Differing an OpinionBy Shelia PopwellHorrifying Cliches has been my favorite MAD feature for years, and I almost didn't order this little book (only 5-1/2" x 5-1/2") because of the other reviewer's negative opinion of the color ("dark areas" and "greenish wash"). I had never seen color versions of the Cliches, and I found these to be delightful with clean, bright color. My only complaint is that there are far too few pages -- I would love to have a truly Monster-sized book of these gems. This book was printed in 2002 and contains some of my all-time favorites like "Splitting an Infinitive", "Striking a Careless Pose", "Mounting an Offensive", and "Killing off a few Idle Hours." Each cartoon is printed on a separate page, making it larger than the original black-andwhite magazine version, and is on a white background with no borders which highlights the details of the drawings nicely. The two Forewords by Phil Hahn and Paul Coker Jr. are a fun bonus. Since I had such a different opinion of the color, I wonder if the other reviewer might have seen a copy from a flawed print run.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy AJRosBook is great! And the seller was incredibly fast in getting them to me0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Jeepers, it's smaller than a Hallmark card...By kjknowsAlways loved the Horrifying Cliches of the old Mad mags and there are many of my favorites in this little volume but holy cow...this book is anything but a "monster" book. You can practically hold it in the palm of your hand. Unless this is some sort of rare out-of-print tome, paying the price listed here on seems way off base. As it is, I found it for much less eleswhere but still the price is not in line with the presentation. On that front, I'm sympathetic to the review that lamented the coloring issues. The block of darker muted colors applied at times to Coker's creations, does indeed

diminish his great line work and the overall feel of the drawings. While some panels don't suffer as much from the color appilcation as others, unfortunately none of the drawings have the gentle wash of colors and tones that Coker himself would have applied. Fours stars for Coker and Hahn's wonderful work...but price, size and execution from the publisher is a drag. The Mad Monster Book of Horrifying Cliches [Hardcover]
