William: Can you give us a few quick tips on basic things everyone can do to start getting healthy right now? Christina: Four easy things everyone can start doing today: 1. Drink more water. You should drink a minimum of 1/2 your body weight in water every day. 2. Get good sleep. Your body needs at least seven hours of sleep a night. 3. Move every joint in every direction every day. The body wants to move. We tend to move in the same ways every day. It’s important to move in diverse ways, regularly. 4. Reduce your intake of common dietary causes of inflammation: a. Dairy b. Caffeine c. Alcohol d. Refined sugar e. Soy f. Wheat William: What’s your advice for young women interested in your field? Christina: The patient must be the priority. The number one frustration I hear from clients, they don’t feel heard from their physicians. The therapeutic relationship does just as much, maybe more, than any intervention. When the patient or client feels heard, safe, attended to, cared for, that’s when the healing happens. The most important thing any new therapist can do is learn how to create an effective therapeutic container. If you aren’t sure if holistic or integrative health is right for you, intern somewhere, get some experience, see if it’s right for you, if it speaks to you.
