in their lives where they become faced with major decisions, SMART moves involves and prepares them as leaders to help their peers resist using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
MULTIPLE IMPLEMENTATION OPTIONS With SMART Moves, Clubs can use one program to serve youth at various stages of their journeys.
WHO Youth ages 6-15 years
Date SMART presents accessible activities for helping teens between the 13-18 years learn how to achieve mutually supportive relationships free of violence and abuse.
The SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resilience Training) prevention and education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity. SMART Moves uses a team approach that involves Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives.
SMART Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and selfesteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls in three age groups.
