Рассказывает София Полонская (Дрозд) Мой дедушка Соломон Соломонович Дрозд до начала Великой Отечественной войны жил на Украине, был служащим. Он родился (по неточным данным) в 1873 году. В начале войны дедушка приезжал в Сталинград (ныне Волгоград), где в это время жили мы с мамой. Отец находился на фронте, мама работала на металлургическом заводе Красный Октябрь. Близкий друг дедушки пригласил его к себе в Крым. Несмотря на просьбы мамы, он уехал к другу. В те дни не все знали об истинном положении Красной Армии и мало кто предвидел Катастрофу. В 1942 году Соломон Соломонович Дрозд был расстрелян фашистами во время оккупации Крыма. О его трагической смерти стало известно в 1944 году, когда мой отец и дядя, также воевавший с первых дней, попытались разыскать его, узнать о его судьбе. В 1942 году фашистами были также расстреляны сестры моего деда – Геня Соломоновна (1887 г.р.) в г. Мариуполе, и Рая Соломоновна и Хая Соломоновна - в г. Артемовске.

The story of Sophia Polonskaya (Drozd) My granddad Solomon Solomonovich Drozd served in the Military Forces in Ukraine before the Great Patriotic War. According to imperfect data, he was born in 1873. Before the war he visited us in Stalingrad (today’s Volgograd). At that time we lived there together with our mom. She worked at a metallurgical factory “Krasny Oktyabr.” A close friend of my granddad invited him to the Crimea. Despite my mom’s requests, he went there. At that time only a few people knew the truth about the real condition of the Red Army and few could predict the Catastrophe. Solomon Solomonovich Drozd was shot by the fascists in 1942 during the occupation of the Crimea. We found out about his tragic death only in 1944, when my father and my uncle (who also fought from the first days of the war) tried to find my granddad or find out anything about him. My granddad’s sisters Genya Solomonovna ( date of birth 1887) in Mariupol and Raya Solomonovna and Khaya Solomonovna in Artemovsk were shot as well in 1942.
